High School Standout: Payton Nutzman, Eastside girls soccer
(WSPA) – This week's high school standout led the way as her team clinched its third consecutive state championship.
Recent Eastside graduate Payton Nutzman scored the game-winning goal in overtime for a second year in a row to lift the Eagles to the program's third straight state title and first in 5A-Division 2.
According to MaxPreps, the Mercer commit led the team again in her senior season with 35 goals on 116 shots and 84 points. She also led the Eagles with a whopping 1.6 goals per game.
Nutzman is a back-to-back Region Player of the Year, a four-time All-Region selection and the reigning 4A State Player of the Year in 2024.

It's good for second all-time on the franchise's list. And why she should have included his name. Saquon Barkley Barkley's inclusion on the Quarter Century team may seem premature. The former second-round pick has struggled to stay healthy for most of his career. Things changed last season, though. Barkley's NFL record for rushing yards in a single season, including playoffs, highlighted one of the most impressive seasons for a running back in history. While Barkley's numbers don't jump out, they are more impressive than those of Christian McCaffrey and Priest Holmes, at least. This is a big reason why Barkley was snubbed by this process. All five starters on the unit are signed through the 2027 season. Advertisement A big reason for Philadelphia's recent success in the trenches has been its two stalwart tackles, Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson. Since both were named starters, Philadelphia's line has reached new heights as a collective unit. They have blocked for a 2,000-yard runner, an MVP finalist, and have won a Super Bowl. Pro Football Focus is just the latest publication to speak out in favor of Philadelphia's tackle tandem. In their weekly series ranking each position group, the analytics site ranked Mailata and Johnson as the best offensive tackle duo in the league. "Bookending the best offensive line in football, Mailata and Johnson are the best offensive tackle duo in the NFL and, arguably, the best players at their respective positions," Zoltán Buday said. "Mailata's 95.2 PFF overall grade led all offensive tackles in 2024, while Johnson's 88.9 figure ranked second among right tackles. Advertisement "Johnson's 88.7 PFF pass-blocking grade was the highest at the position. Johnson's 2.2 percent pressure rate allowed ranked second among all tackles and led all right tackles, while Mailata's 3.7 percent clip ranked eighth among all offensive tackles." Philadelphia has had a strong history of excellent tackle play. Mailata and Johnson are just the latest duo to excel. Johnson, the former fourth-overall pick out of Oklahoma, is a five-time All-Pro and considered maybe the best right tackle in modern history. Mailata, meanwhile, was a seventh-round draft steal who has grown from a rugby star to an NFL success story. Few teams in the league have two quality tackles on their roster. Even fewer can claim both of their tandem as Pro Bowl talents. The Eagles are the only team that can call both of its tackles the best at their respective positions. Advertisement During the seven-game losing streak, the reliable and likely All-Star shortstop went 3-for-26, including entering play Saturday in an 0-for-18 slump. That skid was gone by Saturday's third inning, when Lindor jumped on what would be the first of three consecutive Mets home runs. After an 11-4 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park was secured, that home run meant the Mets have won the past 28 games in which Lindor has homered, just one shy of the all-time MLB record established by Carl Furillo from 1951-53. And so the Mets won and Lindor played well, brushing aside concerns about his broken pinkie toe and lugging the team on his back once more. Following their leader, Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto then added blasts of their own to become the first Mets to go back-to-back-to-back since Nimmo, Lindor and Jeff McNeil did it in 2022. Lindor did not play like an athlete who broke his right pinkie toe just two and a half weeks ago and missed only one game as a result. There has been wonder about whether the Mets would be better off giving their everyday shortstop a day or two to allow that toe to heal. As he continues to play an excellent shortstop and his bat once again looks strong, Lindor reminded why he is so difficult to pluck out of the lineup.
