As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, former India opener
Virender Sehwag
has taken centre stage — not with a bat, but with his signature humour.
In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Sehwag was asked to pick a winner between the two franchises, both of whom are yet to win an IPL trophy despite being part of the league since its 2008 inception.

Sehwag's response? A classic jibe laced with superstition and self-awareness.
Who's that IPL player?
"I think RCB will win," Sehwag said with a smile. "I've gone back to my old form because the team I support usually loses.
Be it Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians or Punjab Kings vs RCB — every time I pick a side, they lose."
Sehwag then cheekily revealed that he's trying to apply the same 'reverse jinx' logic here. "I supported MI in Qualifier 2 against PBKS, and they lost. So I'm saying RCB will win… let's see what happens," he laughed, suggesting that his public support for RCB might just tip luck in PBKS' favour.

When the host asked him again, seeking clarity, Sehwag doubled down: 'RCB,' he repeated, with a mischievous grin.

ENG vs IND: Abhimanyu Easwaran overlooked, fans blame IPL favouritism

Abhimanyu Easwaran's wait for a Test debut continues, as he was once again left out of India's playing XI for the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, on Friday, June 20. Instead, the Indian team management opted to hand a debut to Sai Sudharsan, who was slotted in at the No. 3 position as India kicked off a new era under captain Shubman Gill. Easwaran, 29, has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and was first included in the Indian squad during the 2022 tour of Bangladesh. However, despite being part of the squad multiple times since, he is yet to break into the playing 11. Easwaran performing well in domestic cricket The Bengal batter was in red-hot form last season, scoring heavily in tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Cup. His notable knocks included 127*, 191, 116, 157*, 200*, among others. In 103 first-class matches, Easwaran has amassed 7,841 runs at an impressive average of 48.70, including 27 centuries and 31 half-centuries. Fans sensing IPL favouritism Despite his consistent performances, the selectors chose to back 23-year-old Sai Sudharsan, who has played 29 first-class games, scoring 1,957 runs at an average of 39.93 with seven hundreds and five fifties. Sudharsan also had an outstanding run in IPL 2025, where he claimed the Orange Cap with 759 runs in 15 innings. While Sudharsan's current form may have influenced the decision, the move drew mixed reactions from fans online, many of whom voiced their disappointment over Easwaran's continued exclusion. All eyes will now be on Sudharsan to see if he can capitalise on this opportunity and make a strong impression in his debut Test.

Sai Sudharsan Makes Test Debut for India in First Test vs England at Headingley

B. Sai Sudharsan will make his Test debut after being named in India's playing XI for the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, starting June 20 at Headingley. Cheteshwar Pujara presented Sudharsan with his Test cap ahead of the toss. With three ODI appearances and one T20I already under his belt, his Test debut completes the full set of international formats. Sudharsan has been a consistent force in white-ball cricket. He was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2025, winning the Orange Cap and cementing his reputation as one of India's brightest batting prospects. While his first-class average stands at a modest 39.93 from 49 innings, the selectors have backed his potential and long-term upside. That said, the last Indian top-order batter to have a sub-40 first-class average at the time of Test debut was Wookeri Raman, against West Indies in Chennai in 1987/88. What works in Sudharsan's favour is familiarity with English conditions — he featured in a few County Championship matches for Surrey during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In five innings for Surrey, he averaged 35, including a century against Nottinghamshire last year — a knock that hinted at his adaptability in seaming conditions. Related Topics Sai Sudharsan
