Casino Lighting May Be Secretly Pushing You To Gamble More, Reveals Study

A new study by researchers from Flinders University and Monash University in Australia suggests that casino lighting may play a surprising role in encouraging risky gambling behaviour. The research found that blue-enriched lighting, commonly used in casino decor and LED screens, may influence brain responses, making individuals less sensitive to financial losses. The study published in Nature's Scientific Reports journal examined participants' economic decisions using a series of casino scenarios under blue-enriched and blue-depleted light to assess the impact of light wavelengths on risk preferences. "We found that light with more blue wavelengths in it, which is frequently emitted by LED screens and casino lighting, could subtly influence how people perceive losses and gains," says lead author, Dr Alicia Lander from FHMRI Sleep Health. "This raises questions about the role of lighting in environments like casinos or online gambling platforms." According to the news release by Flinders University, the study investigated whether circadian photoreception affects risk-taking behaviour during gambling by manipulating the 'melanopic' brightness of light, which targets the body's internal clock, while keeping visual brightness constant. The results showed that participants exposed to blue-enriched light became less sensitive to losses, making them more likely to choose risky financial options over safer alternatives. "Typically, people have a strong tendency to avoid losses, often outweighing potential gains in their decision-making," says Dr Lander. "However, under blue-enriched light, which stimulates non-visual circadian photoreceptors, they demonstrated a reduced sensitivity to financial losses that may influence gambling tendencies, potentially encouraging riskier behaviours. "Under conditions where the lighting emitted less blue, people tended to feel a $100 loss much more strongly than a $100 gain - the loss just feels worse. "But under bright, blue-heavy light such as that seen in casino machines, the $100 loss didn't appear to feel as bad, so people were more willing to take the risk." The study suggests that blue light alters neural processing in brain regions tied to reward and decision-making, such as the amygdala and habenula, possibly dampening negative emotions associated with losses. "Interestingly, we found that women displayed greater loss aversion than men, showing more reluctance to take risks under both light conditions," says Dr Lander. "This aligns with previous research indicating that women often experience stronger emotional responses to financial uncertainty, while men may have a greater tolerance for risk."

BTIG Reiterates a Buy Rating on CleanSpark (NASDAQ:CLSK), Sets a $22 PT

CleanSpark, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLSK) is one of the 13 Crypto Stocks with the Highest Upside Potential. In a report released on June 13, Gregory Lewis from BTIG reiterated a Buy rating on CleanSpark, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLSK) with a price target of $22.00. The analyst reasoned that while other companies pursued high-performance computing opportunities, CleanSpark, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLSK) 'quietly' became the second largest US-listed bitcoin miner by hash capacity, standing behind Mara Holdings. A hall of server racks, illuminated by blue LED lights and humming with energy. He further told investors in a research note that the company has outgrown a majority of the competition since the end of 2023, experiencing a notable hash capacity growth of 350%. Management stated that CleanSpark, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:CLSK) existing infrastructure footprint holds the capacity to support over 60 EH of capacity. The firm also said that CleanSpark, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLSK) owns around 12,500 bitcoins, which is the third-highest number of bitcoins owned by miners. Since the company's management is focusing on mining, BTIG anticipates it to gain hash capacity market share as other miners pause mining growth for HPC. CleanSpark, Inc. 50% of hockey ground construction completed in Coimbatore

Construction of an international-standard hockey ground in Coimbatore has reached the halfway mark, with several key facilities nearing completion. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin laid the foundation for the facility on April 27, 2025. It is being developed on a 7.02-acre site at the Corporation Higher Secondary School ground in R.S. Puram at an estimated cost of ₹9.67 crore. International specifications According to the Coimbatore Corporation, the ground is designed to meet international specifications. It will feature International Hockey Federation (FIH)-certified synthetic turf laid over 6,500 square metres, a dressing room spanning 147 square metres, six stadium mast lights, and a six-unit pop-up sprinkler system. A project official said, 'The initial phase of work includes installation of the turf, lighting, fencing, sprinkler system, and supporting infrastructure. The six pop-up sprinkler units have been installed and tested. Milling of the turf area is complete, and bituminous (BT) surfacing is under way, over which the synthetic turf will be laid. Fencing is in progress around the turf area, covering a length of 350 metres.' Two dugouts are also being constructed as part of the initial phase. Each of the six stadium mast light poles will stand 17 metres tall and will be fitted with 20 LED lights of 500 watts each. Construction of the dressing room, toilets, and a water tank is ongoing and is expected to be completed within a month, the official added. Future proposals include a spectator gallery with a seating capacity of 1,700, a conference hall, dining facility for players, a gymnasium, rest rooms, office spaces, and parking facilities for 114 cars and 208 two-wheelers.

Tesla rival's ‘quiet statement' shades Elon

Don't miss out on the headlines from On the Road. Followed categories will be added to My News. Polestar customers looking at the brand's latest model face an interesting choice – do you want to go fast, or do you want to go far? The cheapest version of this prestige electric SUV claims truly impressive driving range – some 706 kilometres. You can go faster if you spend more, but the most powerful version must stop 140 kilometres sooner than that. All versions of the Polestar 3 have the same battery, a whopping 111kWh unit with roughly twice the capacity of affordable electric hatchbacks. Lighter and simpler, the entry-level Polestar 3 has just one motor, a 220kW motor mounted in the rear of the car. 2025 Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor electric car. Picture: Supplied MORE: Inside China's total domination of Australia Capable of producing 220kW and 490Nm, it can propel the car to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds. Want to go faster? Dual-motor versions are available with 360kW/840Nm or 380kW and 910Nm – the latter capable of ripping to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds. But it can only drive for 567 kilometres. Price might be a deciding factor. The two-wheel-drive model costs about $128,000 drive-away, while the high performance dual motor version starts from about $155,000 drive-away. That's a lot of coin. The options are dear, too. A 'plus pack' with a premium Bowers and Wilkins stereo is $9000, premium LED headlights are $3000 and an electric tow bar adds $2900 to the deal. Whichever way you go, the result is a polished electric SUV with Scandinavian design elements and Chinese battery know-how. Think luxurious yet sustainable materials, wonderfully comfortable seats and a Google-powered infotainment system. It takes a little more time to learn than simple smartphone mirroring such as Apple CarPlay, but it's worth persisting with as it helps the car stand apart from the crowd. 2025 Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor electric car. Picture: Supplied The interior really does make a quiet statement. It's a calming, comfortable space that swerves around the ostentatious trim and nightclub-esque LED lighting of some alternatives. And you could say the same of the driving experience. This isn't a shouty, boisterous car. It's an exercise in restraint, painted with a palette of neutral earth tones rather than primary colours or neon. 2025 Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor electric car. Picture: Supplied MORE: Crisis sends Australian fuel prices soaring The standard car's regular suspension does a decent job of keeping you comfortable while maintaining control of considerable mass. Air suspension in the all-wheel-drive version might be a better bet, but then again, it adds weight and complexity that saps range. The simple two-wheel-drive set-up suits the Polestar. It's a car that aims to soother, rather than thrill. Self-assured but not self-aggrandising, it's a pleasantly inoffensive model geared toward folks who appreciate its restrained design and environmental conscience. 2025 Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor electric car. Picture: Supplied MORE: Magic mushies, booze kill off 'soft' utes Is that enough to justify near enough to double the investment over a Tesla Model Y? Perhaps it will be for some folks. But it's hard to see it cutting through in big numbers here, particularly when rival machines like the Porsche Macan bring prestige badges and the promise of greater driving satisfaction for similar money. Smart lighting upgrade slashes energy use at Newport DWP

Whitecroft Lighting, a leading UK lighting manufacturer, completed the overhaul at nine DWP locations in Wales, including Newport. The project involved swapping outdated lights for modern LED luminaires, significantly boosting efficiency. Whitecroft's pioneering intelligent lighting controls, part of its 'Organic Response' system, adjust lighting levels based on natural light availability. This innovation has made a vast difference in older buildings with inefficient legacy systems. The upgrade is expected to contribute significantly to the DWP's ambitious 45 per cent carbon reduction target. It also aligns with the Welsh Government's sustainability goals. Mark Brunt, regional sales manager at Whitecroft Lighting, said: "When Mitie approached us, we knew we had to deliver a solution that made a real impact on the DWP's carbon reduction targets. "Swapping thousands of outdated lights for LEDs instantly cut energy use by 50 per cent, and with Organic Response, we pushed efficiency even further, achieving up to 80 per cent savings." The upgrade was completed within a two-year timeframe, with minimal disruption to DWP staff and visitors. Whitecroft installed more than 54,000 physical products, including luminaires, sensors, and nodes, making it one of the company's biggest projects to date. Mitie, the facilities management provider, also highlighted the benefits of smart-ready buildings, which provide real-time insights for data-driven decisions, reducing waste and enhancing efficiency. The upgrade future-proofs the lighting in DWP's Welsh estate, making it ready for the next generation of smart building upgrades.
