Hold re-counselling for Non Service Post Graduates, demands resident doctors' association
Stating that the recently concluded counselling for Non Service Post Graduates (NSPG) was held in an 'arbitrary' and 'non-transparent' manner, the Tamil Nadu Resident Doctors Association (TNRDA) has sought the Chief Minister's intervention to conduct a transparent, equitable, and centralised single-window counselling for NSPGs across all three directorates.
Until such a process is implemented, the association has demanded that the current counselling outcomes be withheld.
In a representation to the CM, the association drew his attention to a number of concerns over the recently concluded counselling for NSPGs. Instead of conducting a centralised, transparent single-window counselling for NSPGs, enabling them to opt for vacancies across the directorates of Medical Education (DME), Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS), Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and Greater Chennai Corporation, the health authorities deviated from the established practice.
The students were arbitrarily segregated into groups, and a restricted, non-transparent counseling process was initiated, denying the students access to full vacancy details and the freedom to exercise their choice, the association said.
The DME/DMS conducted three separate counselling sessions without publishing a consolidated list of vacancies, creating confusion and inequity among NSPG candidates. The association alleged that the government vacancies were revealed only minutes before the counselling began, leaving candidates with little to no time for deliberation and certain hospitals under the DMS were not shown as available in the official vacancy list but were subsequently allotted to select candidates causing widespread confusion and allegations of bias.
There are approximately 1,100 NSPGs. Only a limited number of them were called to each counselling round meant for a particular directorate; many eligible candidates were not issued call letters and denied participation, the association said.
The association noted that candidates trained in specialised fields such as general surgery and orthopaedics were denied placements in posts matching their training, which could lead to skill degradation and loss of clinical experience. The purpose of the two-year bond to benefit both public health and doctor specialisation was defeated by arbitrary postings and non-transparent procedures, it added.
TNRDA pointed out that this deviation from standard counselling processes was not backed by any new government order or official policy. The association sought the CM's intervention to conduct re-counselling.

Kozhikode: A day after the closely-watched and politically-significant Nilambur bypoll, UDF and LDF camps pored over internal booth-level estimates collected from the field and concluded that the outcome would be a favourable one. Early projections from both camps estimated his vote share at 10,000 votes, but LDF sources now believe Anvar could secure well beyond that number, mainly by drawing support from UDF voters. The BJP is expected to get around 7,000 votes, while SDPI is likely to garner around 2,500 votes. For LDF and UDF, the stakes are high. Winning this bypoll will boost morale and set the tone for the upcoming local body elections and the 2026 assembly polls. Echoing UDF's estimates, candidate Aryadan Shoukath said he would win the polls with an 'A Plus grade' and secure leads in all panchayats as well as Nilambur municipality. Govt plans to restore heritage houses, 122 sites on list so far
Panaji: State govt intends to restore private, dilapidated houses built during the Portuguese era in a revenue share model under the Goa Heritage Policy. Archives and archaeology minister Subhash Phal Dessai on Friday said that owners will be offered interest-free loans and encouraged to promote tourism at these sites while retaining ownership of their properties. So far, govt has identified 122 heritage houses across the state, including non-Portuguese properties. 'Many houses are on the verge of collapse but as govt, we have no right to touch such houses. We have found this way of helping protect, conserve, and restore these houses and incentivising them,' he said. 'One of the objectives of the Goa heritage policy is to integrate heritage into planning, tourism, education, and climate resilience. Govt will not stake its ownership on any of the structures. We will only invite their participation in a revenue sharing model. ' T he minister said that efforts will be made to preserve all the Portuguese-era artefacts, and history trails will be designed for students to explore. A survey will be conducted to identify all the undocumented antiquities in Goa, and a detailed paper will be written on these antiquities. 'Protection of memorials of the freedom struggle will also be taken under the scheme. The Goa State Memorial Maintenance Authority will be established under this. There will also be scope to preserve food items such as feni and chilli powder, among others under this scheme,' he said. The policy includes a tentative list of 222 heritage sites, including 122 heritage houses, 46 folk forms, and 61 traditional occupations, besides the 57 protected sites Jalready under the archaeology department. 'The Goa heritage policy will be rolled out in a phased manner. The policy will stand for five years, and over time it will be analysed and reviewed to be modified in the future,' the minister said.
