Budget allocations for Karachi: JI to hold protest march on 21st

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief, Munim Zafar has announced a protest march to the Sindh Assembly on 21st June while launching a scathing attack on the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), accusing them of political hypocrisy and failing to secure Karachi's rightful share in development funds despite being part of the ruling coalition at the center. Addressing at a press conference at JI's Karachi headquarters, Idara Noor-e-Haq on Tuesday, Munim Zafar said that while both parties enjoy ministries and privileges in the federal government, they have done little to address Karachi's chronic issues, including water shortages, power outages, and crumbling infrastructure. He highlighted that Karachi, despite being Pakistan's economic hub, was largely ignored in the recent federal and provincial budgets. He pointed to the K4 water supply project as a glaring example of neglect. He said the Sindh government sought Rs 40 billion for this project but only Rs 3.2 billion were allocated, calling it a deliberate betrayal of Karachi's needs. He noted the project has been stalled for 22 years and this paltry sum ensures it remains in limbo. He also criticised the PPP-led provincial government for failing to launch any new mega projects for Karachi, despite the city generating the bulk of Sindh's revenue. Munim Zafar accused the PPP of hypocrisy, citing Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab's recent complaints about the federal government ignoring the city. He questioned why the PPP doesn't use its influence in the center to push for the city's rights if it is serious about Karachi. Similarly, he slammed the MQM for using Karachi's name to win votes but doing nothing in return, noting that while both parties are quick to secure ministries and perks for themselves, they show no urgency in resolving Karachi's crises. The JI leader said the protest rally on June 21 will demand fair budget allocations for Karachi, immediate completion of the K4 water project, new infrastructure and development initiatives, and an end to political neglect of the city. He vowed that JI would continue its legal and democratic struggle for Karachi's rights and urged citizens to join the upcoming protest, declaring that it's time for real action, not empty promises. Shifting focus to international affairs, Munim Zafar strongly condemned Israel's attacks on Palestine and other Muslim nations, as well as the United States for repeatedly shielding Israel at the UN. He said the UN has failed its purpose by allowing such atrocities and called the Organization of Islamic Cooperation equally ineffective, urging Muslim countries to unite independently to confront aggressors like Israel. Dakota Johnson calls Hollywood ‘a mess,' blasts studios for remaking ‘the same things'

Dakota Johnson is putting Hollywood on blast. The actress, 35, called the industry 'a mess'' in a scathing critique of Hollywood during a recent appearance on 'Hot Ones' for her 'Materialists' press tour. 'I think it's hard when creative decisions are made by committee and it's hard when creative decisions are made by people who don't even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what's occurring a lot,' Johnson said when asked by host Sean Evans why 'Hollywood is risk-averse.' 8 Dakota Johnson on 'Hot Ones.' They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things.' 'So I don't know,' she added. 'I guess it's all just a bit of a mess right now, isn't it?' 8 Dakota Johnson attends the 'Materialists' screening in New York City on June 7. Shreyas Iyer's act in IPL 2025 Final labelled 'criminal offence', deemed punishable by 'two-match ban': 'No apology'

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has launched a scathing attack on Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer for what he termed a 'criminal offence' in the IPL 2025 final. Iyer, who was dismissed for just one run in two deliveries, played what Yograj called an unforgivable shot at a crucial juncture, contributing heavily to Punjab's narrow six-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the title clash on Tuesday. RCB, who ended an 18-year wait for their maiden IPL trophy, posted 190/9 after being put in to bat by Punjab at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh (3/40), Kyle Jamieson (3/48), and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/37), managed to rein in RCB's big hitters to some extent, the chase came down to the final over. Punjab's innings was built on solid starts from Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26), with Josh Inglis (39) and Shashank Singh (61* off 30 balls) keeping them in the hunt till the end. Despite Shashank's 22-run blitz in the final over, PBKS fell agonizingly short at 184/7, and the turning point was undeniably the early loss of their skipper. Reacting to Iyer's soft dismissal, caught behind off Romario Shepherd, Yograj did not mince words. 'The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this are that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that," he told ANI. RCB's bowling attack, including Krunal Pandya (2/17), Yash Dayal (1/18), and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38), applied the brakes at crucial moments, and Pandya was deservingly named Player of the Match for his match-winning spell. While RCB ended their long wait for a maiden title, the celebrations were marred on Wednesday after a stampede in Bengaluru resulted in at least 11 deaths, with several others injured. The stampede took place during RCB's title-winning celebrations, and the franchise is facing heat for reportedly not adhering to police guidelines.

Amit Shah accuses Bengal CM of opposing Op Sindoor: ‘Killing of terrorists troubling Mamata Banerjee'

Home minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of 'opposing' Operation Sindoor. "Under Operation Sindoor, we conducted a deep strike 100 kilometers into Pakistan, targeting their headquarters. Numerous terrorists were killed, but this seems to trouble Mamata Ji" Shah said while addressing party leaders and workers in Kolkata. Shah also reiterated that Operation Sindoor — India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack – was not over. "...Mamata Banerjee may favour the Pakistani terrorists as much as she wants, but I want to tell her that this is PM Modi's government and Operation Sindoor is not yet over. Anyone who dares anything will be given a proper answer..." he said, according to ANI news agency. Shah also alleged that Mamata Banerjee was opposing Operation Sindoor to appease the Muslim vote bank. Mamata Banerjee had recently accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of trying to exploit Operation Sindoor — India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack – for political gains. During Sunday's speech, Amit Shah said that the communal violence in Murshidabad in April was 'state sponsored' and the accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of opposing the deployment of BSF. 'The MHA kept on insisting about the deployment of BSF during the Murshidabad riots, but the TMC government didn't allow it to happen so that the violence could continue,' Shah alleged, according to PTI. He also alleged that the TMC government in the state was facilitating illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. 'We requested land to build a fence along the border, which would effectively prevent infiltration from Bangladesh into India. However, you have deliberately avoided providing the required land, allowing unchecked infiltration to continue and thereby expanding your vote bank,' Shah said. 'It is evident that your priority lies in securing your nephew's political succession rather than addressing the pressing issue of border security,' he added.

Mohammed Shami meets UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 19 (ANI): Veteran Indian seamer Mohammed Shami met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the latter's residence on Monday. Shami recently launched a scathing tirade after reports claimed that his involvement in India's upcoming tour of England depends on his ability to bowl sustained spells, and some even indicated his imminent retirement. Shami broke the silence and responded strongly to the claim. He posted a screenshot of the article on Instagram with a seething message, 'Very well done. Also, start counting the days left to say 'adieu' to your job, then see ours later. People like you have ruined our future. Try saying nice things sometimes, too. Today's worst story, sorry.' Shami's Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has been poor for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has taken just six wickets in nine games at an average of 56.16 and was dropped for poor form. Shami hasn't bowled for India in the whites since the World Test Championship Final against Australia in 2023. A long injury layoff kept Shami out of action after the ODI World Cup in the same year. He even returned to the domestic circuit and featured in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal. With his experience, Shami enjoyed a fruitful outing and returned with seven scalps against Madhya Pradesh last year. Rumour mill suggested his return during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia; however, the series went by, and there were no signs of him. The 34-year-old has bowled the new ball for India across formats in 2025, representing the nation in the title-winning Champions Trophy campaign and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. Despite his growing number of appearances, reports have suggested that Shami's involvement in England will hinge on his capacity to manage the format's demands, which begins from June 20. Other reports hinted at the possibility of Shami taking the same route to Test retirement as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shami has represented India in 64 Tests and scalped 229 wickets at an average of 27.1, boasting six five-wicket hauls. In the aftermath of Virat and Rohit's retirement, India is short on experience. During India's last tour of Australia, India's premier frontline off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin decided to bring the curtains down on his international career. (ANI)
