Storms on Thursday could bring quick burst of intense weather to parts of Massachusetts
Thunderstorms on Thursday evening threaten to interrupt the start of what will feel like our first true summer stretch of weather in 2025. Temperatures soar After a bit of unsettled spring, New England is finally flipping the switch. Temperatures will soar into the upper 80s and low 90s Thursday afternoon, and for one of the first times this season, it will feel hot too thanks to rising dewpoints climbing well into the 60s. That added humidity will make it feel more like the mid-90s at times and set the stage for late-day storms. WBZ-TV graphic Timing and threats A cold front sweeping through New England Thursday evening will spark scattered storms-most likely between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. WBZ-TV graphic The primary concerns will be: Downpours that could lead to brief street flooding Gusty winds over 40 mph Frequent lightning Large hail WBZ-TV graphic Not everyone will see a storm, but those who do could experience a quick burst of intense weather. Stay alert if you have evening plans, especially outdoors. Looking ahead The good news? Once this front passes, our summer-like stretch of weather continues. Friday through much of the weekend looks dry, sunny, and seasonably warm. And yes... it's possible Boston could finally break the infamous rainy Saturday streak we've been stuck in for weeks. Then next week, the heat turns up even more. We're forecasting highs in the low to mid 90s for several straight days, with a midsummer feel settling in through much of the Northeast. We'll be tracking the storms closely all day on Thursday. Download the CBS News Boston app, stream live radar on our website, and tune into WBZ for updates from the Next Weather team.

Heat builds across Colorado and storm chances return
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon. While rain will be light or even absent in many locations, the bigger concern is strong wind gusts. These storms may produce outflow winds up to 50 mph. High pressure will dominate our weather, pushing temperatures well above average through the end of the week. Highs across the Front Range will reach the mid-80s to low 90s today through Friday, with even hotter conditions likely this weekend. Sunday is currently projected to be the warmest and driest day, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s in some locations. CBS Wednesday and Thursday bring an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily over the mountains and foothills. The storms will be fueled by a modest uptick in moisture and instability, severe storms are possible across the Eastern Plains on Thursday afternoon. CBS Friday is shaping up to be the most active day for thunderstorms. A mix of increased instability and moisture could bring a risk for a few strong to severe storms, particularly across the northeastern plains. CBS The weekend will be dominated by a ridge of high pressure over the Rockies, keeping things mostly dry and hot with daytime highs in the 90s. CBS

Tornado confirmed in upstate NY with 110 mph winds: Here's where it touched down
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has confirmed that a tornado touched down Monday afternoon in the towns of Great Valley and Humphrey in Cattaraugus County. The Weather Service survey team confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down at 5:37 p.m. between U.S. Highway 219 and Farm Market Road and continued northeast for approximately 2.4 miles. The twister reached an estimated peak wind of 110 mph and maximum width of 600 yards, according to the Weather Service. The twister was on the ground for approximately four minutes. Footage of the area shows several heavily damaged houses - including several now without a roof - garages and barns that were flattened and debris strewn across lawns and roads. Some large tractor trailers and campers were also overturned. Hundreds of trees toppled - some snapped midway up the trunk and others were uprooted entirely. One entire hillside showed trees sheared off mid-trunk for hundreds of yards. According to the report, as the tornado traveled northeast, damage became more severe. Several homes, garages, and structures near the intersection of Sugartown Road and Farm Market Road, Haines Hollow Road and Bonnie Way "either had the full loss of the structure, loss of significant roofing material, or the loss of some of the walls in the upper portion of the structure," according to the report.
