Palestine Film Institute to present three documentaries at Sheffield DocFest
Through the Palestine Showcase, PFI continues to champion Palestinian cinema on the global stage, providing space for creative resistance and meaningful dialogue amid efforts to preserve and share Palestinian stories with the world. The Palestine Film Institute (PFI) is set to present three feature-length documentaries in progress as part of the Palestine Showcase at this year's Sheffield DocFest. Organised in collaboration with Sheffield DocFest, the British Council and Switzerland's AKKA Films, the special screening will take place on June 21 at the Montgomery Theatre in Sheffield, exclusively for DocFest delegates. This initiative underscores PFI's ongoing commitment to preserving and amplifying Palestinian narratives through international platforms. By offering filmmakers and producers a stage to present their works-in-progress, the showcase aims to connect them with key figures in the film industry, including festival programmers and decision-makers, and to foster engagement with the broader global cinema community. The three selected projects each reflect distinct aspects of the Palestinian experience, blending powerful storytelling with creative cinematic approaches. Theft of Fire, directed by Amer Shomali and produced by Rashid Abdelhamid, Ina Fichman, and Remi Grellety, is a genre-bending documentary that imagines an art heist to reclaim stolen Palestinian antiquities. White Resistance: Letters to the Living, directed by Mahmoud Atassi and produced by Abdulrahman Alkilany, draws from harrowing footage captured inside Gaza's Kamal Edwan hospital and follows the legal efforts to secure the release of its detained director, Hussam AbuSafiya. Meanwhile, Reclaiming Time, directed and produced by Fuad Hindieh, takes a surreal and visually rich look at a filmmaker's quest to legally change his birthdate—an act that transforms into a symbolic journey to reclaim time lost to occupation.

Now, a quarter of a century on, the pair may have themselves another 'good horse' from the very same 'vines' that produced their former dynamic duo. Her name is Just Like Tilda. The daughter of Divine Prophet created a lasting impression when finishing over the top of her rivals to score an impressive, bookie-busting, debut win at Kembla earlier this month when crunched from an opening quote of $6.50 into $4.80. Cross could be forgiven for talking up Just Like Tilda on the score of her debut but is playing down any hype. 'At the moment, I am holding my powder dry,' Cross said. Whatever happens, the trip away, the floating, that all improves a horse and it sort of adds another string to their bow. 'She is a very sensible little filly, we are going there hoping, we just have to wait for the outcome.' Just Like Tilda is the third foal of her dam Matilda Jade whose foaling date (September 14 in 2011) was the exact same day as Winx. Matilda Jade was bred and raced by Chung and trained by Cross but sadly, the daughter of I Am Invincible only raced once, finishing runner-up at Gundagai. 'We took her there thinking she would win easily but she got galloped on and severed a tendon so that was the only start she ever had,' Cross said. He's also the damsire of Silent Witness. As for Badhatharry, he has had a textbook build-up to 1400m which he is crying out for. Michael Travers has three accepted here and all three could easily medal. MISS PEPEHA (10) is getting closer than ever to a win. His other one Stormy Malice wants 1400m. To be fair to the horse, because he is a nice horse, he hasn't been at all helped by wide barriers hence he's been getting way back but running on dutifully. DESERT OPAL (5) has a win, four seconds and a third from his 11 starts, His personal best came last start on May 27 when he won a 1400m Maiden at home at Albury on a Heavy 8. Reliable type, well up to this. Only two are wins but looking back now, her losses, while costly at the time, were in races where the form has stood up since. Drawn one, should help. ELASTANE MISS (3) has done nothing wrong in her four starts; she won at Albury on a Heavy 10 and all the rest are seconds including one here at home. Third-up here; Blaike McDougall sticking for a third time too. Fast forward to now and the son of Prized Icon is off a closing second to Hooligan Tommy at Kembla. Ready for 2000m. AVONVIEW (6) is as fit as any horse racing on the card. Well placed apart from the draw. Any upgrade from Heavy could also assist. DANDRUFF (2) will stay all day and is one for one on Heavy. His last four starts are for Tim Fitzsimmons and are '1211'. That second by the way was at Bendigo by less than a neck. Big winner on the Heavy 9 at Mornington last time. Obviously Condor is flying, pardon the pun. MAJOR TIME (5) is a grand old campaigner from the Gratz Vella camp. He's got a good set of numbers across the board and as for each-way punters are concerned; he has won and placed at 34 of his 65 starts. Bet: Condor to win, exacta 3 to beat 5 ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ RACE 7: EASDOWNS ACCOUNTANTS & ADVISORS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300m JUST LIKE TILDA (1) was just so impressive winning on debut at Kembla when $6.50 into $4.40. Won with a lot of authority on the day demonstrating a high degree of race-smarts and quality. Deanne Panya knows her well, so does the trainer of course and he's set her a task that while not a total slam dunk, looks pretty close to it. Bet: Just like Tilda to win, exacta 1 to beat 5. Nani's HIT 3 Hit By Plagiarism Row, Madras High Court Sends Legal Notice
Last Updated: Actor Nani's film HIT 3, directed by Sailesh Kalanu, faces copyright infringement allegations by writer Sonia Vimal, who claims it borrows from her unpublished works. Actor Nani's recent release HIT: The Third Case, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, released on May 1. The film is now facing legal trouble over plagiarism claims. The Madras High Court has issued a notice to the film's makers after writer Soniya Vimal alleged that the movie is an unauthorised adaptation of her work. In her petition, Soniya stated that HIT 3 closely resembles her unpublished scripts Agent 11 and Agent V. She claimed to have written the original story and registered it with the South Indian Film Writers' Association on August 4, 2021. According to her, she later sent the synopsis of her script to Nani on August 8, 2022, hoping for a possible collaboration. However, she never received a response. After watching HIT 3 in theatres, Soniya said she was shocked to find that the film's storyline was strikingly similar to her own, with only a few changes made. She also submitted a detailed comparison between her script and the film's plot as part of her legal evidence. The High Court notice stated, 'HIT: The Third Case (HIT 3) was an adaptation of her registered script and to permanently restrain the respondents from assigning any further rights of the movie and from committing any further acts of infringement." Soniya has also sought a share in the profits earned by the movie. She has requested that the makers render accounts of the earnings and pay her 20 per cent as damages and compensation. Additionally, she filed a formal complaint with the South Indian Film Writers' Association, but claims no action has been taken so far. While Soniya has described herself as a fan of Nani, she says her admiration doesn't change the fact that her story was allegedly used without permission. As of now, the makers of HIT 3 have not released an official statement regarding the allegations. HIT: The Third Case (also known as HIT 3) is a 2025 Indian Telugu-language neo-noir action thriller, written and directed by Sailesh Kolanu. Produced by Wall Poster Cinema in association with Unanimous Productions, the film marks the third chapter in the HIT franchise, following HIT: The Second Case (2022). The movie features Nani and Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles. The story follows a tough police officer from the Homicide Intervention Team (HIT) who is tasked with tracking down a group of brutal killers responsible for a string of violent murders. Charles pays tribute to ‘resilience' of Antarctic research scientists
While the UK enjoys its longest day of sunlight on Saturday, British scientists at the South Pole experience 24 hours of darkness. In a morale-raising message recorded for the BBC's midwinter broadcast, Charles praised the researchers' 'critically important' work as well as their 'resilience and commitment' to their jobs. 'With the sun shying away from your horizon today, I particularly wanted to send my warmest good wishes to all of those serving at British Antarctic research stations this midwinter's say and, above all, to express the greatest admiration for the critically important work you do. 'The scientific research that the British Antarctic Survey undertakes, alongside teams from across the world, is today more vital than ever, telling us stories of the past, the present and possible futures. 'Each observation, measurement and calculation you undertake adds to the world's understanding of the Earth's fragile systems and the role humanity plays, as we struggle to live in harmony with nature. 'I very much appreciate the resilience and commitment to duty you all demonstrate so effectively, and which embody the pioneering spirit that has characterised British polar exploration for generations. 'On the 70th anniversary of this midwinter broadcast, I send countless special thoughts for your celebrations today.' It comes a month after the King, a longtime environmental advocate, urged people to help save the planet during a charity fundraiser, telling the crowd: 'Collaboration is far better than conflict.' He said the charity's work comes at a time when efforts are under way to 'develop an even greater ability to manage the human and animal conflict'. Charles said: 'If we're going to rescue this poor planet (from) continuing degradation, and restore some degree of harmony to the proceedings, we must also understand that whatever we take and exploit from nature, we need to give something back in return to enable nature to sustain us.' The BBC's midwinter broadcast is part of a day of celebrations for personnel at British Antarctic Survey stations at Rothera, Bird Island, and South Georgia, who join colleagues at other international bases across the continent to mark the day. Alongside the King's message, the BBC World Service programme consists of music requests and messages from home to those at BAS research stations, who traditionally feast, exchange presents, and watch the classic 1982 horror film The Thing, set in the Antarctic. This year midwinter coincides with sweltering weather back on British soil, as the UK prepares for thunderstorms which are set to mix with continued high temperatures on Saturday – with up to 34C possible in some areas. A yellow thunderstorm weather warning covering all of northern England, from Nottingham up to above Newcastle, will come into force from 3pm and last until 4am on Sunday. The Met Office warned the most intense storms could produce 'frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds', along with a chance of flooding. Parts of eastern England could also see temperatures peak high enough to eclipse the 32.2C seen on Thursday and become the hottest day of the year so far.
