Blueair Blue Max 3250i review: This air purifier clears a smoky room in an hour
This article contains affiliate links. The products or services listed have been selected independently by journalists after hands-on testing or sourcing expert opinions. We may earn a commission when you click a link, buy a product or subscribe to a service. What is the Blueair Blue Max 3250i? The Blueair Blue Max 3250i is a best-selling smart air purifier that we awarded Best Buy in our test of the best air purifiers. It's easy to operate, has an eye-catching design and low noise noise levels. It is highly effective at clearing the air of unwanted particles such as dust, smoke and pollen, and of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the gases emitted into the air from common household items such as paint, candles and glue. It's easy to use - there's no fiddling with a filter before it's ready to be switched on - and the connecting smartphone app allows you to control the air purifier remotely. It even lets you turn the air purifier on 15 minutes before you arrive home. At £169, this is one of the cheaper air purifiers on the market but in our real-world tests it proved just as effective as models more than twice the price. It's designed for rooms of around 20 sq m, but can handle up to 48 sq m, making it adept at clearing the air in bedrooms and larger living rooms alike. Should you need something bigger, there are two more models in the range, the 3350i Max and the 3450i Max. Read on to find out how it performed in our air quality tests. JUMP TO How we test air purifiers We independently test products in real homes to reflect how you will use them. Our tests include those to find the best fan, best dehumidifier, best humidifier and best value air purifier. For the air purifier tests, each device is set up out of the box and then run for one hour on its medium setting (or auto setting if there are no controls over air filtration speed). Each model is given a score out of 10 across five metrics: air quality improvement, ease of use, design, noise and value. We look at: Air quality testing: we use an air quality monitor to measure the rate of small pollutant particles (commonly called PM2.5 and PM10), VOCs, and formaldehyde in the room before and after testing, and record any change in the overall air quality indicator (AQI) score. Noise levels: we use a decibel (dB) monitor app to check the noise of the air purifier in operation against ambient sound in the room. We record the loudest noise on max power and the quietest on its lowest setting. Value for money: this is based on a combination of the initial cost, the price of replacement filters and how frequently filters need replacing, and its energy use per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which we measure using a smart plug. For the Blueair Blue Max 3250i, we also tested how easy it was to connect to and use the app and how it performed in different rooms around the home. All opinions are based on independent expert opinion and our hands-on testing. Visit our Who We Are page to learn more. Air quality improvement Score: 9/10 We tested the Blueair Blue Max 3250i in a room where scented candles had previously been burning (which can emit both unwanted particles and VOCs) and pollutant levels were high. Over the space of an hour, the air purifier reduced the levels of tiny airborne particles (both the smaller PM2.5 and bigger PM10) by 98 and 99 per cent respectively. Unlike many of the other air purifiers I tested, it also reduced the amount of chemicals in the air (VOCs) by 65 per cent. Although I would have liked to see a bigger reduction, this Blueair is one of the most effective air purifiers I tested at lowering VOCs. Overall the air quality indicator (AQI) score improved from an unhealthy 152 to an excellent score of just four, an improvement of 97 per cent. No other air purifier I tested saw such improvements in a real-world setting, including far more expensive models. Ease of use This was the easiest air purifier to set up out of all those I tried out: you simply take it out of the box, plug it in and press start without any need to install a filter. There are two buttons at the top of the air purifier to turn it on and off and switch between modes, while the dimmable light on the front of the device changes colour to indicate the air quality of the room you're in. I also liked that the controls had a child lock. Although the box has a QR code on it that is supposed to link to the app, it didn't work. But it came up immediately when I searched for 'Blueair' in the App Store and it was easy to use. The app works as a remote control for the air purifier and lets you set a schedule and even turn it on and off when you're out of the house. Changing the filter is straightforward but pulling the fabric cover back into position can be a little awkward. The device itself is fairly lightweight so it's easy to move between rooms, though a carry handle would make it much easier. Design Score: 9/10 I particularly liked how the Blueair Blue Max 3250i fitted into a room aesthetically. Many other air purifiers I tested simply look functional and often have an unattractive white plastic casing, but on this device, the filter area is covered by classy grey fabric that means it can blend in with the decor of a room. The indicator light on the front of the device changes colour to show the air quality of the room at any given time, and is more subtle and less flashy than many of the other devices I tried out. And while the Blueair app is a great way of controlling the air purifier remotely, it is also easy to use the touch sensitive buttons on top of the device. Noise Score: 9/10 This device uses 'HEPASilent' technology developed by Blueair, which is a HEPA filter designed to be quiet, and it really works. On its quietest setting (night mode), the noise was barely above ambient and registered at 32dB in my tests, which was just above the ambient noise in the room of 28dB. It reached 62dB on its highest setting, which is about the level of a normal conversation, but you rarely need to set it this high. It is quiet and efficient in its 'auto' mode. Score: 9/10 The Blueair Blue Max 3250i is more efficient and better designed than some air purifiers more than twice its price of £169. The filters need changing every six to nine months depending on how often you use it. Replacement filters cost £35 and can be bought on Amazon, which puts its total running costs at £204 for its first year of use. It's higher than the more budget air purifiers from Philips or Midea but still less than half the price of high end brands like Dyson and Molekule. It's also energy efficient, using just 0.006kWh of energy when run on a medium fan speed for an hour. That means leaving it on continuously for 24 hours would cost around four pence in electricity, based on the current cost of 27 pence per kWh. On the more routine 'auto' setting, it would use even less energy. Technical specifications We compared the Blueair Blue Max 3250i with the premium Dyson Cool PC1 Air Purifier on performance, noise and value. Should you buy the Blueair Blue Max 3250i? The Blueair Blue Max 3250i is an affordable and extremely effective air purifier under £200, with impressive performance across multiple air quality indicators, an easy-to-use design and low noise levels. Yes, if: You want an air purifier that removes VOCs and unwanted particles from the air in your home. You want an easy-to-use smart air purifier you can control remotely and fits in with your decor. No, if: You need an air purifier for a space larger than 48 sq m. You want detailed air quality monitoring data. Blueair Blue Max 3250i FAQs Is the Blueair Blue Max 3250i good for allergies? Yes, it effectively removes airborne particles, including PM2.5 particles which make it a good air purifier for allergies. How often do I need to change the filter? This is an air purifier with a HEPA filter, called 'HEPASilent'. You will need to change it every six to nine months, depending on how much you use it. How loud is it? It ranges from 32dB on night mode (which is just above ambient noise) to 62dB at full power, making it a quiet air purifier to use. Does the Blue Max 3250i remove pet odours? We found it left rooms smelling clean and fresh. What size room is the Blueair 3250i suitable for? It is recommended for rooms around 20 sq mbut effective up to 48 sq m.

I Found the Perfect Device to Stop Water Damage from Leaks
Home leaks are always bad news. They're sneaky, frustrating and often expensive to fix, especially if you don't catch them in time. That's where one cheap, severely underrated smart home device comes to the rescue. When I asked SwitchBot about their app-connected leak detector I was testing, their spokesperson mentioned, "Leak detectors offer peace of mind, ensuring you are alerted to leaks even when you are away from home or on vacation, preventing potential damage to your property and neighboring properties. They also provide notifications during the night for leaks in unseen areas, reducing the risk of electrical short circuits and the associated dangers." From overflowing air conditioners in summer to frozen, cracked valves in winter, I've seen my share of leak problems. Here's how leak detectors are fixing those issues before they start. Read more: 7 Types of Houses You Should Never Buy, According to a Real Estate Pro Where can you put a leak detector? Leak detectors, especially battery models, can go nearly anywhere. Eufy Leak detectors offer great versatility. Some designs require a nearby plug-in hub, but the sensors themselves are typically battery-powered and can last for years on their own. You can put them in all kinds of places, including: Under kitchen and bathroom sinks to catch leaky pipes In crawlspaces under pipes that might freeze Behind the washing machine or somewhere nearby in the laundry room Behind toilets that could overflow Beside water heaters Behind the dishwasher and refrigerator (depending on your installation) Beside a sump pump that could overflow Beside fountains and other indoor water features Behind fish tanks Beside AC or dehumidifiers that could overflow Remember, many leak detectors have additional sensors you attach with a cable, so they can reach into tighter spaces for extra detection, like around toilets or below-water tanks. Also, quite a few connect to home security systems, so you can manage your security and get leak, smoke and access alerts all from the same app. Read more: Keep Your Home Dry and Safe: Flood and Water Damage Prevention Guide Our favorite home leak detectors If you aren't using a leak detector, it's worth looking at some of my favorite models. If you already have a home security system, start by seeing if your brand sells one. Most do. Here's a water leak detector for Abode, one for Vivint systems and a version for SimpliSafe. If you use an Arlo home security system, its all-purpose sensors can also detect leaks. But if you don't have a system at all, these options are the best standalone choices we've found. SwitchBot Wi-Fi leak detector SwitchBot's leak detector is affordable and very easy to manage. SwitchBot SwitchBot's water sensor is very affordable and extra-easy to set up with no hub required and very little app work necessary. I still have mine set up under the kitchen sink, in fact. Once in place, it can detect both surface leaks and drips from above. You can choose what kind of alerts to get, or if you want the sensor to emit a piercing siren instead. SwitchBot rates the battery life at two years, and with AAA battery support you'll have no problem replacing them on your own when you get battery life warnings. The sensor also works with Alexa, Google and Siri. The mix of performance and affordability makes this one of the easiest leak detectors to recommend. It's a little bulky compared to some sensors, but that isn't usually an issue for leak detectors. Eufy water and freeze sensor Eufy's leak detector pairs with its HomeBase for easy placement around the home. Eufy Eufy is an excellent solo option for people who don't have security systems but are willing to purchase a Eufy HomeBase hub for an app connection. It sports a two-year battery life and can send alerts right to your phone no matter where you are, making it the best option for vacations, rentals or time away from a house. The ability to detect freezing conditions can also help you monitor your crawlspaces or under-sink areas during winter. D-Link water sensor and starter kit D-Link's kit is an easy, versatile option for installation. D-Link D-Link bundles its small plug-in hub (which includes its own extra leak detector dongle) and water sensor device into a package that's one of the best all-purpose leak detectors we've found. It can send app alerts, sound alarms and flash a warning light to make sure leaks are noticed. The AAA batteries in the sensor model are rated up to five years. Govee water leak detector 5-pack Govee's alarm-based detectors are cheap and avoid app settings. If you don't really care about app alerts and simply want a basic detector that sounds an alarm when water starts to pool, this Govee pack can take care of all the locations in your house at an affordable price. You can adjust the 100-decibel alarm to the volume that works best for you in each location. These sensors also sense water dripping from above, so don't hesitate to put them directly under suspect pipes. Riyadh hospital pioneers AI device implant for brain stimulation
Saudi Arabia - King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh has successfully executed a groundbreaking procedure in the Middle East, implanting an advanced smart device within the brain to help manage chronic neurological disorders. This device monitors abnormal electrical activity and sends targeted electrical impulses to the affected regions, aiming to alleviate symptoms, decrease dependence on medication, and enhance patients' quality of life, independence, and health stability. This state-of-the-art innovation enables patients to better control neurological symptoms and potentially lower medication doses by as much as 50%, reducing side effects and improving daily activities- especially for those with Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and movement disorders, said the centre. The device's built-in artificial intelligence rapidly analyses brain signals to detect abnormal activity patterns and responds by providing targeted electrical stimulation to restore neural balance. This allows for highly accurate, adaptive treatment that adjusts to the patient's condition in real time without requiring continuous manual intervention from healthcare professionals. While benefits start to appear within the first few weeks post-implantation, achieving optimal results requires a fine-tuning period of one to three months, during which electrical responses are calibrated according to real-time brain signals collected by the device, it said. The procedure utilises minimally invasive methods lasting only three to five hours, avoiding large surgical cuts. This approach lessens recovery time, minimises complications, and encourages a quicker return to everyday activities. This achievement highlights KFSHRC's ongoing progress in harnessing artificial intelligence and medical innovation to provide high-precision, specialised care, meet patient needs, and shape an advanced therapeutic model for the region and beyond, the centre said.
