OpenAI removes mentions of Jony Ive's startup ‘io' amid trademark dispute; says ‘We don't agree with…'

Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI Sam Altman-led OpenAI has removed all references to 'io,' the hardware startup co-founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive , from its website and social media. The move comes shortly after OpenAI announced a $6.5 billion deal to acquire the startup and build dedicated AI hardware. Sharing the news on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) with a link to the announcement blog post, the company said 'This page is temporarily down due to a court order following a trademark complaint from iyO about our use of the name 'io.' We don't agree with the complaint and are reviewing our options.' Following the removal, the original blog post and a nine-minute video featuring Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are no longer available online. In the deleted post, Altman and Ive had stated: 'The io team, focused on developing products that inspire, empower and enable, will now merge with OpenAI to work more intimately with the research, engineering and product teams in San Francisco.' OpenAI has not commented further on the status of the trademark dispute or when the content might be restored. But in a statement to The Verge, OpenAI confirmed that the deal is still in place. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo On May 21, 2025, OpenAI formally announced it would acquire io, a relatively new AI devices company founded by Jony Ive, the former Chief Design Officer of Apple. The acquisition is valued at $6.4 billion, paid entirely in equity. Importantly, this amount includes OpenAI's earlier investment in io, effectively consolidating its prior financial and strategic interest into full ownership. This deal represents OpenAI's largest acquisition to date, dwarfing previous deals such as the $3 billion acquisition of coding assistant platform Windsurf and the purchase of Rockset, a real-time analytics startup. 6 Awesome New Features Coming in Android 16! Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch warns of AI ‘deskilling' people: ‘It's a risk that….'

Image for representative purpose Mistral AI CEO and former Google DeepMind researcher Arthur Mensch recently said that the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on white-collared jobs is an 'overstatement'. In an interview with The Times of London at the VivaTech conference in Paris, Mensch dismissed the idea that AI will result in huge job cuts. Instead, he sees AI 'deskilling' people as one of the biggest threats to the job market . Mensch said that as people rely more on AI to search and summarize information, they may stop thinking critically themselves. "It's a risk that you can avoid, if you think of it from a design perspective, if you make sure that you have the right human input, that you keep the human active," Mensch said at the Paris conference earlier this month. "You want people to continue learning," he continued. "Being able to synthesize information and criticize information is a core component to learning." Mistral AI CEO responds to Anthropic CEO's remark on losing over half of entry-level jobs to AI During the interview, Mensch also responded to recent warnings of losing jobs to AI including the one by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei . Dario said that AI may replace half of entry-level white-collar workers in the next five years. "We, as the producers of this technology, have a duty and an obligation to be honest about what is coming," Amodei told Axios in an interview published last month. The 42-year-old CEO emphasized that most people remain unaware of the impending transformation, calling it a reality that "sounds crazy, and people just don't believe it." Mensch said "I think it's very much of an overstatement," adding that he believed Amodei liked to "spread fear" as a marketing strategy. Instead of job cuts, Mensch believes AI will reshape office work, with more emphasis on human interaction. 'I do expect that we'll have more relational tasks because that's not something you can easily replace,' he said. 6 Awesome New Features Coming in Android 16! AI Masterclass for Students. Android 16 Update Makes Some Pixel Phones Unusable: What Happens Now?

Last Updated: Android 16 update was released earlier this month but it seems the supposed stable version still has bugs that affects the Pixel users. Google released the stable Android 16 update earlier this month but it seems the version is not without its issues. Some Pixel users who've managed to install the Android 16 update have noticed that the phone has become unusable because of bugs and the unresponsive navigation buttons on the device. These issues have mostly been cited after installing the latest Android 16 OTA version which is available for Pixel 6 and later models. The problem seems to have a limited effect and not all Pixel units are showing these signs but even then for a stable version it sounds like a major bug has passed through during the testing phases. The complaints from Pixel users have made their way to Reddit who noticed the gesture and navigation buttons not working on the Pixel phones. Some of them have seen the bug in effect for a few minutes while others have pointed out about the delayed response of their touch on the display. While others say switching to a different launcher app might fix the issue and others have suggested rebooting the device, which is probably not working as planned. Even though the issue is not widespread it seems to be linked to the Pixel AI ecosystem. What Google Has Said Google seems to have acknowledged the issue and is reportedly working on a fix that should be rolling out to all the affected devices via a public update in the next few weeks. The report here claims Google's internal team has worked out a fix for the navigation bug and we expect that to be available in the next update for the Pixel users. Talking about Pixels, Google has warned Pixel 6a users about a major issue with the battery that can be only fixed by reducing its charging hold and capacity. The company is going to roll out an update that will throttle the battery usage on the Pixel 6a model and this will be mandatory for most users. Google has started the process of reaching out to the affected Pixel 6a owners and they will be informed about the next steps in July and helping them address the issue. First Published:
