Plans for 'healthy food' takeaway at Gwent leisure centre
IN a bid to combat obesity levels plans for a health food takeaway to be sited at a Blaenau Gwent leisure centre have been lodged with county planners. Carley Mitchell has submitted a proposal to change the use of a patch of land to the south of Abertillery Leisure centre so that shipping container can be placed there and transformed into a catering cabin. Planning agent Paul Parsons of Creation design Wales explained the proposal in a planning statement. Mr Parsons said: 'The applicant is a social enterprise set to help address the issues of childhood obesity. 'The kitchen will provide the healthy alternative to junk food. 'Meals such as chicken and rice, protein breakfasts, oats, protein desserts, salads, sandwiches, fruit, coffee, smoothies and a specials board will be freshly prepared daily. 'Nothing will be fried, and all will be baked and cooked via a hot plate.' Mr Parsons points out that the leisure has 'no food facilities' at present and that the takeaway would be 'very much required' by people who use the centre as well as others who want a healthy nutritional meal 'at an affordable price.' Mr Parsons said: 'There are an abundance of families struggling in the area financially therefore I (the applicant) will be pledging a set number of free meals weekly to those in need and also will run a pay it forward scheme where customers can buy menu items and offer food items back out via a ticket system for those in need of a meal or a beverage.' The proposal will create at least one job, and Mr Parsons claims that it will provide work for 'possibly' two more people. Mr Parsons said: 'The applicant is passionate about supporting this as I feel our leisure facilities are extremely important for the community. 'It is a hub where all our physical, mental and emotional needs are met and supported.' According to the submitted documents the takeaway would be open between 8am and 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays. A decision on the application is expected by August 12.

Loaded Gyūdon & teriyaki chicken rice from $5.90 at Serangoon Central bubble tea stall
A little birdy told me to go check out a Gyūdon kiosk tucked away at 262 Central. It got me thinking, 'A Japanese takeaway kiosk within the heartlands?' Now, you don't see that everyday.' So, with her directions in tow, I made my way toward the post office and there it was: Gyudon Moo, decked out in light wooden tones. Blink and you might miss it — I actually walked past it twice without even noticing it was there. Here's a tip, look out for the fruit stand that sells durians — the 2 stalls are right across from each other (just look at the sliced watermelon in the picture above). If you take a closer look, you'll notice that it also sells bubble tea and other beverages. Previously, the stall operated under the brand Fala Fala for about a year. They'd only just started serving food the week before I visited. The signboard's illustrations brought to mind Yoshinoya's offerings, which has a branch conveniently located just a stone's throw away at NEX. Would I rather pay S$6 for a small Gyūdon that comes with miso soup at Yoshinoya, or will the Signature Beef Rice Set (S$5.90/S$6.90) over here be better? That was until I spotted the Signature Beef Rice Set Combo (S$7.90/S$8.90). My small S$7.90 portion comes with red ginger slices and a choice between Fresh Squeezed Lemon Tea and Classic Milk Tea. Since the regular Fresh Squeezed Lemon Tea on its own is S$4.80, I'd be able to save S$2.80. For the price, I must say that the portion of the beef slices was quite generous. It also comes with a soft-boiled egg, slivers of onion and of course, rice. Taste-wise, it was great and didn't disappoint. I also gave the Chicken Rice Set (S$7.90/S$8.90) a go, and selected the Classic Milk Tea that comes with boba. The chicken slices were fairly tender, and comes accompanied by a medley of vegetables: carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. However, the Eel Rice (S$8.60 for medium) was the star of the evening. The unagi, drizzled in teriyaki sauce, was not only delicious but also melted in the mouth. For the price, it doesn't pale in comparison to those served at more upmarket joints. If you're seeking to takeaway some comforting Japanese rice bowls, why not head down to Gyudon Moo at 262 Serangoon Central and try it for yourself? Adelaide woman makes a gross discovery while eating her Chinese hotpot takeaway
An Adelaide woman got a big surprise when she found something very unexpected at the bottom of her takeaway dinner. She had ordered a hotpot from a local takeaway shop last week and after eating about half, she planned to save the rest for lunch the next day - but ended up picking at it a bit more. That's when she noticed something strange. 'I was picking at the bottom and the container was feeling a little bit weird,' she said. 'So I kept digging and at the bottom of the container was a working phone.' She touched the screen and saw it was still on. 'I rang the place and I was like "hey I found a phone in my hotpot" and they were like "oh yeah we did have a phone missing from one of our chefs",' she said. 'They were apologising and I was like "no worries I'll bring it back". What had happened was apparently the chef put the phone down in the takeaway container and because it was black it blended in with the container. 'I paid $35 for the hotpot originally and they gave me $50 back and the chef was like "oh let me know when you're here next time and I'll give you a free hotpot".' She wouldn't name the fast food store 'because they're a very well-established business and I don't want to bring them down over a single mistake'. Thankfully since she lived nearby, she didn't need to reheat the meal when she got home. Putting a phone in a microwave is extremely dangerous and can cause a fire, damage the phone and the microwave, and potentially release harmful vapors. Aussies online praised her for not naming and shaming the business. 'Dinner with a side of phone,' one person said. 'It's really sweet of you to not making a bigger deal but glad that in the end everything worked out and you will get free hotpot,' another said.
