JoJo Siwa has confirmed her romantic relationship with reality star Chris Hughes, saying the connection that began on the U.K.'s Celebrity Big Brother has turned into something more than friendship.
Siwa called their bond "a beautiful development" in an interview with The Guardian published on Monday. She added, "I'm absolutely head over heels for him and he's the same way."
The pair met during filming and quickly grew close, with Hughes defending Siwa when fellow contestant Mickey Rourke made comments about her sexuality. Siwa said the emotional intensity of the show fast-tracked their relationship.
She added that she and Hughes had clarified with each other, "No, this is a very genuine connection—we're not faking a thing." After some hesitation, she confirmed to The Guardian, "It's not platonic any more."

Their closeness had sparked speculation, especially as Siwa was in a relationship at the time with Australian actor Kath Ebbs. She said in the interview that she and Ebbs had since broken up and described the time after the show as one of self-discovery.
"People can see our chemistry, and they got to see it develop," Siwa said of her relationship with Hughes, adding, "I think everyone's just curious, and I can't blame them."
The 22-year-old former child star also opened up about her evolving sexual identity. While she initially came out as gay and later identified as a lesbian, she now uses the term queer.
"There's a lot of different sexual identities. I think there's nothing more beautiful than somebody discovering themselves," she said.

Siwa, who rose to fame on Dance Moms and built a business empire in her teens, described the experience of living publicly as complex.
"I do live this very, very big public life that has so many eyeballs on it, and it can get really hard to navigate," she said. "But I'm also living a human life. You can't help who you love."
Despite the media attention and speculation, Siwa said she was focused on her own happiness. "I was massaging my cheeks," she said, laughing. "I've never been in pain from smiling so much."
She discussed waking up next to Hughes, lying in bed and sharing music—including hearing him sing her new single "Bulletproof" in the morning. "It's the first time in my life that it feels like I'm switched off," she said.
Before his connection with Siwa, Hughes was in a relationship with former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson. The couple dated for over a year, drawing significant media attention, before splitting in 2020.

The Dance Moms alum, 22, caught up with TMZ about her relationship with Chris Hughes this week, describing their connection as "lovely" and "beautiful." "It kind of radiates," Siwa told the outlet while out and about in West Hollywood. "He's my favorite person and I'm very grateful and very happy." Elsewhere while speaking to TMZ, Siwa addressed critiques of the pair's relationship, adding that "love is a beautiful rainbow" and that people need to "remember that love is love." "But I think that just, again, I get to be an example of love is love," she said. "You can be happy." Siwa has been open about future wedding plans in the past, telling Bustle in 2023 that The Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron — who starred alongside on Special Forces and have since become good friends — would "probably [be] the best man at my wedding." As for Siwa and Hughes, the pair met during Celebrity Big Brother UK's 24th season in April, sparking romance rumors and maintaining in interviews at the time that they were just friends. Around the time, they both also denied her breakup from her ex Kath Ebbs was a result of their connection. Siwa later confirmed that their relationship was no longer platonic in an interview with The Guardian on June 2. 'It's not platonic anymore, and it's been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I'm absolutely head over heels for him and he's the same way,' Siwa told the outlet. During a June 5 appearance on Gyles Brandreth's podcast Rosebud, Siwa added that her relationship with Hughes has been a "beautiful journey," with "serendipity" being their favorite word. "If you read the definition of it, it's essentially finding love when you're least looking for it," she said. "I don't know how the universe did align for Chris to come in my life." Siwa, who finished third in Celebrity Big Brother, said she and Hughes, who finished sixth, "bonded right away" on the show — although she "wasn't sure what was gonna happen" when leaving the "bubble of Big Brother." After leaving the show, she "started to feel something" for Hughes "that I never intended to, but I couldn't not feel," Siwa said on Rosebud. "And I'm a very lucky girl because he was feeling the same thing," she added. Read the original article on People

Danny Boyle: Slumdog Millionaire was cultural appropriation
Danny Boyle has said his hit film Slumdog Millionaire was cultural appropriation. The British director, who also made the films Trainspotting and 127 Hours, said that he was proud of Slumdog Millionaire, but that 'you wouldn't even contemplate doing something like that today'. The 2008 Oscar-winning movie, which Boyle directed, follows the story of a boy from the slums of Mumbai who is one question away from winning the Hindi version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, before being arrested on suspicion of cheating. It was shot in Mumbai, partly in Hindi, and used a local crew, but the award-winning director said he couldn't make it today. He would instead be 'looking for a young Indian filmmaker' to direct the picture, because his directing of the film was 'cultural appropriation'. He told The Guardian on his press tour for the horror film 28 Years Later: 'That kind of cultural appropriation might be sanctioned at certain times, but at other times it cannot be. It wouldn't even get financed. 'We wouldn't be able to make that now. And that's how it should be. It's time to reflect on all that. We have to look at the cultural baggage we carry and the mark that we've left on the world.' He said it was a 'flawed method' because it was filmed by 'outsiders'. 'At the time it felt radical. We made the decision that only a handful of us would go to Mumbai. 'We'd work with a big Indian crew and try to make a film within the culture. But you're still an outsider. It's still a flawed method. Even if I was involved, I'd be looking for a young Indian filmmaker to shoot it.' The film premiered at the 2008 Telluride Film Festival and won eight Oscars at the 2009 Academy Awards, including those for best picture and best director, as well as several BAFTA awards and Golden Globes. It was also a box office hit, making $378 million worldwide on a reported $15 million budget. Speaking about his directorial choices in the interview, Boyle explained: 'I value the popular audience. I believe in popular entertainment. 'I want to push the boat out, but take the popular audience with me.' Elsewhere, he discussed his direction of Isles of Wonder, the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics that featured Daniel Craig as James Bond and the late Queen Elizabeth II. The film, which was a celebration of British culture, also featured the National Health Service, Shakespeare, the Sex Pistols and Windrush migrants. However, Boyle said his 'biggest regret' was not featuring the BBC in it more, saying if he were to do it again he would 'big up' the 'precious' national broadcaster. He said: 'My biggest regret was that we didn't feature the BBC more. I was stopped from doing it because it was the host broadcaster. 'Every other objection, I told them to go f--- themselves. But that one I accepted and I regret that now, especially given the way that technology is moving. 'The idea that we have a broadcaster that is part of our national identity, but is also trusted around the world and that can't be bought, can't be subsumed into Meta or whatever, feels really precious. 'So yeah, if I was doing it again I'd big up the BBC big time. Everything else I'd do exactly the same.' Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. Additionally, in February 2025, in the wake of Lamar's Grammy Awards success, his 2024 single 'Not Like Us' re-entered the Australian ARIA charts and gave the rapper his first No. 1 single in the country.
