UAE President holds talks with Gulf leaders over Israel-Iran conflict

President Sheikh Mohamed held phone calls with Gulf leaders on Sunday to discuss how air strikes on Iran could affect regional security and stability. The UAE leader discussed the escalating Israel-Iran conflict in key talks with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The talks formed part of consultations led by Sheikh Mohamed aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region, state news agency Wam reported. During the calls, all sides emphasised that the current hostilities could have grave repercussions for the region and the global. The leaders emphasised the need to prioritise dialogue and seek peaceful solutions to the conflict. US President Donald Trump on Saturday said American forces bombed the Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites in Iran, bringing to an end days of speculation about whether Washington would become directly involved in the conflict. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the US strikes 'outrageous' and said they would have 'everlasting consequences'. The UAE has expressed concern over the tensions in the region and attacks on nuclear sites. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday that stressed the importance of prioritising diplomacy and dialogue to resolve disputes in ways that "promote stability, prosperity and justice". The UAE's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation said developments related to nuclear sites in Iran are being monitored closely. "There are no impacts on the UAE resulting from these developments," it said in a statement carried by Wam. "FANR confirmed that it is well-informed and continuously following up on the situation, in co-ordination with international partners, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, and receives regular updates through official channels."

GCC Sec-Gen: Direct Targeting of Iranian Nuclear Facilities Risks Regional Escalation

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi emphasized that the events in the region today, including the direct targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States, will escalate tensions and impact regional security and stability. He also stated that the GCC reaffirms the statement issued at the 48th Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council regarding regional developments and reiterates its condemnation of anything that threatens the security and stability of the region, SPA reported. Albudaiwi also stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, for all parties to make joint efforts to de-escalate tensions, to adopt diplomacy as an effective means of resolving conflicts, and to exercise the highest levels of self-restraint to spare the region and its people the dangers of war.

Defence minister: Malaysia monitoring Iran-Israel conflict, plans evacuation of Malaysians via Turkmenistan

KOTA TINGGI, June 21 — The Defence Ministry will continue to closely monitor developments in the Iran-Israel conflict, given its potential implications for regional security and national interests, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He said the situation is alarming as it could escalate into a broader conflict, including disrupting the global supply chains, impacting the world economy, and endangering the safety of Malaysians in the region. 'We are monitoring the developments. When a world war breaks out, all countries are affected, oil prices surge, supply chains are disrupted, global trade is hampered, and trading nations like Malaysia will also feel the impact,' he said. The Kota Tinggi MP told reporters after officiating the ceremony to harvest young Bentong ginger in Kampung Gembut, near here, today. He said the Iran-Israel conflict offers insights into the use of technology, which in turn helps Malaysia fortify national defence preparedness. Mohamed Khaled said the Foreign Ministry is coordinating efforts to evacuate Malaysians in Iran via land routes, as there are no inbound and outbound flights from Iran. 'The country that has been arranged to receive them is Turkmenistan. From there, they will likely be brought home using commercial flights,' he said, adding that there is still a small number of Malaysians in Iran. 'The evacuation process will be carried out in an orderly manner, taking into account both security and diplomatic considerations,' he added. — Bernama

Macron's office says France planning European ‘initiative' to end Iran-Israel conflict

France is planning along with European partners to suggest a negotiated solution to end the conflict between Iran and Israel, President Emmanuel Macron's office said Wednesday. At a national security council meeting, Macron ordered Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot to draw up in the coming days 'an initiative with close European partners that would propose a demanding negotiated settlement to put an end to the conflict,' it said, without giving details on the nature of the plan. Barrot has been in regular touch with his German and British counterparts since Israel launched massive airstrikes against Iran on Friday. All three countries were involved in talks that led to a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers to curb Tehran's nuclear activities in exchange for relief from sanctions. The United States withdrew from that accord during President Donald Trump's first term. Macron also urged Israel to end strikes on targets in Iran not linked to nuclear activities or ballistic missiles. He voice 'concern over the current escalation, with Israeli strikes increasingly hitting targets not linked to Iran's nuclear or ballistic program, and a mounting number of civilian victims in Iran and Israel,' his office said. He said it was 'necessary to urgently end these military operations, which pose significant threats to regional security,' it added. The French president also urged the foreign ministry to take measures to help French citizens leave Israel or Iran if they wished to do so, the Elysee added, without providing further details.
