Accused in Rs 252 crore drug racket deported from UAE after CBI-INTERPOL coordination
NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has said that it has coordinated the deportation of Taher Salim Dola, a key accused in a synthetic drug case worth Rs 252 crore, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to CBI officials, Dola, who is wanted by the Mumbai police for allegedly operating an illegal Mephedrone manufacturing unit in Maharashtra's Sangli, arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on flight AI-984 from Dubai.
They said that Dola was arrested by Abu Dhabi police in January after INTERPOL issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against him on November 25, 2024, following a request from the Mumbai police through the CBI.
They went on to add that Dola's location in the UAE was tracked through close coordination between the CBI, INTERPOL and the UAE authorities.

Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging him to punish those guilty of illegal mining in the state, alleging that the government has not been honest and committed to ensuring proper punishment for those guilty of "looting the state's wealth".In order to bring the culprits behind illegal mining to justice, Patil also suggested steps that the Siddaramaiah government should take, according to a seven-page letter to the Chief Minister, Patil claimed that only 7.6 per cent of all illegal mining cases have been investigated and that the government has not done enough to punish the culprits and recover the lost wealth. But in spite of such a large-scale loot, the government has not demonstrated honesty and commitment in ensuring commensurate punishment for the loot and recovery of the state's wealth," Patil said in the said that there is public outrage over illegal mining in the state and the administration's inability to address most of such cases."There is outrage among people about this. A special investigation team (SIT), which is looking into a few cases, has not made progress. These cases are getting buried in government files and administrative delays," he also suggested steps that can be taken to effectively address illegal mining and their investigation:Through the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance of 1946, a Recovery Commissioner should be immediately appointed within the jurisdiction of the State Government to seize the property of criminals accused of recovery efforts. This Commissioner must be provided with the necessary support and strength. Steps must be taken with firm determination to make recovery to the number of illegal mining cases that have completed investigation and are now in the trial phase in court, there are at least ten times more cases that have not yet undergone investigation. Investigations into such cases are essential. For that purpose, a special investigation team with stronger enforcement authority should be formed, and the police system should be structured accordingly, enabling the punishment of criminals involved in such crimes.A special court must be immediately established to investigate the cases with criminal intent related to illegal Karnataka Law Minister further called for administrators to recognise the seriousness of the matter, saying, "The serious directives already given, and the documentary evidence submitted to the then-Cabinet subcommittee, must be preserved, and a final decision must be made before they disappear for any reason".advertisementThe state minister's scathing letter came more than a month after a CBI court convicted former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and three others in the Obulapuram illegal mining case. Meghalaya murder case: Indore property dealer arrested for destroying evidence
The Indore Police on Sunday arrested a property dealer, identified as Shilom James, in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case for tampering with allegedly disposed of a black bag belonging to the main murder accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi. The bag contained Rs 5 lakh in cash, her jewellery, a country-made pistol and her clothes -- all items were linked to the probe, the police told India Today the course of the investigation, one of the arrested accused -- Vishal alias Vicky Chauhan, a hitman allegedly hired by Sonam to kill her husband Raja Raghuvanshi -- revealed that he had booked an online auto from his Indore residence to Sonam's hideout in the same city with a black bag containing her clothes, jewellery, Rs 5 lakh in cash, and a pistol. Following the accused's statement, the Shillong Police reached Indore, the couple's hometown. However, after failing to locate the black bag, their counterparts in Indore managed to track down an auto driver who had delivered the bag to the Heerabag area, where Sonam was the police raided the flat in Heerabag. But, the bag was still checking nearby CCTV footage, the police identified Shilom carrying a black bag from the flat and putting it inside a car. The police, then, summoned him for he didn't respond to the summonses, the police tracked Shilom's phone and located him on the Indore-Devas road, where they arrested a local court on Saturday remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged boyfriend Raj to a 13-day judicial custody in connection with Raja's police custody for the two prime accused -- Raja's wife Sonam, and Raj -- ended on Saturday, and the special investigation team probing the case did not seek an extension, officials from PTI

Indore Man Who Rented Flat To Sonam, Killers, Arrested For Hiding Evidence
New Delhi: A property dealer from Indore who rented a flat to one of Raja Raghuvanshi's killers after the sinister crime has been arrested for allegedly concealing crucial evidence. According to the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT), officials said Silome James had rented a flat in Indore's Hirabagh locality to one of three killers - Vishal Singh Chauhan. The victim's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi - who is the prime accused in the murder case - is also believed to have stayed in the flat between May 26 and June 8, before she surrendered to the police. During her interrogation, Sonam said she left a black-coloured bag in the flat on June 8 and left for Ghazipur. Sonam's phone, Raja's jewellery, Rs five lakh cash, and a country-made pistol were also kept in the flat. However, when the police raided the house, they did not find anything. The police then interrogated the flat's property dealer, James, twice - but he did not reveal anything. Preliminary investigation, however, revealed that two days after Sonam surrendered, James went to the flat and removed the bag and other evidence items. He was allegedly caught concealing the evidence in one of the CCTV cameras collected by the Meghalaya SIT. When the cops called James for interrogation last evening based on the footage, he claimed to be travelling to Bhopal and informed them that he would speak to them on Monday. Minutes later, he switched off his phone. James was arrested around 7:30 pm from the Bhonrasa Toll gate in Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee. The police will interrogate James once they get his police remand, and later will be taken to Shillong on a transit remand - similar to other accused. The Honeymoon Murder Case Raja and Sonam got married on May 11. Nine days later, they left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20 - with a one-way ticket in hand. The couple roamed around in the Northeast for three days before going "missing". When their family members could not reach them, they reached out to the police. What initially started as a probe to find the couple, turned into a murder investigation when Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2, ten days after the brutal crime. His preliminary autopsy report revealed that he was attacked twice - once each on the back and front of his head. On the night of June 7, the 'missing' wife was found in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police. The remaining three killers were also subsequently arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that during their honeymoon, Sonam and Raja carried four phones ( of which three belonged to Sonam). After the three hitmen killed her husband, Sonam broke his phone and threw the damaged device, the police said. The other three mobile phones that belonged to Sonam are still missing, and the police are searching for them.
