Trooper suffers minor injuries after getting shot in Saline County; MSHP investigating officer-involved shooting

(KMIZ) The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A announced in a Tuesday evening social media post that the MSHP Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Saline County. The trooper was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries and has since been released. According to a MSHP press release, just after 6:15 p.m., troopers were notified that the Concordia Police Department was pursuing a motorcycle driven by a suspect wanted for an out-of-state homicide. Officers lost sight of the suspect, but just before 8 p.m., Highway Patrol troopers in the area saw the suspect on 115th Rd. heading toward Belmont Ave. The suspect crashed the motorcycle into a trooper's patrol car near the intersection of 115th Rd. and Belmont Ave., running away on foot. The trooper ran after the suspect, who was armed with a handgun. The suspect shot at the trooper, hitting the trooper's bullet-resistant vest. The trooper returned fire, shooting the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the troopers and the suspect involved were not immediately available. Mounties in Nanaimo are asking the public for help identifying a robbery suspect caught on camera early Wednesday morning. (Nanaimo RCMP) Mounties in Nanaimo are asking the public for help identifying a robbery suspect caught on camera early Wednesday morning. The man in the surveillance photos is believed to have robbed the Gas N Go at 2199 Trans Canada Hwy., near the intersection of Morden Road and Highway 1 around 3:40 a.m., Nanaimo RCMP said in a news release Thursday. According to police, the suspect 'walked into the business brandishing a knife.' An employee handed over 'an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise,' and the man fled, police added. Mounties described the suspect as a man with 'a thin build' who stands 5′10″ to 6′ tall. 'Based on the pictures provided, he is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s,' the release reads. 'During the robbery, the individual wore a blue T-shirt, dark pants, striped runners, black ball cap and dark rimmed glasses. His face was partially concealed with a white cloth wrapped around it.' Anyone who has information about the robbery or saw anything suspicious before or after it is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345. Investigators are also looking for dash cam video recorded in the area between 3:30 and 4 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

House search in Annie McCarrick murder investigation continues
The search for the remains of murdered Annie McCarrick , who disappeared in south Dublin in 1993, has continued into a second week. Gardaí are determined to definitively rule out a Dublin property as a possible burial site. The dig operation is taking place on the grounds of a house in Clondalkin that was previously linked to the suspect. It has involved significant excavation work to the rear of the property. The house has been renovated and extended since it was purchased about 15 years ago by its current owners, who have no connection to the case. Gardaí have used mini diggers, Kango hammers and other machinery to excavate a section that has been built on in the period since Ms McCarrick disappeared. READ MORE Gardaí are acting on a tip-off that something related to the case - either Ms McCarrick's remains or other evidence - may have been buried there in the 1990s. Ms McCarrick, who was from New York, was 26 when she went missing and had been living in Sandymount, south Dublin. A cadaver dog, believed to be the same animal that found Tina Satchwell's remains buried under her home in Youghal, Co Cork, in 2023, has been used to check the site in the event Ms McCarrick's body was there. The people who currently own the home have moved out pending the completion of the search. The Irish Times has made efforts to contact the chief suspect for Ms McCarrick's murder since his release, without charge , from Garda custody last Friday. However, nobody appeared to be at his home in the east of the country on Thursday and calls also went unanswered. A wealthy businessman in his 60s, he was arrested last Thursday morning on suspicion of Ms McCarrick's murder and his home was searched. It was the first arrest in the inquiry, which has continued for more than 32 years. The man was interviewed for the maximum 24 hours allowed under law and was then released from Irishtown Garda station in Dublin's south inner city, pending further investigations. The suspect denies any wrongdoing and, as he faces no charges, there are no restrictions on his movements and no requirement for him to surrender his passport. The man knew Ms McCarrick well from her time studying and working in Dublin and Kildare from the late 1980s into the 1990s. They were close at one point and he was spoken to, along with many others who knew Ms McCarrick, around the time she disappeared. She was seen by her flatmates in her rented accommodation at St Cathryn's Court, Sandymount, on the morning of March 26th, 1993. When she failed to show up for work over the following two days and did not keep a dinner date with friends the evening after her last confirmed sighting, they became concerned and reported her missing on March 28th. There were reported sightings of her on the day she disappeared. These were in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow and in Glencullen, Co Dublin. They have since been discounted. Gardaí believe Ms McCarrick was killed in south Dublin, or at least met her killer close to her home, and that she was murdered and her body disposed of by the time the alarm was raised. She was said to have told US-based friends that the man arrested last week was harassing her just before she disappeared and that he had struck her when he was drinking. Those concerns were passed on to gardaí in 1993, though Ms McCarrick's friends do not believe they were acted on.

Woman charged with robbing girl, 9, on bicycle in Thompson
A nine-year-old girl in Thompson, Man., was saved from an attempted robbery earlier this week by a bystander who chased the would-be robber away, police say. A 22-year-old woman allegedly approached the girl on Thompson Drive at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The woman asked the nine-year-old, who was on a bicycle at the time, for a bag of food she was carrying. A bystander intervened, chased the woman away and took the girl to safety, according to an RCMP news release on Thursday. The girl sustained minor injuries but didn't require immediate medical attention. Mounties managed to track down the suspect based on descriptions provided by the girl and bystander. The woman has been charged with robbery, causing a disturbance and two counts of resisting arrest, RCMP said. She remains in custody. The investigation continues.

Woman charged, suspect sought in Pickering fire police now deem homicide
A woman has been charged and another suspect is being sought in relation to a fatal Pickering house fire that police are now deeming a homicide. Around 2:20 p.m. on June 11, police responded to a house fire in the area of Primrose Court and Fairport Road, according to a Thursday release from Durham police. A 69-year-old woman was located dead inside the residence. Following a post-mortem, Durham police's homicide unit took over the investigation. Police now say the death was the Durham region's third homicide of 2025. On Tuesday, a 34-year-old Pickering woman was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder, police say. She was held for a bail hearing. Police say they have identified another suspect, who remains outstanding, in the ongoing investigation. Investigators say they believe the incident was isolated and there is no threat to public safety. Anyone with more information is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
