Man sentenced for 'rape' with minor wife acquitted
Bhopal: A division bench of the MP High Court acquitted a person sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a POCSO court on charges of 'raping' his wife when she was a minor. Holding marriage with a minor as illegal and a physical relationship with the girl as rape, the trial court sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Hearing his appeal, the division bench of the MP High Court, however, held that the girl was an adult and set aside the trial court order. The petition filed by the accused, belonging to Khandwa town of MP, said that he had a relationship with the girl in question and they eloped on May 18, 2020. They got married in a temple. The girl's father lodged a report about his missing daughter with the police. When the police recovered the girl, she was pregnant. During the trial against him in the POCSO court, the girl told the court that she was 20 years of age. She further said that her father demanded Rs 5 lakh from her husband to drop the complaint against him, and when he couldn't meet the demand, he lodged a police complaint against him. She further said in the court that she studied up to class V at a school and her age was ascertained from school records. The bench of Justice Vivek Agarwal and Justice Dev Narayan Mishra, after hearing arguments from both sides, said that the father of the girl stated in court that he was 59 years of age and he got married at the age of 22 years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo His elder sister was born 4 years after the marriage, and the girl in question was born 8 years after the marriage. There is no documentary proof to this effect, and the girl says that she is an adult. In this situation, holding the petitioner guilty of rape because the girl was a minor at the time of marriage was not appropriate. With this, the court set aside the trial court order and acquitted the accused.

Ramtek, Saoner top arrest charts in Nagpur rural
Nagpur: A detailed analysis of official Maharashtra Police data shows that Saoner and Ramtek police stations have recorded the highest number of arrests in the Nagpur rural jurisdiction over the last five months. The increased figures are primarily attributed to intensified operations against human trafficking and illegal sand smuggling. According to the data, from January 1 to May 31, a total of 1,297 arrests were made across Nagpur rural. Saoner police station topped the list with 147 arrests, followed closely by Ramtek with 145. Narkhed (102), Mouda (100), and Khaparkheda (90) rounded out the top five. Both Saoner and Ramtek are located near the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border, making them vulnerable to cross-border criminal activities. The border location sees a high volume of interstate movement, which has often been exploited for unlawful practices such as cattle smuggling, trafficking, and illegal resource extraction. However, increased vigilance and coordinated enforcement by local police have led to significant breakthroughs in curbing these operations. According to senior police officials, Ramtek has emerged as a vital outpost in the fight against cross-border crime. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "The strategy is simple — if there is solid evidence, arrests are made without delay. Letting offenders go only encourages them to return to crime. Firm action is the only deterrent," a senior officer told TOI. Ramtek has seen frequent cases of human trafficking, often involving multiple accused in a single operation. In several cases, five to six individuals are apprehended at once, which contributes to the higher number of arrests. Although cases under POCSO Act are relatively rare in this region, police continue to deal with disturbing instances of exploitation and abuse. In a recent, high-profile case, the Ramtek police arrested a criminal from Jharkhand for sextorting a 17-year-old boy. The minor later died by suicide, highlighting the growing reach of online crimes and the importance of prompt cyber surveillance and inter-state coordination. Saoner, which registered slightly more arrests than Ramtek, has also seen a surge in cases related to illegal sand mining. The region's riverbeds are frequently targeted for unauthorised extraction, prompting the police to ramp up patrolling and set up special squads to tackle environmental offences. While these two stations lead the charts, overall policing in Nagpur's rural areas has seen an increased focus on organised crime and offences involving the vulnerable populace. The data reflects a shift towards more proactive, evidence-based policing — one that aims not just to respond to crime, but to prevent its recurrence through consistent enforcement and community vigilance.

30-year-old held for breaking into hosp's girls hostel, molesting student
Indore: A 30-year-old man, who broke into girls' hostel of Amaltas Hospital in Bangar with the intent to commit theft and later attacked a student with a knife during an attempted sexual assault, was arrested by police. The accused, Sanjay Parmar alias Sanju, a resident of Bangar village in Dewas district, was identified through CCTV footage captured by cameras installed in the area with public assistance. The incident took place on the night of June 18, when Parmar trespassed into the hostel room and attempted to sexually assault a student at knifepoint. When the student resisted and tried to escape, he launched a brutal attack, inflicting serious injuries. Following the incident, a case was registered at Bank Note Press police station under relevant sections of the BNS, and an intensive investigation was launched. SP Puneet Gehlod said that four dedicated police teams were formed. The teams reviewed over 250 CCTV footage and questioned 42 suspects. Based on leads from technical surveillance and informant networks, the accused was taken into custody. During questioning, Parmar disclosed that he previously worked as a labourer during the construction of the hospital's girls' hostel and was familiar with its layout and entry points, including the locations of CCTVs. He admitted that he entered the hostel with the intent to steal but, upon seeing the girl asleep, his intentions changed. He then attempted to molest her at knifepoint and assaulted her when she tried to flee. Police said the accused climbed to the hostel's first-floor terrace using a ladder from the nearby fields, broke into the room through the rear bathroom access, and carried out the attack. Parmar already has a criminal record, including a recent case registered at the Bank Note Press police station under sections related to molestation and Pocso Act violations.
