Today's ‘Wordle' #1461 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, June 19th

How to solve today's Wordle. SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Looking for Tuesday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: It's Thor's Day, which means that I give you the answer to yesterday's Wordle Wednesday riddle before we dive into our Wordle guide. Here was the riddle: A viking and a dragon live together on an island in the middle of the sea. On the island there are five pools of magical water. Each pool is higher up the mountainside than the last, and the fifth and highest pool can only be reached by the dragon. Drinking from a pool poisons the drinker, but drinking from the next pool higher up immediately cures the poison. After many years on the island, the two grow tired of one another and agree on a challenge. Each will bring a chalice filled with water for the other to drink. They are allowed to refill their chalice from one of the pools afterwards. On the day of the challenge, both the viking and the dragon drink. The dragon then rushes to the highest pool and drinks deeply. Moments later, the beast drops dead. The viking lives alone on the island. How is this possible? The answer: The viking drank from the first pool before showing up to the challenge. He filled the chalice he was giving to the dragon with seawater. Once they both had downed their challices, the dragon rushed to the top pool and drank what ended up being a poisonous draft. The viking didn't drink again — the dragon's chalice healed his poison instead of killing him. Now, it's Wordle time! The Hint: A rare or curious object. The Clue: This Wordle has more vowels than consonants. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . CREAM was a good starting guess, leaving me with just 15 answers. I decided I'd try to move the yellow 'R' and guess all new letters for the rest instead of guessing the answer on the second guess. HORNY — I know, what can I say, it was the best word I could come up with — did the trick, leaving me with just one remaining solution: CURIO for the win! The 1% Club players struggle on very tough letters question – can you outsmart them?

THREE contestants were left stumped by a tricky letter riddle that whittled down the competition in its final stages. Host Lee Mack tasked the 10 remaining players with a tough challenge for the 15% question. 3 It read: "Which two words, that contain the same five letters as each other but in a different order, mean the same as the two words below? Fairly silent." The clock began to tick and the remaining players did their best to find the answer from within the recesses of their minds. The correct answer was "quite quiet". Contestant Jackie successfully got the answer right but told Lee that she was getting "less confident with every question". Sadly for her, she fell close to the final hurdle with the 5% question proving too much. For that question, the contestants were presented with a jumbled up clock face with the minute hand pointing at six, which was in the 12 position, and the small hand close to 10, which was was where nine is usually found. They were tasked with working out the time on the clock if the hands moved 30 minutes clockwise. The answer was 10 o'clock. Jackie was the sole casualty of the question and her exit paved the way for five contestants to have the opportunity to win a potential £97,000. All five men standing decided to gamble their £10k prize for a chance of winning more money and to become a member of the 1% Club. The question was: "What new word links the capitalised words below? My SON TED ate raw FOOD and got SICK, then went to BED with me by his SIDE." The answer was 'sea' which could be placed before each word to make a series of new words. No one got the answer right. All new letters (obviously) with CHAIN cut that number down to just 5. But the five in question — or at least the ones I could think of — all ended in UNCH. LUNCH, PUNCH, HUNCH, MUNCH, etc. So I came up with a word that had as many of those letters as possible with PLUMB and that slashed the number down to just 1: MUNCH for the win. It meant I couldn't guess the answer on #3, but if I'd just started guessing randomly I might have missed this one entirely. Today's Wordle Bot We tied and both the Bot and I guessed in four, so zero points for the both of us, leaving our June total at: Erik: 11 points Wordle Bot: 8 points The word munch likely comes from Middle English mounchen, meaning "to chew," which is probably related to Middle Dutch monken or Old French monger ("to eat"). It's imitative in origin—mimicking the sound or action of chewing. First recorded use in English is around the late 14th century. CRIME left me with just 26 words and SHOAL cut that number to three. I almost guessed CEASE on my third try but went with CAUSE because it had more letter diversity. Oh well! Today's Wordle Bot I think every day of the month so far, the Bot and I have traded wins, leaving us neck-and-neck for June. I get -1 today for guessing in four and losing to the Bot, while it gets 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating me. Our totals are once again a tie: Erik: 2 points Wordle Bot: 2 points The verb cease comes into English via Old French cesser 'to leave off, stop,' itself from Vulgar Latin *cessāre (a frequentative form) of Latin cedere 'to go, yield.' You can find them here: It's another lovely day for a Wordle, especially since it's Wordle Wednesday. Every Wednesday you don't just get a Wordle to solve, I also hand out a special challenge: A riddle or brain-teaser to solve before we get to solving the main attraction. Here's today's: A cowboy hung up his hat, tied a blindfold around his eyes, walked one hundred yards across a wide field and turned around, pulling the trigger of his rifle. The bullet went straight through he hat even though he couldn't see a thing. How did he do it? I'll post the answer in tomorrow's guide. If you come up with a solution, message me on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook. For now, we have a Wordle to solve! The Hint: Northerly bears. The Clue: This Wordle has more consonants than vowels. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . BRIDE wasn't the worst opener, but far from the best. With 191 words remaining and just one yellow box, I decided to look for a word with two new vowels and I settled on O and A. For whatever reason, I had a hard time coming up with anything and eventually settled on VALOR. This worked out pretty well, slashing my remaining words down to just three. I could think of MOLAR, SOLAR and POLAR and I was pretty sure the first two had already been Wordles in the past. So I went with POLAR and sure enough, that was the Wordle! Today's Wordle Bot Credit: Erik Kain I'm a little surprised the Bot didn't get this in three also, but I'll take the win. 1 point for guessing in three, 1 for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me.
