MoneyGram introduces API to bridge cash and crypto with ease

Yahoo05-05-2025

Payments network MoneyGram has unveiled MoneyGram Ramps, an API aimed to facilitate cash-to-crypto and crypto-to-cash services via a single integration.
This initiative is designed to connect digital wallets, exchanges, and fintech applications with MoneyGram's worldwide cash network, allowing for the incorporation of crypto on/off-ramp functionality on a global scale.
With this API, developers can enable cash deposits in over 30 countries and cash withdrawals in more than 170 countries via MoneyGram's network.
MoneyGram Ramps aims to streamline integration processes, lowering deployment time from months to minutes.
The setup for a sandbox environment, which previously took up to 15 days, can now be completed in approximately five minutes, the company press release stated.
The API offers immediate credentials, sandbox access, and thorough documentation, alongside software development kits (SDKs), all accessible via developer.moneygram.com.
Leveraging the Stellar blockchain and Circle's USDC, alongside MoneyGram's international network, MoneyGram Ramps acts as a conduit between physical and digital currencies.
MoneyGram CEO Anthony Soohoo "With this launch, MoneyGram is quickly becoming the connective tissue between traditional finance and the digital economy. We've taken the complexity out of integration, opening the door to seamless connection with the world's largest cash on/off-ramp for digital wallets."
"Our vision is a world without financial borders. That's why we focus on building simple, powerful tools that remove barriers to the global economy and level the playing field for all."
This development comes on the heels of MoneyGram's collaboration with Mastercard to implement Mastercard Move, which is focused on enhancing the digital movement of money both within the US and across borders.
"MoneyGram introduces API to bridge cash and crypto with ease " was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a GlobalData owned brand.

Startup claims to settle cross-border payments in 5 seconds using stablecoins

Startup claims to settle cross-border payments in 5 seconds using stablecoins originally appeared on TheStreet. Global payments remain slow, expensive, and fragmented—especially for businesses operating across borders. Mesta, a U.S.-based startup, is aiming to address that challenge by combining stablecoins, fiat rails, and an API-first approach to simplify cross-border transactions for fintech platforms and enterprise clients. 'Mesta is a global fiat plus stablecoin payment network,' said Sandeep Pyapali, head of payments during an interview with TheStreet Roundtable. 'We're focused on making international money movement faster and more cost-effective.' Mesta enables platforms to send payments using stablecoins like USDC or USDT, then convert to local fiat currencies for delivery. The result, according to Pyapali, is significantly lower fees and significantly faster settlement times, with some transactions clearing in under five seconds. For many businesses, blockchain remains a complex and opaque space. Mesta's approach attempts to abstract much of the underlying technology, offering a single API for cross-border payments without requiring clients to manage crypto infrastructure directly. 'Most businesses don't want to learn how stablecoins work—they just want to make payments,' Pyapali said. This model resembles what other platforms like Circle have tried to achieve—reducing friction around blockchain adoption by handling the technical and regulatory layers behind the scenes. Mesta currently supports payments in more than 50 currencies and has processed $5 billion in volume as of Q4 2024, across over 200 platform integrations. 'Our customers are primarily fintech platforms,' Pyapali said. 'They're using stablecoins for cross-border payments and tapping into local rails for delivery.' Stablecoins currently have a market capitalization of over $250 billion, but experts believe this could go to trillions by 2030. In the U.S., the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin regulation bill, passed the Senate with support from both parties to cheers from crypto holders. Circle, who issues the stablecoin USDC, recently IPO'd on June 5th at $31 per share. At press time, it was up over 500%, at $199.59, showing clear appetite for stablecoins from traditional markets. Circle Rockets After Stablecoin Bill Clears Senate, Pushes Post-IPO Rally to Over 500%

Circle (NYSE: CRCL) soared 34% on Wednesday, adding another 6% after-hours, as the U.S. Senate passed a landmark bill laying the groundwork for regulated, dollar-backed stablecoins. The move pushed Circle's stock to $199.59 on Wednesday's closing, with a high of $211.87 in after-hours trading. The stock is now up over 540% since its June 5 debut, marking one of the fastest climbs for a crypto stock after opening to the public. The GENIUS Act outlined how U.S. firms can issue and manage fiat-backed stablecoins for payments. It still needs House approval and President Donald Trump's signature, but the Senate vote signals strong bipartisan support for bringing crypto payments into the U.S. regulatory perimeter. 'History is being made,' Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said on X, calling the bill a breakthrough for American competitiveness. Trump, in a Truth Social post, said the bill would make the U.S. the 'undisputed leader in digital assets.' 'The Senate just passed an incredible Bill that is going to make America the UNDISPUTED Leader in Digital Assets — Nobody will do it better, it is pure GENIUS,' Trump's Truth Social post reads. 'Digital Assets are the future, and our Nation is going to own it.' Circle, the issuer of USDC, currently the world's second-largest stablecoin by circulating value, has long pushed for clear rules around crypto dollars. Wednesday's rally reflects investor confidence that Circle will be the chief beneficiary if the U.S. formally embraces stablecoins as digital cash equivalents. Volume surged to over 60 million shares, nearly 2 times the average. CRCL traded between $148 and $200.89 on the day. Its market cap now sits above $48 billion, dwarfing several legacy payments firms. Bernstein analysts, who initiated coverage on CRCL earlier this week, said the bill would 're-shore stablecoin innovation' and draw activity back from offshore issuers to regulated U.S. players. 'The bill clearly defines stablecoins as payment stablecoins,' said analyst Gautam Chhugani, 'making their legal treatment closer to digital cash—and opening the door to mainstream adoption beyond crypto rails.'
