Chelley and Cierra Just Made Love Island USA Season 7 Worth Watching

It finally happened, and baby, it was worth the wait. Love Island USA Season 7 just delivered the queer kiss heard 'round the internet, and social media is in absolute shambles. Tonight's episode saw Chelley Bissainthe and Cierra Ortega lock lips in a moment so charged, so iconic, it may have changed the course of this season and your timeline forever. It was electric. It was sexy. It was history. One X user summed it up best: 'It's finally happening guys!!! Chelley and Cierra are kissing #LoveIslandUSA' What followed was a full-blown meltdown of horny, emotional, and euphoric reactions from every corner of the app. Queer Twitter, sapphic TikTok, the girlies in the group chat, everyone came out swinging with joy and disbelief. 'I know Chelley was starving!' 'need them to win it all tbh' 'shes entertained 3 men in this villa and has not kissed A SINGLE ONE OF THEM LIKE THISDFGHDGFHDG #CIRELLY IS REALLLL' 'i actually jumped and screamed oh my god ' 'Oh hell yeah happy pride!' Yes, the crowd is roaring, and for good reason. At 27, Chelley Bissainthe isn't just playing the game. She's rewriting it. The Florida-born day trader came out as bisexual early in the season with the kind of confidence most of us can only dream of. And not just a cute little mention in a passing convo, either. No. Chelley gave us the tea and the receipts. In a spicy game segment, she casually dropped that she once cheated on a partner by kissing her female friend. Later, she elaborated. She was dating two women at the same time and, yes, had sex with both of them in one day. Name a more iconic confessional. I'll wait. But what's even more groundbreaking is how she's allowed her bisexuality to exist out loud without it being objectified or reduced to some male fantasy. Chelley is living proof that queerness on reality TV can be bold, authentic, and complex. She's not here to be your girl-on-girl-for-the-guys moment. She's here to fall in love, cause chaos, and be a damn good representation for queer viewers watching from their couches with their hearts in their throats. Let's not act like Love Island USA is a bastion of LGBTQ+ inclusivity because it's not. The franchise has historically been straight as hell. But now and then, it slips up and does something radical, and Chelley and Cierra's kiss joins the short but sacred canon. Season 5 gave us Johnnie Garcia and Kassy Castillo's vulnerable, beautiful confession and first same-sex kiss. Kyra Green, who came out as bisexual on the show, is now in a happy relationship with a woman offscreen. And now, in Season 7, we've got Chelley. Fearless, fierce, and kissing a girl on national TV like it's nothing. It should be nothing. But in a landscape where producers still cite 'logistical difficulties' as the reason we can't have a fully queer Love Island (I mean, hello, I Kissed A Girl exists and is thriving) Chelley's presence feels like a rebellion. A kiss in defiance of heteronormativity. A bombshell that shook the villa and the algorithm. Is this the start of a sapphic summer storyline? Please, God, let it be. But even if Chelley and Cierra's kiss doesn't bloom into a full-blown queer romance, fans are demanding that producers give our bisexual queen a little more to work with. Drop a bombshell. Send in a femme fatale. Let her flirt with someone who gets it. If Love Island really wants to prove it's evolving, they'll stop dangling queer moments like bait and start crafting full narratives. Chelley's done the work. Now, give her someone who can match that energy. Whether she finds love or just vibes through the rest of the season in true bad bitch fashion, Chelley's already won something bigger. The hearts of every queer girl on the internet. And if the timeline is any indicator, she's not leaving our screens or our hearts anytime soon. From bloodsucking vampires to time travelling humanoids; the best Science Fiction out this month: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab, Kill Them with Kindness by Will Carver, Esperance by Adam Oyebanji

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is available now from the Mail Bookshop Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab (Tor £22, 544pp) Even as they take blood, vampires are the gift that still keep on giving to the genre of dark romance. Now V. E. Schwab's foray into this fertile world has borne ripe and juicy fruit. Her new book is imbued with love, lust and yearning – mostly of the sapphic variety – and her take on hidden desires, hunger and corruption puts it up there with the classics of the genre. From 16th-century Spain to 21st-century America via Venice and London, the plotlines are languorously long, yet strong as sinew and soused in buckets of gore. Three women, three lives and three living deaths – sink your teeth into it and drink deep. Kill Them with Kindness by Will Carver (Orenda Books £9.99, 300pp) It starts with a knockabout dystopian premise: suppose the leaders of the western world decided to consolidate their power by releasing a deadly virus? Then suppose that the immunologist behind it all went rogue and found a bug that made people nice. Overnight, carnivorous chefs would go vegan, tech bros develop a conscience and the world would be transformed by little acts of kindness. Suffice to say, no one would put up with that, either. Carver delights in grimly plausible overlaps with our recent history. It's clever, compelling, funny and it really makes you think: could it yet happen? Or did it happen already? Esperance is available now from the Mail Bookshop Esperance by Adam Oyebanji (Arcadia £10.99, 432pp) Not many books feature time-travelling humanoids that talk like actor George Raft at his most gangsterish. There's humour here and also good, solid plotting – key characteristics of this clever, intricate, hugely enjoyable story that still packs a real punch. People are being drowned with seawater – mysteriously and ruthlessly – in inner-city apartments and grand country mansions alike. After the murderers are a pair of straight-talking cops, a glamorous Amazonian Nigerian with mysterious tech and a charming Bristolian drifter. Linking them is the Esperance, a 19th-century British sailing ship, whose historical business is very much the point of it all and will keep you gripped and leave you furious.

Wild One: effie isobel - Moon Made

Fans of sapphic fantasy romance and antioxidant superfoods pay attention! This week's Wild One, 'Moon Made', is a vampy, bewitching, high-vitamin clip from Kaurna artist effie isobel. Setting the scene with candles, mirrors, an enchanted forest and a very juicy pomegranate (it's giving Stephanie Meyer's Midnight Sun novel cover), director Grace Stewart channels sultry dark fantasy energy for this yearning dream-pop track. 'It was such a gorgeous experience bringing this video to life, and getting to work with the extremely talented Effie' says Grace. 'For the indoor shots, It was just the five of us in one room, experimenting with our creativity and embracing our femininity. This clip is witchy and enchanting and references 80s horror movies throughout. There's a story in it for everyone, but it may not find you just on the first watch.' Starring effie isobel and Zoe Taylor as two brooding, beautiful creatures (Witches? Vampires? We'll leave it up to the audience to decide…) with a deep bond, the production process for 'Moon Made' was consciously deisigned to create a distinctly feminine energy on set. 'The crew was almost entirely non-male (besides dear Zach who was our gaff in the forest shots), I think this contributed to how safe Zoe and I felt to be interacting in such a tender way' explains effie. 'I really wanted to explore these two girls being stuck in an intense, karmic relationship and I think we captured that!' 'I'm incredibly grateful for the team that worked on this clip. Exploring queerness and intimacy can be so vulnerable, I felt so held and supported in this space. We filmed this across two days, the first in a shed on a 38 degree day, and the second at night in a thorny forest, despite the intensity of these shoots, the team couldn't have been more supportive and energising to work with.' 'This clip is messy, high energy and a little spooky. I can't wait for you to see it!'

12 'straight' movies featuring gal pals who totally should have ended up together

Universal Pictures; Universal Pictures; Disney 12 'straight' movies featuring gal pals who totally should have ended up together As wonderful as it is that we've finally started getting more movies that involve actual on-screen explicitly sapphic representation, for many, many years, queer women learned to survive on crumbs. A wink and a nudge here, some unintentional queerbaiting there — we made do, and we loved it. We'll never forget the movies that allowed us to read more into the relationships between our favorite gal pals than the studios were willing to put on screen. We'll also never stop picking up on that sapphic tension, whether the people making the films intended it to be that way or not. 1. 'Pitch Perfect (2012)' — Beca & Chloe ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement - YouTube Nothing screams "friendship" quite like walking into another woman's shower, asking her to sing "Titanium," and then insinuating it's your favorite song to listen to when you're feeling frisky. No matter how many men the people behind Pitch Perfect throw at these ladies across however many movies, we'll always know they belong together. 2. 'Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)' — Idgie & Ruth - YouTube It feels cruel putting Fried Green Tomatoes on this list when the book is explicitly gay, but the movie was not allowed to go that far, so here we are. Ruth and Idgie's love story is one for the history books, and even straightwashing the film can't hide that. 3. 'Barbie (2023)' — Barbie & Gloria ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement - YouTube What could possibly be more delightful than seeing Barbie explore her sapphic side? We already know she wasn't in love with Ken and she's now adrift, searching for her inner truth in the real world. There might be some weird Dr. Frankenstein/Frankenstein's monster undertones in the idea of Barbie and Gloria getting together, but the vibes were there. 4. 'Bring It On (2000)' — Missy & Torrance - YouTube Bring It On is one of those movies where the romance might be cute, but it feels so superfluous. Torrance already gets an important new relationship in her life when Missy auditions for cheer — we never needed Missy's brother coming around on top of that! It clearly was a last resort! 5. 'Thelma & Louise (1991)' — Thelma & Louise ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement - YouTube Well, the argument could be made that Thelma and Louise did end up together, in a sense. 6. 'Descendants (2015)' — Mal & Evie - YouTube This duet between Mal and Evie in Descendants 2 was so gay that even Dove Cameron called it out years later. Sorry not sorry to Ben and Doug! 7. 'Wicked (2024)' — Elphaba & Galinda - YouTube If Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's press tour didn't convince you that Gelphie should be endgame, then it's time to get your gaydar checked. They know it. The original Galinda knows it. The author of the book knows it. While we don't expect Wicked: For Good to explicitly confirm it, it's basically canon at this point. 8. 'Bend It Like Beckham (2002)' — Jess & Jules ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement - YouTube Bend It Like Beckham is one of those movies that's so intrinsically sapphic that everybody tends to forget it actually wasn't. 9. 'The Parent Trap (1998)' — Meredith & Chessy Sure, Meredith and Chessy did not get along at all in The Parent Trap, but enemies-to-lovers always makes a compelling story. And okay, sure, maybe we mostly just want this because Elaine Hendrix and Lisa Ann Walter are such adorable BFFs IRL. 10. 'A Simple Favor (2018)' — Stephanie & Emily - YouTube The first film was gay. The second film was gayer. The third film, should we ever be blessed with such a thing, surely must become the gayest. Paul Feig, we're trusting in you. 11. 'Scooby-Doo (2002)' — Daphne & Velma ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement - YouTube Scooby-Doo was originally supposed to include a kiss between Velma and Daphne, albeit not one that singled the blossoming of a new, legitimate romance. But in every iteration of Scooby-Doo, sapphic fans have clamored for this to come to pass. And it sure would have been nice for it to happen in the version starring Linda Cardellini and Sarah Michelle Gellar. 12. 'Jennifer's Body (2009)' — Needy & Jennifer - YouTube Jennifer's Body can hardly be considered a heterosexual movie, and we won't insult it by pretending otherwise. But whatever desperate obsession was going on between Needy and Jennifer, they absolutely should have joined forces and kept killing boys together — but in a totally gay way. Still keeping our fingers crossed the sequel of our dreams will do it right.
