Vacheron Constantin product director Sandrine Donguy on blending heritage with innovation in luxury watch design, as the maison celebrates its 270th anniversary

This dialogue between tradition and innovation is a constant at Vacheron Constantin, which this year celebrates its 270th anniversary.
Known for its technical prowess, rare complications and unique movements, Vacheron Constantin boasts a loyal following among connoisseurs. That doesn't mean, however, that its fans are just hardcore collectors and experts. this year's Watches and Wonders fair in Geneva, the house broke ground with the world's most complicated wristwatch. The double-sided Les Cabinotiers Solaria Ultra Grande Complication La Première has a whopping 1,521 components, 41 complications and 13 patent applications.

From marketing to product design, savoir faire and storytelling, Donguy's role encompasses every single aspect of the creation of a Vacheron Constantin timepiece.
On a recent trip to Hong Kong for the opening of an exhibition titled 'The Quest: 270 Years of Seeking Excellence', Donguy sat down for a chat to talk about watches and more.

How would you describe your role at Vacheron Constantin?
I would say my role is to [support] the vision of the maison in terms of who we are, our heritage – because if you want to express yourself, you should know yourself best. It's about having ongoing conversations about the archives and when it makes sense to continue to push boundaries. And on the opposite side, innovation – but always in the [realm] of who we are in terms of mechanism, astronomy, function, striking watches, tourbillon, chronograph and also craftsmanship. We can twist all these elements to give a certain life, but my role is to start from who we are, and to push and think from another angle.

Maido in Peru tops World's 50 Best Restaurants list, Hong Kong's Wing, The Chairman place

I think that we should be an example for the world of what can be done and how we can bring things together with the power of food.' Photo: World's 50 Best Restaurants Coming in second once again was respected Basque restaurant Asador Etxebarri in Spain, which in 2024 was beaten to the top spot by Disfrutar in Barcelona Two Hong Kong restaurants – Wing (11th) and The Chairman (19th) – fared well, moving up a number of spots from their previous rankings. Ikoyi in London, helmed by Hong Kong-born chef Jeremy Chan, received the highest climber award, leaping from 42nd to 15th.

F1: The Movie review – Brad Pitt in fun but clichéd motor-racing drama
3/5 stars Watching F1: The Movie is like being hurled back into 1980s Hollywood, for better and for worse. The film, about a veteran driver and a rookie in a failing F1 team, sees producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Days of Thunder) and director Joseph Kosinski reunited after Top Gun: Maverick , starring Tom Cruise. But instead of Cruise, this new film stars Brad Pitt. Play Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who disappeared from the circuit following a crash at the 1993 Spanish Grand Prix. In the years since, he has scraped by as a New York cabby, developed a gambling habit and had numerous failed marriages. He gets another shot at the big time when his former teammate Ruben (Javier Bardem) invites him to drive for his failing F1 team, APX GP. Sonny, it turns out, has retained his skill and proves to be a fantastic driver who plays by his own rules.
