Carjacking outside upscale Delhi restaurant: 3 men steal Tata Harrier, kidnap driver

Indian Express5 days ago

What began as a normal wait for his employer outside a restaurant in an upscale Southwest Delhi locality spiraled into a nightmare for a driver as three armed assailants forcibly entered the car and sped off — with him still inside.
Police said the incident took place in the early hours of Sunday.
The driver, Sagar, who goes by one name, was waiting outside a restaurant in the Qutub Institutional Area. His employer and his wife were attending a party and he was sitting in his employer's luxury SUV — a Tata Harrier.
Around 5 am, three men approached the vehicle.
Before Sagar could realise what their intentions were, police said, two men forcibly entered the car through the back door while the third brandished a pistol at Sagar and ordered him to move over.
Sagar further recounted to the police that he was assaulted and confined in the car as the assailants made their escape. After an hour of driving around, the carjackers would drop off Sagar on Asola Road before fleeing with his phone, money, and his employer's vehicle.
Sagar made his way to the Kishangarh police station, on foot, before filing a complaint.
Police then lodged an FIR under sections 311 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 309(6) (robbery), 140(2) (kidnapping or abduction), and 3(5) (common intent) of the BNS, along with sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
Police conducted technical surveillance, tracking the location of the SUV and tracing its movement.
The men were soon traced and nabbed. Police said the trio — Yogesh (34), Ashok Kumar (40), and Banty (25) — are habitual offenders with prior involvement in multiple cases of robbery, snatching, and burglary, said police.
All three were in the car when they were nabbed.
The police recovered the looted Tata Harrier, two stolen mobile phones, the vehicle key, and a country-made pistol with a live cartridge used in the offence.

Andhra Pradesh horror: Dalit girl 'gangraped' for 2 years; 13 arrested

Representative image NEW DELHI: Thirteen people have been arrested in Edgurallapalli, Andhra Pradesh, in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 15-year-old Dalit girl that continued for two years, leading to her pregnancy. The case came to light on June 9 after the victim filed a complaint, with police registering charges under POCSO Act , SC/ST Atrocities Act, and BNS. Six suspects were arrested on June 9, including Achampalli Vardhan, Talari Murali, Badagorla Nandavardhan Raj, Arencheru Nagaraju, Boya Sanjeev, and Budida Rajanna, aged between 21 and 51 years. Seven more arrests followed on June 10, while the main accused remains at large. "In this heinous case, the accused were identified, traced, and arrested with coordination by special teams under Dharmavaram subdivision," said Sri Satya Sai district Superintendent of Police V Ratna at a press conference. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators allegedly blackmailed the victim using inappropriate images and videos. The girl, now eight months pregnant, is receiving treatment at a government hospital in Ananthapur district, with doctors ruling out abortion due to the advanced pregnancy stage. Police are working with the Child Welfare Committee to relocate the girl post-delivery. They have requested permission for DNA testing of the unborn child for legal proceedings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo "Despite being pregnant for eight months, no local alerted the officials. We believe caste stigma and fear led to the community's silence over the repeated abuse," said a police official. The victim, a government school student, comes from a vulnerable background with her mother working as a laborer and father deceased. Police suspect this situation made them susceptible to community pressure and silence. Some villagers allegedly pressured the girl to marry one of the accused to close the case. Police are investigating possible lapses by school, health, and child protection officials. Several arrested individuals have criminal records. Special teams have been formed to apprehend those still absconding. The arrested accused are in judicial custody, and the minor has been placed under the Juvenile Justice Board. The district administration has committed to ensuring the victim's safety, medical care, legal support, and psychological assistance during recovery. They are investigating the case and examining potential institutional oversights. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)

Cow's udder cut following a family dispute at Sulivara village in South Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A rivalry between two families resulted in the death of a cow after a man allegedly cut its udder at Sulivara village in South Bengaluru district (Ramanagara). The jurisdictional Tavarekere police said that based on a complaint by Mari Basavayya, owner of the cow, a case has been registered against the accused Gurusiddappa under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other Sections of BNS. Gurusiddappa is suspected of cutting the udder of the cow. Passersby, who noticed the bleeding cow, alerted its owner and a veterinarian. Despite treatment, the cow died on Friday afternoon. Further action will be taken based on the autopsy report, the police said. The police said there are claims that a fight between two cows might have caused the injury. The exact reason for the death will be known after receiving the autopsy report. According to the complaint, Gurusiddappa allegedly cut the cow's udder after it entered his field. In January, a man from Bihar allegedly injured the udders of three cows in Vinayaka Nagar in Cottonpet police limits in the city.
