The leaders greeted each other with a warm handshake, and PM Modi said, 'India's friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger.' PM Modi and Meloni previously met during the COP28 summit in Dubai, where they clicked a selfie. PM Meloni captioned the photo 'Good friends at COP28, #Melodi', which went viral. Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge to attend the high-level gathering. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed him at the summit venue in Alberta. This visit marks PM Modi's sixth consecutive G7 appearance and his first trip to Canada in a decade. He received a ceremonial welcome at Calgary airport, where India's acting high commissioner Chinmoy Naik was present to receive him. PM Modi landed in Canada after concluding his official visit to Cyprus. His participation in this year's G7 comes at a time of diplomatic recalibration between India and several key Western powers. The G7 Summit is an annual gathering of leaders from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union (EU).
