Montgomery residents arrested after 100 mph police chase in Millbrook

Two Montgomery residents have been arrested following a high-speed chase in Millbrook on Friday. On June 13, Millbrook police attempted to stop 27-year-old Montgomery resident Anastasia T. Philpot for a traffic violation at the intersection of Alabama 143 and Alabama River Parkway. Authorities said Philpot allegedly sped in her 2022 Nissan sedan eastbound on Alabama River Parkway to evade being stopped, allegedly at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Philpot allegedly made a U-turn upon reaching the toll bridge on Alabama River Parkway to continue westbound at allegedly speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Once heading westbound, Philpot allegedly nearly struck another vehicle, then lost control of the car. The chase ended with Philpot's vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a power pole and guidewire. Alabama Power has since repaired the damaged powerline, as the initial damage caused a power outage in the immediate area. Philpot was taken into custody with no incident or injury at the scene, but her passenger, 21-year-old Montgomery resident Jasmyn J. Johnson, allegedly fled on foot. Johnson was arrested outside of a nearby business. Philpot has been charged with felony attempting to elude and reckless endangerment, while Johnson only faces charges of attempting to elude. Philpot and Johnson were transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where they were processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail pending bond. Millbrook police chief P.K. Johnson said that a loaded firearm was recovered from the inside of the vehicle after the chase. No further information was immediately released while the investigation continues. Driven to distraction: Johor man blames wife for wrong-way stunt on Jalan Skudai

JOHOR BARU, June 9 — A domestic dispute took a sharp turn – literally – after a man drove against traffic on Jalan Skudai here in the early hours of Hari Raya Aidiladha. Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the incident occurred around 1.41am last Saturday, along Jalan Skudai, Pantai Lido. He said local police were alerted to the incident by Bukit Aman after a video of a blue Perodua Aruz driving against traffic was widely circulated on Facebook. 'The vehicle was later traced through its registration number, and the driver was ordered to present himself at the Johor Baru South Traffic Police Station,' Raub said in a statement today. He said the man, a local, turned up at the station at 11.30pm yesterdayt and admitted to driving against traffic after a disagreement with his wife. 'He claimed he lost focus and accidentally entered the wrong lane during the argument,' Raub said. A urine test showed the man was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. Raub urged eyewitnesses to contact Traffic Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Zulpaka Bambo at 014-8861791 or head to the Johor Baru South Traffic Police Station to assist with investigations.

Driver's noisy muffler leads to traffic stop and firearm recovery

A driver's noisy muffler caught the attention of a Barrie police officer on Saturday morning. Just before 10 a.m., a loud vehicle was spotted by police travelling northbound on Essa Road. An officer stopped the vehicle and determined that the man's mufflers were modified. As the officer continued to investigate, the driver was unable to surrender a valid permit; his permit had expired nearly 14 months ago. When the officer checked the man's driver's license, it was confirmed that it had been suspended last year. The 24-year-old from Barrie has been charged with an improper muffler, driving a motor vehicle with no validated permit and driving while under suspension. Police also found an alleged airsoft firearm in the man's vehicle. Officials remind drivers that modified mufflers will always catch the attention of those around them, especially police. It is never advisable to travel with a replica or airsoft pistol as these will be treated by police as real until they are confirmed otherwise. The driver is expected to before the courts at a later date.
