Try not to attach too much importance to what you are told by other people today, especially if they are the sort of people who enjoy putting other people down. If you allow minor irritations to get to you today they will divert your attention and your energy away from the issues that really matter. On the home front especially, refuse to get involved in problems you know are not really problems at all. You have been so active of late that it was inevitable that you took a few wrong turnings and made a few mistakes along the way. Avalanche shelter wins award
The avalanche shelter at the Homer Tunnel has been recognised at the Concrete Construction Awards. PHOTOS: SUPPLIED A new avalanche shelter at the eastern portal of the Homer Tunnel on State Highway 94 earned a highly commended honour for its outstanding engineering, resilience, and environmental sensitivity at the 2025 Concrete Construction Awards in Auckland last week. Commissioned by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, the project replaced an ageing structure in one of the most avalanche-prone stretches of New Zealand's state highway network. Constructed in a remote, high-risk alpine setting within Fiordland National Park — a Unesco World Heritage site — the shelter was designed to endure some of the harshest natural forces in the country. The shelter provides protection from avalanches, seismic activity and rockfalls. The judges praised the structure as an exemplary response to the complex demands of resilience and sustainability in a sensitive environmental context. The entrance/exit to the tunnel. The shelter, which was built using precast concrete, reduced time on site, lowering carbon emissions and minimising environmental disruption while "blending into the Fiordland National Park landscape". "Innovative detailing, digital modelling and cultural design integration showcased concrete's versatility in delivering infrastructure that is not only safer and stronger, but also sensitive to its surroundings." In their notes the awards panel said concrete played a pivotal role in this project — "not only for its structural and seismic resilience, but also for its low-maintenance, long-life performance". — APL

It is about $60 more expensive than the Rechargeable version, and people who already find the Rechargeable model to be too strong probably wouldn't enjoy the additional power this toy offers. The Waterproof model must also charge longer for a shorter total run time: four hours of charging for two and a half hours of play, in contrast to the three hours of charging for three hours of play with the Rechargeable version. Unlike the Magic Wand Rechargeable, the Magic Wand Waterproof is nonoperational in charging mode, so if you run out of juice in the middle of a session, you're out of luck. This was designed as a safety feature, and it's the only significant drawback we found in this toy in comparison with the Rechargeable model. Another minor drawback: A small included blue cap is intended to be plugged into the charging port when the vibrator is submerged in water. The toy is fully waterproof without the cap, which is meant to keep the port dry so that it can be safely plugged in for charging. If you're prone to losing and misplacing small objects, keeping track of this cap may prove to be an annoyance.
