Head-on collision leaves Winnipeg man dead: RCMP

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck A Winnipeg man is dead following a head-on collision between a sedan and a truck on Highway 8 in the RM of St. Andrews, Man. on Tuesday. According to police, a 67-year-old man from St-Pierre-Jolys was driving a large truck southbound on Highway 8, while a 36-year-old Winnipeg man was driving his sedan north on the highway. Mounties said the driver of the sedan 'suddenly veered into the other lane, colliding head-on with the truck.' Officers, EMS and firefighters responded to the scene around 11 a.m., where they found the sedan in the middle of the road and the truck flipped on its side in a ditch. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The highway was temporarily closed but has since been reopened. RCMP continues to investigate.

One killed in Sunday morning hit-and-run crash, Fort Worth police say
One person was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning in Fort Worth, police said. Officers responded around 4 a.m. to a major accident on Texas 121 and Beach Street. Investigators believe that an SUV was struck by an unknown vehicle, causing a sedan to then collide with the SUV, police said. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The vehicle that is believed to have initially caused the accident was not at scene when officers arrive and has not been found, police said. The Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the crash. Dump truck crashes into home in north Tarrant County, authorities say
Authorities are investigating the cause of a chain-reaction crash that ended with a dump truck slamming into a home Friday morning in north Tarrant County. CBS News Texas The accident occurred around 10:20 a.m. near the intersection of FM Road 718 and Newark Ranch Road, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. Officials said the crash involved a dump truck and a sedan. The truck plowed through the wall of a home, while the sedan came to rest on nearby train tracks. The Sheriff's Office said the dump truck driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The sedan driver and a woman inside the home also sustained minor injuries but were not transported.

Man driving stolen tow truck leads police on chase through Chicago's south suburbs, South Side
A man driving a stolen tow truck led police on a high-speed chase through the south suburbs and the city of Chicago Monday. Sauk Village police spotted the tow truck and tried to stop the driver, who sped away. The police pursuit made its way from Sauk Village north to Chicago's South Side, off the Dan Ryan Expressway at 71st and State streets, where the driver slammed into a sedan and ran from the scene. Officers found the driver about a block away, and he was arrested. The sedan he hit sustained significant damage. As of late Monday, there was no word on whether the sedan driver was hurt.

Speed, alcohol possible factors in fatal St. Paul crash, police say
Alcohol may have been a factor in a crash in St. Paul, Minnesota, that killed one man and put another in the hospital, authorities said. The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Arlington Avenue West and Dale Street North, according to the St. Paul Police Department. A speeding driver in a sedan ran a red light and hit an SUV, pushing it 40 yards, police said. The SUV's driver was extricated from his vehicle and died at the scene. The sedan driver was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. "There is indication that alcohol may have played a factor," police said. WCCO
