In a continued crackdown following the Pahalgam terror attack , security forces and Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) authorities demolished the house of another suspect linked to the assault that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead and several injured.According to officials, the house in Chotipora village in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir was allegedly linked to a terrorist believed to be involved in the April 22 attack.In a separate action, authorities also demolished the house of another suspect identified as Zakir Ahmad Ganie , at Mutalhama village in Kulgam district. Ganie is believed to have played a role in the Pahalgam terror attack, which has sparked nationwide outrage.Officials said Gaine had been active in terror activities since 2023.Earlier on Friday, the house of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Adil Thokar, also known as Adil Guree , was demolished. Adil Guree, a resident of Guree village in Bijbehara block of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, is believed to have been involved in the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national, mostly tourists. He has been declared the most wanted, and the Anantnag Police have offered a reward of Rs 20 lakh for any specific information leading to his arrest. Two Pakistnationals were also declared most wanted in the case.Adil had illegally travelled to Pakistan in 2018, where he reportedly received terror training before returning to Jammu and Kashmir last year.The family of one of the terrorists allegedly involved in the Pahalgam attack, whose house was demolished on Friday morning, has called him a "Mujahideen".The houses of two Lashkar-e-Taliba terrorists believed to be involved in the Pahalgam terror attack were demolished earlier. One house of LeT terrorist in Tral, Pulwama and the other of a terrorist, Adil Guree, in Anantnag were demolished.Speaking with ANI, the sister of the terrorist whose house was demolished in Tral, said, "My one brother is in jail, the other brother is a 'Mujahideen', and I also have two sisters. Yesterday, when I came here from my in-laws' place, I did not find my parents and siblings at their home. Police had taken them all away."The sister said the family is innocent and doesn't know anything about their brother's involvement.Moreover, two terrorist associates were arrested by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's (J-K) Kulgam district, the police sources said on Saturday. According to officials, the duo were arrested from Thokerpora in Qaimoh area of the district.On Friday, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, for the first time following the Pahalgam terror attack, reached Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar and reviewed the security situation of the Union Territory.This comes amid uproar over terrorists attacking tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen while leaving several others injured.The Indian Army is on a high alert, launching several search operations to neutralise the terrorists following the attack in Pahalgam. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with widespread protests erupting across the country, demanding stricter action against Pakistan over the Pahalgam attack.

Over 5,000 bike taxi riders across Karnataka demand a ban lift
BENGALURU: Over 5,000 bike taxi riders from across Karnataka rallied at Vidhana Soudha on Saturday, urging the State Government to lift the ban and introduce a proper regulatory policy. Thousands of riders from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, and Kanakapura rode to Vidhana Soudha, asking the government to bring in a policy that allows them to get back to work while addressing safety and regulation concerns. The ban has hit over six lakh bike taxi riders hard, leaving many with no way to earn a living, they said. 'Families that once depended on daily rides for income are now struggling to put food on the table or pay school fees. Many riders say they feel hopeless, with no clear path forward. At the same time, commuters who relied on bike taxis for affordable and quick travel are also facing difficulties,' read a press release. 'Before the ban, I could earn enough to keep my family going. Now, there is no money coming in, and every day feels like a battle just to survive. We are skipping meals some days because we can't afford groceries anymore, there is no money for my kid's school fees either. How are we supposed to live like this?'said Ramesh, a bike taxi rider from Tumakuru. 'This isn't just about us making money,' said Priya, a rider from Mandya. 'It's about keeping our families alive. We need the government to listen, before it's too late,' she added. The riders also pointed out that 19 other Indian states already have policies for bike taxis, and they questioned why Karnataka lags behind. Many protestors detained The Vidhana Soudha police have detained a group of bike taxi riders for protesting outside the Vidhana Soudha. The police said that after receiving an alert from the Vidhana Soudha security, the agitators were detained for violating guidelines and attempting to stage a protest in front of the Vidhana Soudha without prior permission.

BWSSB must expedite new drainage work, says zonal commissioner
BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) East Zone Commissioner Snehal R directed the officials of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to undertake immediate construction of a new drainage system on 12th Main Road and Cross Road in HAL 2nd Stage. Residents raised concerns regarding the existing drainage system, which was built nearly 50 years ago and is now in a dilapidated condition. Due to its frequent blockages, wastewater is overflowing onto the roads. The Commissioner warned the officials that a penalty of Rs 1 lakh would be imposed in case of non-compliance against concerned officials. Responding to complaints from the OMBR Layout regarding improper solid waste management and unauthorised constructions, the Commissioner directed the concerned officials to clean the accumulated waste along the roadside and initiate action to remove unauthorised buildings. With regard to a complaint on an unauthorised borewell dug in the middle of the road in HRBR 1st block and the construction of an illegal ramp by Sairam Apartments Snehal instructed officials to seal the borewell and remove the ramp immediately. The Commissioner also directed officials to ensure better upkeep of Coles Park. A total of 22 grievances were received during the public interaction programme in the East Zone today. She asked to solve all the issues within the stipulated time.

38 kids of hooch victims get pending state allowance after TNIE report
KALLAKURICHI: The 38 children who had lost one or both their parents in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy last year, and had not received the monthly allowance announced by the Tamil Nadu government for the past few months, were credited with the pending amount within three hours after TNIE brought the issue to the notice of the government. When TNIE visited Karunapuram, which accounted for 38 of the 69 people who died in the hooch tragedy this week last year, it learnt that many of the affected children had not received the monthly allowance from the state. According to the government, four children had lost both their parents while 34 lost one of their parents. The state government had announced a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 each for the four children, and Rs 4,000 each for the 34 others. The allowances will be credited until the children turn 18, the government had said. TNIE learnt that while the four orphaned children had not received their monthly allowance for the past four months since March 2025, the remaining 34 had not received the money for the past nine months since October 2024. The four orphaned children included a girl and two boys, aged between 14 and 17, from the same family, who lost their parents R Suresh (41) and S Vadivukkarasi (39) in the tragedy. Vadivukkarasi had accidentally consumed a small quantity of the methanol-laced liquor that Suresh had left in a cup.
