Arnold Schwarzenegger says immigrants need to act responsibly, 'behave' like guests

Print Close By Hanna Panreck Published June 17, 2025 Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger touted the "responsibility" immigrants have when they come to America during an interview Tuesday on "The View," encouraging them to do things legally and behave like guests in the U.S. "I just think the world of the great history that we have with immigrants in America, but the key thing also is at the same time, that we've got to do things legal," he said. "That is the most important thing. You've got to do things legal, and those people that are doing illegal things in America, and they're the foreigners, they are not smart, because, when you come to America, you're a guest, and you have to behave like a guest, like when I go to someone's house, and I'm a guest, then I will do everything I can, keep things clean and to make my bed and to do everything that is the right thing to do rather than committing a crime, or being abusive or something like that, so that doesn't really work in this country," Schwarzenegger said. Schwarzenegger was pressed by the hosts on ICE's presence in Los Angeles and on whether the National Guard would have been deployed if he was governor. "You have a responsibility as an immigrant to give back to America and to pay back to America and go and do something for your community for no money whatsoever. Give something back to after-school programs, Special Olympics, or whatever it is, make this a better place," the former California governor said. 'THE VIEW' CO-HOST WARNS CAST MATES NOT TO DEMONIZE ICE AND MILITARY PERSONNEL OVER LA RIOTS The hosts pushed back on Schwarzenegger as Whoopi Goldberg insisted "90% of the people who come here are trying to do the right thing." "Immigrants are less likely to commit crimes in this country than actual American-born citizens," co-host Sunny Hostin told Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger also called for immigration reform during the discussion and said both Democrats and Republicans needed to work together to pass it. "All of this is happening because we don't have immigration reform," he said. "Democrats and Republicans have to come together and solve this issue if they really want to be public servants. If they want to be party servants, and be party hacks, and be tied to their ideology, then it won't happen." He told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel last week that he agreed with his recent take on the current state of L.A., in which Kimmel mocked the media for portraying the anti-ICE protests as "some kind of totalitarian hellscape" and condemned the Trump administration for deporting "people who have lived here their whole lives." "I totally agree with you, by the way, Jimmy, because they make it out like it is a war zone — the whole Los Angeles — the whole city or the county," he argued. "The fact of the matter is it's maybe like 0.001% of the area of Los Angeles has problems and there's a protest." Singapore ex-actor Ian Fang in apology bow for sex case, mother claims ‘proof' against STD reports

Former actor Ian Fang bowed in apology on Monday as he surrendered to begin his 40-month jail term in Singapore for having sex with a 15-year-old girl, telling reporters he was taking responsibility for his actions. Alongside him, Fang's mother rejected what she called inaccurate reports, saying they had 'proof' that he did not give the victim a sexually transmitted infection. Speaking to reporters outside Singapore's State Courts, the 35-year-old Fang said in Mandarin: 'When you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility. I'm here now to accept the punishment and legal consequences that I deserve. Of course, I also hope that everyone can give me a chance to be reborn, to start over.' In English, Fang added: 'This is something that I need to pay. It's an expensive and very huge mistake that I need to pay off. But I believe it will definitely make me a better person.' He also directly apologised to the victim, saying: 'I am sorry. Everyone has been hurt.' Fang's public appearance marked his first since his conviction on May 19 on three counts of sexual penetration of a minor. According to the court records, Fang met the teenage girl at an entertainment event in 2024. The two went on to have unprotected sex on multiple occasions, even though she was underage. He also admitted harassing the girl during the investigation, including repeatedly calling her late at night and pressuring her to plead for leniency on his behalf.

Ian Fang says he takes responsibility, asks for another chance as he surrenders for jail term

SINGAPORE: Former actor Ian Fang apologised and said he was taking responsibility for his sexual offences involving a teenage girl before surrendering in court to start his jail sentence on Monday (Jun 16). The 35-year-old was speaking to reporters outside the State Courts. He will serve a 40-month jail term after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual penetration of a minor. Fang also admitted to harassing the victim by contacting her multiple times while he was under investigation, and asking her to cry before her mother and say she did not want him to go to jail. The victim was 15 years old at the time of Fang's offences in 2024. On Monday, he said in Mandarin: "When you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility. I'm here now to accept the punishment and legal consequences that I deserve. Of course, I also hope that everyone can give me a chance to be reborn, to start over." Fang then bowed. In his only comments in English, he said: "I think I definitely will try my best to be a better person, be a better version (of) myself. "At the same time, this is something that I need to pay. It's an expensive and very huge mistake that I need to pay it off. But I believe it will definitely make me an even better person." "And I really hope that everyone could give me a chance to let me show you guys that I can be the person that you guys want me to be," he said, before apologising and bowing again. When asked what he had to say to the victim, Fang said: "I am sorry. Everyone has been hurt." He added: "I believe that if I do something wrong, I have to accept it. So now, I'm just getting my mindset and emotions right to accept the punishment I deserve." Fang was accompanied by his mother, who chimed in at times to prompt him in his comments to reporters. He said his mother had stayed by his side during this period, and that he felt sorry for her. "I also hope that I can continue to be a filial son after I have a chance to be reborn," Fang said, adding that his mother had endured a lot during this period. On reports of the victim's parents saying they would sue him, Fang said that some reports were "not true" and expressed hope that they could be clarified. He also addressed his supporters, acknowledging that some saw him as a "role model or idol" and saying that he hoped to show everyone he could learn from his mistakes.

Pope Leo appeals for ‘reason' amid Israel–Iran airstrikes, calls for dialogue

Pope Leo appealed on Saturday for authorities in Iran and Israel to act with 'reason' after recent airstrikes and to pursue dialogue. He told an audience in St. Peter's Basilica he was following the situation with 'great concern.' 'In such a delicate moment, I strongly wish to renew an appeal to responsibility and to reason,' said the pope. 'The commitment to building a safer world free from the nuclear threat must be pursued through respectful encounters and sincere dialogue to build a lasting peace, founded on justice, fraternity, and the common good,' he said. 'No one should ever threaten the existence of another,' said Leo. 'It is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace, initiating paths of reconciliation and promoting solutions that guarantee security and dignity for all.'
