Caitlin Clark's College Coach Calling For WNBA Rule Change
Caitlin Clark's College Coach Calling For WNBA Rule Change originally appeared on The Spun. Lisa Bluder knows very well that defenses are always keeping a close eye on Caitlin Clark. After all, she coached the WNBA All-Star for four years at Iowa. Advertisement Earlier this week, Clark dealt with a few hard hits during the Fever-Sun game. For starters, she got poked in the eye by Jacy Sheldon. A few moments later, Marina Mabrey bumped her to the ground. It was a wild sequence that ended with Clark and Mabrey receiving technical fouls. Following the Fever's win over the Sun on Tuesday night, Clark let the media know that she's not worried about opposing defenses getting physical with her. "At the end of the day, I'm here to play basketball... my game's gonna talk and that's all that really matters," Clark told reporters. Bluder, however, believes the WNBA may have to consider changing their rules. (Photo by)During a conversation with TMZ Sports, the former Iowa women's basketball coach advocated for more fouls being called in the WNBA. Advertisement "It's a part of the WNBA. It's a part of the rules right now, and if we want that to change, I think we have to change the way the game is called," Bluder told TMZ Sports. Bluder wasn't done discussing the future of the WNBA. "I think there needs to be more freedom of movement in our game," Bluder said. "Which means, yes, calling more fouls, which people don't like, but people will adjust. The players will adjust. If we start calling more fouls and emphasize the rules, the players will adjust. I think that's the only way to change the behavior. And I think what's gonna happen is more people are gonna enjoy the game." Fans probably don't want regular-season games to be extended, but calling more fouls would protect Clark and other stars in the WNBA. NFL Owners Considering Making a Radical Rule Change
Next week, NFL owners are going to be voting on a major change to the rules when it comes to playoff positioning. The Detroit Lions are proposing that the four division champions and three wild-card teams in each conference be seeded by their record instead of giving the top four seeds specifically to division winners. Advertisement Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer detailed the proposal: "Detroit's proposal would be for the four division champions and three wild cards in each conference to make the playoffs," Breer wrote. "Those seven teams would then be seeded strictly by record, rather than assigning the top seeds to the division winners (which is how it's been done since the merger), with the wild cards to follow. If teams have the same record, being a division champion would be the first tiebreaker—regardless of head-to-head record." NFL commissioner Roger GoodellKirby Lee-Imagn Images Outside of the playoff rule change, owners will also be voting on the Green Bay Packers' proposal to ban the tush push, a play the Philadelphia Eagles have run with great success over the past three seasons and which has been adopted by other teams. Advertisement Breer also provided more details on that side of the vote. "The proposal says an offensive player can't 'immediately at the snap, push or throw his body against a teammate, who was lined up directly behind the snapper and received the snap, to aid him in an attempt to gain yardage,'" he wrote. "Coaches asked for more clarity with the original writing of the rule, at the meetings in March." Both changes could very well occur next week. There is no telling how the votes will go, but NFL fans will be keeping a close eye on them. Related: Colin Cowherd Shares Eye-Opening Shedeur Sanders Take
