We asked 12 beauty experts to spill on their favourite beauty buys – some cost £450, others just £2
Some of the experts' picks will surprise you... Save Vs Splurge We asked 12 beauty experts to spill on their favourite beauty buys – some cost £450, others just £2 Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IN the wise words of Jessie J, it's not about the money where beauty buying is concerned. In fact, more than a third of Boots Advantage Card members shopped for both budget-friendly make-up and premium cosmetics in 2024, focusing their attention not on how much products costs but on what really works - not something that's always easy to work out. To find out where we should be spending our money, and what products we can save on, we asked 10 industry experts for their favourite budget beauty product, and the one they will shell out for. Tara Ledden, Beauty Editor 32 These are the products Beauty Editor Tara Ledden buys again and again Credit: Tara Ledden I'm a huge fan of high street beauty, as there are so many brilliant products lining the shelves today, you really don't have to spend loads to arm yourself with hard-working products. However, if I'm going to splurge, it's almost always on skincare. BUDGET BUY 32 This multi-tasking spray is a hair saviour Credit: Arkive ARKIVE The Prologue Hair Primer, £4.50 I talk about ARKIVE The Prologue Hair Primer, £4.50, on an almost daily basis. In fact, when I told Beauty Writer Mia that I was going to make it my budget pick, she replied: "I knew it!" immediately. It's super lightweight, yet it still dissolves tangles and manages to leave hair noticeably softer and more shiny - while also protecting it from heat - without leaving any residue behind. It's impossible to use too much, so if you have fine hair like me, you don't need to worry about it feeling dirty or limp. BLOWOUT BEAUTY 32 This moisturiser is worth the splurge Credit: Tatcha Tatcha The Silk Cream, £123 I discovered Tatcha The Silk Cream, £123, in the Fabulous beauty cupboard over two years ago and started slathering it on my face. Within days, I was getting compliments on how good my skin looked, including one from a fellow beauty editor well versed in my history of acne, who exclaimed: "Your skin looks like porcelain!" before we'd even said hello. I'd used it for a week before I googled the price, and I instantly started using a tiny pea-sized amount to try to make the tub last longer, thinking I'd never be able to justify a repurchase. Unfortunately for my bank balance, I've not found a cheaper moisturiser that compares, and have since re-stocked multiple times. Jamie Genevieve, make-up artist and founder of Vieve 32 These are the products Jamie Genevieve swears by Credit: Jamie Genevieve As a make-up artist, it doesn't get more fun than testing and trying new make-up launches. Adeola Gboyega, make-up artist 32 Here's what MUA Adeola loves Credit: Adeola Gboyega I'm not into products that are all packaging and no performance. If it doesn't get results or elevate my routine in some way, it's not worth the spend. JUMEIRAH MARKS WORLD SEA TURTLE DAY WITH NEW MILESTONES IN MARINE CONSERVATION
United Arab Emirates, Dubai, 16 June 2025: In celebration of World Sea Turtle Day, Jumeirah – together with members of the community, guests and partners – released 72 rehabilitated sea turtles back into their natural habitat this morning. The release included Hawksbill and Green turtles, and marks a significant milestone for the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), with over 2,300 turtles now returned to the wild since its launch in 2004. Among those released was Najeeb – meaning 'noble' and 'generous' in Arabic – an 80kg male Green turtle rescued in December 2024 with severe injuries to both front flippers. Najeeb was one of two turtles fitted with a satellite tracker, allowing the DTRP team to monitor his journey after release. The last time the team released a male Green turtle of similar size, it travelled all the way to nesting sites in Oman. Najeeb is one of many turtles nursed back to health by the dedicated team at the DTRP, based at Jumeirah Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Al Naseem. Each release marks a meaningful step forward in the ongoing mission to protect marine life and preserve biodiversity in the Arabian Gulf. This year, the DTRP reached a significant conservation milestone with the rare rescue of a Loggerhead baby – a species not known to nest in the Arabian Gulf. The tiny turtle, discovered earlier this year, represents an important finding in marine science for the region. According to experts from the IUCN and regional organisations, there are no previous records of Loggerhead turtles nesting inside the Gulf. 'This was a remarkable moment for our team and a meaningful step forward in our understanding of sea turtles in the Gulf,' commented Barbara Lang-Lenton, Director of Aquarium at Jumeirah Burj Al Arab and DTRP lead. ' Sea turtles have remarkably complex biology, and there is still much to uncover about their behaviours, migration patterns, and nesting habits in this region. Each new finding, like this one, helps us piece together a more complete picture of their presence and life cycles in the Gulf, guiding future conservation efforts. Although the Loggerhead baby was not part of today's release, it is expected to return to the wild in the coming months. This discovery follows another milestone in 2024, when a Green turtle nest was recorded in Abu Dhabi for the first time, underscoring the growing importance of the region in global marine conservation efforts. To further celebrate World Sea Turtle Day, a variety of conservation-focused activities took place across Jumeirah's portfolio. In Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Saadiyat Island, in partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), hosted an intimate release of 135 sea turtles on its pristine beachfront. Meanwhile, guests at Jumeirah Bali witnessed the release of newly hatched turtles into their natural habitat, as part of a long-standing collaboration with Eco Tourism Bali. The event also featured an engaging educational programme on sea turtle conservation and the importance of protecting marine biodiversity – fostering greater awareness of ocean health and encouraging responsible travel. Beyond turtle rehabilitation, Jumeirah has been expanding its marine conservation initiatives through coral restoration efforts – one of several projects under the 'Planet' pillar of its sustainability strategy. A new coral nursery at the Turtle Lagoon in Jumeirah Al Naseem is now visible to guests and incorporated into daily educational experiences. In collaboration with ecosystem restoration specialists Ocean Revive, the team is researching and testing new technologies to grow and reintroduce corals into the sea. So far over 1,400 fragments have been created, with over 300 already translocated to the sea. In addition, Jumeirah continues to support DUBAI REEF – a pioneering purpose-built reef development and one of the largest in the world – which aims to increase marine biodiversity and protect the emirate's coastal ecosystems. Reflecting Dubai's commitment to marine conservation, the three-year initiative will see over 20,000 reef modules deployed across 600 square kilometres to restore marine habitats and support the growth of indigenous corals, thereby enhancing marine life. As part of this initiative, Jumeirah is contributing through coral fragmentation work at the turtle lagoon at Jumeirah Al Naseem, where small coral fragments – known as 'frags' – are attached to circular discs, often called 'coral cookies', providing a stable base for growth and easy handling. To date, more than 3,000 coral fragments have been created through this process, contributing to the initiative's broader goal to help repopulate and strengthen local reef systems. Jumeirah's commitment to marine preservation extends across its global portfolio, with impactful initiatives at its resorts in Tanzania and the Maldives. At Jumeirah Thanda Island, the team partners with local NGOs Marine Megafauna Foundation (MMF) and Sea Sense to protect whale sharks and endangered turtles and engage local communities through education and conservation training. In the Maldives, guests at Jumeirah Olhahali Island actively contribute to reef restoration to help regenerate the vibrant marine habitats that surround the resort. These interconnected efforts reflect Jumeirah's wider sustainability vision, grounded in the principles of people, planet and responsible governance. With every turtle released, coral fragment planted, and guest educated, the brand reaffirms its mission to preserve the marine ecosystems that surround its hotels and resorts. Boeing's tryst with troubles
Whistleblowers' pitch Boeing stands apart in corporate history for a series of whistleblower allegations on safety compromises. Among them is engineer Sam Salehpour, who alleged critical structural flaws in the Dreamliner's fuselage. His testimony painted a picture of a broken safety culture where truth-tellers face systematic retaliation - ignored, marginalised, and even threatened into silence. Salehpour alleged that improper assembly and rushed manufacturing practices could pose a catastrophic risk over time, especially as these jets age. In a complaint filed with the FAA in January 2024, Salehpour claimed that Boeing took production shortcuts that could pose long-term safety risks as the aircraft age. He estimated that the issues affect more than 400 Boeing 777s and over 1,000 Dreamliners. One of his important claims is that tiny gaps between fuselage sections are improperly filled and this could eventually lead to fatigue cracks. 'These planes are being flown with a ticking time bomb,' Salehpour warned. The Air India crash also brings a renewed focus on John Barnett, a former quality manager and Boeing whistleblower who flagged safety lapses in the Dreamliner programme before his mysterious death last year. Joshua Dean, a Boeing whistleblower who warned of manufacturing defects in the planemaker's 737 Max, died after a short illness, the second Boeing whistleblower to die this year. A long timer at Boeing, Barnett raised red flags about what he described was a steady decline in safety protocols. According to him, employees were being pressured to overlook defects and meet production quotas. Barnett also claimed that about one in four oxygen masks might not work in an emergency. Richard Cuevas, a subcontractor mechanic who worked on Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, alleged last year that he was retaliated against after raising concerns about work he observed on the plane. He alleged 'substandard manufacturing and maintenance practices' on the 787's forward pressure bulkhead—a dome shaped piece located in the jet's nose that's critical to maintaining cabin pressure. Then there is Ed Pierson - the ex-high-level Boeing manager-turned-whistleblower, who testified before the US Congress in 2019 that he had flagged safety issues with the company's 737 Max variant. These cases highlight persistent concerns over Boeing's safety culture, with whistleblowers paying a heavy price for speaking out. As investigations continue, the aviation industry faces urgent questions about accountability and passenger safety.

Toyota future models 2025-2035 (part 1)
Having the largest model array of any brand means that Toyota is also planning and spending on a grand scale. Its range of vehicles available in the Japanese, US, Chinese and European markets is vast. This first of two reports looks at highlights of the global line-up and what should replace them, along with certain potential additions. A tiny player in teeny cars, Toyota competes in Japan's Kei segment with the aged Pixis series plus the Copen GR Sport. Volume is so small that it would not be surprising if Daihatsu has no plans to supply new equivalents when it replaces the originals. Even smaller than the Japanese market minis is a future rival for the Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks and Fiat Topolino. Previewed by the FT-Me at a special event in Toyota Motor Europe's HQ city of Brussels three months ago, the prototype was 2.5 m long. Production numbers would not be large. As for where it would be manufactured, TME is not saying (Stellantis builds its triplets in low-cost Morocco). A longer nose for the Aygo X: bigger engine coming One size up, namely the European A segment, could not be more of a contrast. The Aygo X is a big deal and plays a major part in keeping its maker the regional number two brand. The little hatchback is to be facelifted later this year, while the base 1.0-litre engine will be replaced by a hybrid powertrain. A successor should arrive in 2028 and again built at the Kolin factory in the Czech Republic. Big in Japan and again, Europe too, the Yaris and Yaris Cross are huge sellers. The first of these two was revealed in 2019 so the replacement will debut by 2026. Edgy styling has worked well for the hatchback and that will surely also feature next time around. The Cross should therefore gain a radical look when it is rebodied in 2027. Corolla & Camry: still big in the PRC and the USA Why the current E210 series Corolla has reached seven years of production is perplexing. Certainly the car sells incredibly well, especially in the USA though China and Europe are other major markets. TMC has gambled that it could extend the life of E210 and this has (so far) paid off but a new model cannot now be far away. Facelifted for the 2025 model year in April 2024, the Camry remains a big seller in North America. There is a lot of demand for sedans of this size in the USA, as Kia, for example, has been discovering. The K5 has gone from just over 9,000 sales during the first five months of 2024 to just shy of 29,000 in 2025 (quite the contrast to what's happening with its EV6 and EV9). Sedans of this size also do incredibly well in China; the Camry and Accord especially. Many were stunned by TMC's decision to break with the tradition of introducing a new model every five to six years, the XV80 series car being merely a restyle of XV70 which debuted in 2017. For this reason, a truly fresh Camry might appear as soon as 2026 or 2027, possibly bringing with it an EV option for the first time. Gazoo Racing: MR-2 and Celica returning? A revival of the Celica is also planned for next year or 2027, the car differing greatly from what Honda is planning for its Prelude reprise. Several generations of these models were once competitors. Whereas the latter is to be a hybrid, the Toyota should instead be powered by G20E. A high-output 2.0-litre turbo, this engine premiered at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January. Motorsports being fundamental to the Gazoo Racing sub-brand, TMC may even return to world championship rallying with the Celica. Meanwhile, G20E should also feature in a new MR-2, the mid-engined sports car being expected to debut in 2028. Will there also be a new 86? Apparently yes, is the surprising answer. While the USA continues to be the present model's number one market, even there, only around 11,000 were sold in 2024. The timing of any follow-up is yet to be confirmed. Given how few of its own variant have been produced, it would be surprising if Subaru was again involved. Yet that raises the question of a production plant, not to mention engine, gearbox and platform. A new Supra: really? As with the Hachi Roku, it seems strange to think that a case could be made for another Supra but it seems that there will indeed be one. Akio Toyoda is especially keen to continue making GR-branded models, linking them to the company's racing activities. Even though Supra production is about to end, a 'V8 Supracar' will be entered in Australia's much-watched V8 Supercars series next year. A full-size model was revealed at the famous Bathurst race last October with a working prototype surely certain to be revealed at this year's event. But what will power it, and what will be the basis of the next production model? A possible future Supra might have a Lexus (or BMW) V8 rather than a BMW straight-six turbo. There are even whispers of TMC potentially tapping Mazda for both platform and engine. It is worth noting however, that no camouflaged cars have been seen testing in Japan or elsewhere. Half the size of BYD in China but still a big player Number four behind BYD, VW and Geely, Toyota remains a major force in China. With more than half a million locally manufactured passenger vehicles delivered year to date, the brand is way ahead of next placed Wuling. Unusually, four models all do a fairly similar amount of sales volume, these being the Camry, Corolla and RAV4, along with the Front Lander, a special vehicle for the PRC. Relatively weak in EVs, Toyota is nonetheless catching up fast: in only its second month on the market, deliveries of the new bZ3X exceeded 6,000 units. This low-priced electric 4.6 m long SUV is a JV with GAC, whereas its bZ3C crossover brother is part of a three-way alliance with FAW and BYD. The life cycles of both models should be six-seven years so a next generation bZ3X would be due in 2031/2032 after a facelift in 2028 or 2029. Will a big electric sedan do better than China's VW ID.7? Another EV in the bZ series is coming in 2026. Developed specifically for China by GAC-Toyota, the bZ7 will be a large sedan. A 5m+ long prototype debuted at Auto Shanghai in April. This model will be positioned above the bZ5, production of which has just commenced in Tianjin. The platform is eTNGA. A six-year lifecycle can be presumed so a facelift is due in mid-2028. FAW-Toyota developed the bZ5, premiering it at Auto Shanghai in April. The 4,780 mm long electric SUV evolved out of the bZ3C and bZ Sport Crossover concept prototypes. It features a 200 kW motor along with (BYD-owned) FinDreams 65 kW and 74 kWh Blade batteries. Sales are off to an especially strong start, helped greatly by pricing which commences below 130,000 yuan or circa 18,000 US dollars. Hydrogen fuel cells & Solid-state batteries TMC refuses to give up on hydrogen. The current Mirai has been greatly admired though for all the usual reasons with fuel cell vehicles, production ticks along fairly slowly. A replacement is coming in 2028, part of a venture with BMW AG. All-Solid-State-Batteries are also another fledgling technology which continues to be worked on quietly. TMC does not see itself selling tens of thousands of ASSB-equipped EVs annually until the 2030s. The company continues to work with Idemitsu Kosan, an oil refiner, in developing such cells packs, initially for the Japanese and Chinese markets. Houston LASIK & Eye Launches EVO ICL: The Latest Innovation for Patients with Thin Corneas
Houston, June 11, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Houston, Texas - HOUSTON, TX – Houston LASIK & Eye, a globally recognized center for laser vision correction, is proud to announce the addition of EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) to its comprehensive selection of vision correction solutions. This revolutionary technology offers new hope for patients with thin corneas, severe refractive errors, and dry eye who previously were not candidates for traditional procedures like LASIK. Unlike LASIK, which reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, EVO ICL involves implanting a biocompatible, collagen-based lens between the iris and the natural lens through a tiny incision. This procedure preserves the corneal tissue while delivering exceptional visual outcomes, representing a notable advancement in vision correction technology. "We're thrilled to bring EVO ICL to our patients in Houston and beyond," said Dr. Amjad Khokhar, Medical Director at Houston LASIK & Eye. "This technology combines the long-term results of LASIK with the removability of contact lenses, offering an ideal solution for patients with thin corneas or chronic dry eyes who weren't candidates for traditional laser eye surgery." The EVO ICL procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete and often provides immediate vision improvement. The lens is designed to treat astigmatism from 1.0 to 4.0 diopters and nearsightedness ranging from -3.00 to -20.00 diopters. Additionally, the implant offers UV protection and reduced glare, enhancing overall visual quality. With over 2 million lenses successfully distributed worldwide and a remarkable 99% patient satisfaction rate, this technology has proven its effectiveness across diverse patient populations. The procedure itself is remarkably straightforward; after administering a topical anesthetic, your eye surgeon creates a small incision and injects the folded lens through a specialized cartridge, where it naturally unfolds to fit seamlessly in your eye. Key benefits of EVO ICL include: sharp, clear, high-definition vision, excellent night vision capabilities, no exacerbation of dry eye syndrome, rapid recovery with minimal downtime, preservation of corneal tissue, removability if needed, and built-in UV protection. Houston LASIK & Eye's adoption of EVO ICL technology aligns with its commitment to providing cutting-edge vision correction solutions. Founded in 2005 by Dr. Khokhar, the practice has established itself as a leader in ophthalmological care, attracting patients from across the United States and internationally. The center's reputation for excellence has drawn patients from every continent except Antarctica, cementing its status as a premier global destination for vision correction. Houston LASIK & Eye offers a comprehensive range of ophthalmological services, including LASIK, EVO ICL, and treatments for various eye conditions. With state-of-the-art technology and a commitment to personalized care, the practice has become a destination for patients seeking premium vision correction services. "At Houston LASIK & Eye, we believe everyone deserves access to high-quality, technologically advanced eye care," added Dr. Khokhar. "With the addition of EVO ICL, we can now help even more patients achieve freedom from glasses and contacts, regardless of corneal thickness." The best candidates for EVO ICL are individuals between 21 and 45 years old with no history of serious eye conditions or previous ophthalmic surgery. Houston LASIK & Eye offers complimentary consultations to determine candidacy for this procedure. With locations in Houston, Sugar Land, and Pearland, Houston LASIK & Eye continues to expand its services while maintaining its commitment to personalized care, advanced technology, and exceptional outcomes.
