2026 high-three-star Pittsburgh LB Colsen Gatten commits to Duke
Duke is making its presence felt in Pittsburgh once again, as the Blue Devils received a verbal commitment from 2026 high-three-star Central Catholic High School linebacker Colsen Gatten on Wednesday.
Gatten intends to play his college football under head coach Manny Diaz, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jonathan Patke and the rest of the staff at Duke.

Diaz began building a relationship with Gatten when he was still the defensive coordinator at Penn State, and the Nittany Lions offered the linebacker back in June of 2023. Diaz was hired by Duke in December of 2023, and he offered Gatten a scholarship from the Blue Devils shortly after that in January of 2024.
This is the second consecutive cycle in which the Blue Devils have landed a pledge from a Pittsburgh Central Catholic linebacker, as Duke signed four-star prospect Bradley Gompers in the 2025 class.
The Blue Devils signed four total prospects out of Pennsylvania in the 2025 cycle.
Gatten has visited Durham to check out Duke's campus on multiple occasions, including in late January.

He ranks as the No. 18 prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 50 linebacker in the 2026 cycle.
As a junior in 2024, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Gatten helped lead the Vikings to a 12-3 overall record. Central Catholic earned a Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) 6A championship and a runner-up finish in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 6A state championship game.
In addition to Duke and Penn State, Colsen Gatten has received scholarship offers from Boston College, California, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, SMU, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Wisconsin and others.

He took an official visit to Pitt during the weekend of June 6 through June 8, and previously had an official visit planned to Indiana. His official visit date to Duke is not yet known.
Gatten is a Penn State legacy recruit, as his father, Aaron Gatten, played for the Nittany Lions in the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, Colsen will look to blaze his own trail at Duke.
With Colsen Gatten now in the fold, Duke's 2026 class grows to seven total commitments.

ESPN analyst Jay Bilas reveals what he likes best about projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg
Cooper Flagg is on the verge of becoming the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and the National College Player of the Year recently earned praise from ESPN analyst Jay Bilas. Flagg led Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be named a consensus first-team All-American. The 6-foot-8 forward established himself as the overwhelming favorite to be the No. 1 pick because of his size, athleticism and ability to affect games on both ends of the court. Bilas, speaking on the "Awful Announcing" podcast with Brandon Contes, named his favorite trait about Flagg. The one thing that stands out about Cooper Flagg, to me, above all others, and we can talk about the attributes -- physically, athletically, how he shoots it, how he handles it, how he passes it and how he defends -- but the thing I like about him best is he is not one who is interested in numbers. What he does is he makes the right play on that play and then he winds up stacking the right play over and over again and then by the end of the game, he has compiled really impressive numbers. Flagg entered the season with tremendous expectations as the consensus top recruit in the class of 2024. He was highly touted as the likely top pick in the draft and lived up to the hype after becoming the face of the sport this past season. The 18-year-old led the Blue Devils in total points (709), rebounds (277), assists (156) and blocks per game. He is highly regarded for his ability to process plays in real-time and his decision-making with the ball in his hands, while also constantly adding new skills to his arsenal. After trading away cornerstone Luka Dončić, the Dallas Mavericks hope Flagg can step in and be their long-term solution. Should Flagg indeed hear his name called first on Wednesday, the ACC Freshman of the Year will become the sixth Blue Devil to be selected as the top pick. "I think he is the best freshman Duke has ever had, and that is saying something given the freshmen that Duke has had over the last 30-40 years, maybe even beyond that," Bilas said. "He is barely 18 years old right now, and the polish and maturity he shows... People talk about will Dallas trade the pick, I just can't imagine a scenario where you trade that because he is the future for them."

Five-star safety Joey O'Brien commits to Notre Dame football, joining Maryland prep CB Khary Adams
SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football's 2026 recruiting class continues to fly high in the national rankings. Friday evening, June 20, the latest nonbinding commitment came from five-star safety Joey O'Brien of La Salle College High School in suburban Philadelphia. Rated 30th overall and fourth nationally among safeties, per 247 Sports Composite, O'Brien had the Irish in his top four along with Penn State, Oregon and Clemson. "I'd trust Coach Marcus Freeman with my life," O'Brien said at his announcement, which was carried live on YouTube. "He's the type of dude I want to go to battle for." The 6-foot-3, 185-pound O'Brien, who also stars at wide receiver, took his official visit to Notre Dame last weekend. Flanked by his parents and sisters, O'Brien said he gave the Irish his commitment on Wednesday night, June 18. "It was really a hard choice for me, but that last visit really pushed everything over the top for them," O'Brien said. "I like to win. That's what I'm going to do. I'm going to be fighting for a spot as soon as I get there." Earlier Friday, the Irish secured a commitment from four-star cornerback Khary Adams of Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Md. Rated No. 36 overall, Adams chose the Irish over offers from fellow finalists Michigan, Oregon and Penn State. Adams is taking his official visit this weekend. On Wednesday June 18, Notre Dame added a commitment from O'Brien's prep teammate, Wyndmoor, Pa., offensive tackle Grayson McKeough (6-foot-7, 275 pounds). McKeough is a three-star prospect with significant upside. With first-year general manager Mike Martin leading the recruiting operation, the Irish moved past Texas A&M on Friday and trail only USC in the latest national rankings for the 2026 cycle. Martin's predecessor, Chad Bowden, jumped to the Trojans in January. At 6-foot-3 and 182 pounds, Adams has reportedly flashed 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash and has been clocked at 10.7 seconds in the 100 meters. Only O'Brien and edge rusher Rodney Dunham (No. 15 overall) of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., rank higher in the current Irish 2026 signing class. In late April, Notre Dame secured a commitment from four-star safety Ayden Pouncey (No. 139 overall) of Winter Park, Fla. Three-star cornerback Chaston Smith gave his commitment last Dec. 1, and the recent additions have only added to the pipeline of talent flowing into defensive pass-game coordinator Mike Mickens' vaunted secondary. Commitments won't become official until the early signing period opens Dec. 3-5.

Penn State Makes Drew Allar Announcement on Friday
Penn State Makes Drew Allar Announcement on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Penn State Nittany Lions capped off their 2024 campaign with a stellar season, finishing second in the Big Ten behind the Oregon Ducks and earning a spot in the College Football Playoff. Advertisement After notching wins over SMU and Boise State, the Nittany Lions reached the semifinals, where they suffered a heartbreaking 27–24 loss to Notre Dame—who ultimately fell to Ohio State in the national championship. Shortly into the offseason, Penn State received a major boost when it was announced that both 1,000-yard rushers, Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton, would return—alongside star quarterback Drew Allar. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Allar currently holds the fifth-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Now entering his fourth season in State College, Allar received another honor on Friday as Penn State announced he's been named a Phil Steele Preseason All-American—joining several of his teammates on the prestigious list. Over his three seasons with the Nittany Lions, Drew Allar has completed 62.9% of his passes for 6,302 yards, 53 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions, while maintaining a 144.0 passer rating. Advertisement One of the biggest flaws in Penn State's offense last season was a lack of consistent production from the wide receiver position. Much of their offensive output came from their dynamic running back duo and standout tight end Tyler Warren, who was later selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Prather-Imagn To address that need, head coach James Franklin turned to the transfer portal and added key reinforcements at wide receiver: Kyron Hudson from USC, Devonte Ross from Troy, and Trebor Pena from Syracuse—who played in one of the most explosive offenses in college football last season. Franklin emphasized the need for Allar to 'take another step' this season—something the quarterback has managed to do each year of his collegiate career. Advertisement The thing that's exciting about Drew, he may be 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, but he has a lot of growth and development," Franklin said. "He's a young kid. He has taken significant steps every single year."
