IPOH, June 20 — The mother-in-law of Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, died in a fire that broke out at a two-storey house on Jalan Raja Abdullah, Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan here last night. Bernama reported Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Sayani Saidon confirming the incident, stating that the deceased has been identified as 84-year-old Salmiah Nyak Matt. Her husband, Abdul Ghani Ngah, is currently receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB). 'The deceased is the mother-in-law (of Hamzah),' she said briefly via WhatsApp. Sayani added that four other individuals were involved in the incident — three men and one woman. 'One of the victims, an 83-year-old elderly man who was in an upstairs room, suffered breathing difficulties and was taken to hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS),' she said. She added that the operation concluded at 2.02am. Meanwhile, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said authorities received an emergency call about the fire at 9.19pm. Preliminary investigations conducted with the Fire Department's forensic unit confirmed that the blaze involved a two-storey house occupied by a family of six. 'Four other family members, aged between 18 and 49, were rescued and did not sustain any injuries,' he said. Abang Zainal Abidin added that further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, and the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR). He also urged members of the public with any information to contact the Ipoh District Control Centre (DCC) at 05-2542222.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — The body of a woman believed to be a schoolteacher was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition at her home in Bandar Selesa Jaya in Iskandar Puteri in Johor, after neighbours alerted authorities to a foul smell. Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan said the discovery was made at 8.06pm on June 12 after a neighbour reported a strong odour coming from the 39-year-old woman's residence, Buletin TV3 reported today. 'She is believed to have died about a month ago. Investigations revealed that she had not reported for work since September 24 last year,' he said. A post-mortem was unable to determine the cause of death due to the advanced stage of decomposition. However, police found no signs of foul play. 'The case has been classified as sudden death, with no criminal elements detected,' he added. The woman, who was unmarried, was a teacher at a school in Taman Tunku Aminah and had been living alone. Police are currently trying to locate her next of kin.

SERDANG, June 17 — A 26-year-old Thai woman was found dead in front of a shop at the Puchong Utama Industrial Park here on Sunday. Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said medical personnel at the scene confirmed the woman's death. 'The victim's body was sent to the Forensic Department at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death. 'The police are currently working to trace her next of kin,' he said in a statement today. Muhamad Farid added that a preliminary forensic examination found no criminal elements involved, and the case has been classified as a sudden death. He urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation while advising against any speculation regarding the case.
