Eufy's new smart display keeps an eye on your security cams

Eufy is launching its first portable smart display, designed to allow multiple users to control and monitor security devices from a single hub. The Smart Display E10 is capable of displaying up to four live camera feeds simultaneously and can be paired with the company's AI-supported video doorbells, smart locks, or the Homebase S380 data hub to unlock live notification and facial recognition features. The technical specifications for the E10 largely match those in a leaked brochure shared to Reddit in May, before Eufy's parent company Anker had even announced the display hub. It features an 8-inch HD touchscreen and a 4,050mAh battery that Eufy says will last 'more than 24 hours on a single charge.' It comes with a charging station and a wall stand, allowing it to be positioned around the home or carried from room to room. For networking, the E10 supports local area network (LAN) connections and dual-band Wi-Fi 6. When paired with the Homebase S380 data hub, the E10 can generate a summary of events captured by cameras and security devices twice a day, a 'Sunrise Summary' in the morning and a 'Twilight Recap' in the evening. These summaries combine Eufy's AI facial and package recognition features with stitched video clips to recap activities like package deliveries. A live feed from one of Eufy's smart doorbells or door locks will also automatically appear on the E10 when motion is detected or within three seconds of someone pressing the doorbell, with the name of the visitor displayed if their face is recognized. The E10 will be available on Amazon and Eufy's webstore for $199.99 starting on June 30th, with presales starting today. The Verge asked Eufy to confirm if the E10 will work with cameras, doorbells, and other smart home security devices manufactured by third-party companies but hasn't received a reply yet.

Your Android phone could soon be getting a feature to rival one of the iPhone's smartest tricks

Referential image of Pixel Tablet as a Google Home hub. | Image credit — PhoneArena Android phones might soon get a feature that's been a favorite on iPhones for a while now. If you've seen Standby Mode on iOS, you know what it looks like: when the phone is charging and placed sideways, it turns into a mini smart display. You get a big clock, photo slideshows, widgets, or even live updates, all on your screen. Now, Google seems to be working on something similar for first clue came from a recent Google Play Services update. In version 25.18, Google added a line to the code about a new feature that lets users "use Cast on standby-friendly devices." What was notable about that is that it was specifically marked for phones. That suggests Google is thinking about making phones work more like smart displays when they're idle and charging. Right now, Android phones can't act as Cast receivers the way some tablets and smart displays can. But the only real things stopping this are software limitations, not hardware ones. However, that might be changing soon. iOS standby mode. | Image credit — PhoneArena There's also a shift happening in charging tech that could make all this possible. Qi2 wireless charging is starting to roll out, and it includes magnetic alignment, similar to Apple's MagSafe. That makes it easier to charge phones in landscape mode, which is key for any sort of smart display experience. On the software side, Android 16 is expected to bring back lock screen widgets in its first big update, known as QPR1. Google confirmed that these widgets are part of Hub Mode, which is now being optimized for phones. So when a phone is docked and charging, it could soon show a combination of clocks, photos, and widgets, just like Standby Mode on iPhone. However, even more evidence came from a deeper look into Android 16 's code. There's a new "Standby" button found in the power menu, and it appears to launch the screen saver and lock screen widgets at the same time. That ties everything together. Nothing is official yet, but all signs suggest that Android is on track to get its own version of Standby Mode. Between new charging standards and upcoming Android updates, your phone might soon double as a smart display while it charges. This is definitely an exciting development that I hope arrives sooner than later. I can definitely see myself putting my Pixel in standby mode while working or sleeping.

Leaked document reveals more about Eufy's first smart display

Andrew Liszewski is a senior reporter who's been covering and reviewing the latest gadgets and tech since 2006, but has loved all things electronic since he was a kid. A brochure shared on Reddit provides new details on Eufy's first smart display. The Eufy Smart Display E10 hasn't been officially announced by Anker yet, but it's already received FCC certification and was recently demonstrated at a private event in New York. The smart display's manual has also leaked. According to the brochure, the Smart Display E10 features an eight-inch touchscreen with an HD resolution. It includes a charging station dock that draws power over USB-C, but the smart display also has a 5,000mAh battery that Eufy says will last up to 24 hours. You can carry it from room to room to keep an eye on what's happening around your house or mount it to a wall in your home. The E10 can simultaneously display up to four live camera feeds and prioritizes feeds where motion has been detected. A live feed from one of Eufy's smart doorbells or door locks will also automatically pop up when someone presses the doorbell, with their presence and name being announced if their face is recognized. The E10 will also provide daily summaries of all the activities it detected, including who may have stopped by and whether or not they dropped off packages. You can use a timeline view to navigate all the videos saved throughout the day. You don't need to pay for a cloud storage subscription. The E10 comes with 8GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded using a microSD slot, for saving video clips locally. Other features include a microphone and speaker allowing you to communicate with people at your door through Eufy's smart locks and doorbells, and a time of flight sensor for potentially detecting when a person approaches the display. There's also a dedicated SOS button and, while the brochure doesn't detail its exact function, a video captured during the recent Eufy event shows that holding the button for three seconds triggers cameras to sound an alarm, if they support that feature. It's unclear how much the Eufy Smart Display E10 will cost or when it will be released. We also don't yet know if it will support cameras, doorbells, or camera-equipped smart home devices from other companies.
