"Staggering" cruelty: North Texas man charged after puppy found dead in dumpster, SPCA says

A North Texas man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities found an emaciated puppy dead inside a crate that had been thrown into a dumpster, according to the SPCA of Texas. Jacob Paul Nichols, of Hunt County, was arrested Tuesday after the puppy's body was discovered in a trash receptacle at an apartment complex in Greenville. Puppy found in Greenville dumpster The Hunt County Sheriff's Office contacted the SPCA of Texas' Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit after the puppy was found. Investigators determined the puppy was adopted in January and rehomed to Nichols on Feb. 13. She died from extreme starvation and dehydration over an extended period, according to the SPCA of Texas. Jacob Paul Nichols SPCA of Texas Traced through microchip Investigators traced Sandy's microchip to a Dallas adopter, who rehomed her to Nichols in February through a screened adoption site. Nichols had signed a contract agreeing to provide proper care. "The evidence indicates that she was trapped, neglected, and ultimately starved to death over a span of months. "The level of cruelty in this case is staggering, and the SPCA of Texas and Hunt County Sheriff's Office are committed to ensuring justice is served." Nichols is being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Puppy Sleeps Through Noise & Chaos in Viral Instagram Video

In a now-viral Instagram video, a Golden Retriever puppy managed to sleep through the hustle and bustle around him. Archie the Golden Retriever puppy's owner found him sleeping soundly with his limbs stretched out, capturing the adorable moment on camera. Moreover, the gym equipment lying around him added a hilarious false pretext for netizens, with many joking that his deep slumber might have come from all the exercise. A hilarious viral video captured Archie, the Golden Retriever puppy, sleeping like a baby amidst noise and chaos. The humorous element comes to life when the camera pans to the noisy carpentry in the backdrop. While the room fills up with noise, it does not budge the pup. He continues sleeping on the exercise mat with no care in the world. The short clip begins with a shot of Archie sleeping on the mat. With his limbs stretched out and a slight smile on his face, he slept without any care. The camera then zooms out to reveal the exercising equipment all around the puppy. While everything seems normal, the camera slowly reveals the bigger picture. The video captures a man plugging in a drilling machine. Once he does so, he rests on what appears to be newly made furniture, while another individual uses the device. The noise of the drilling machine fills the room. However, despite the noise, the puppy does not budge. The Golden Retriever does flinch at the sudden chaos, but he doesn't let it disturb his peaceful sleep. Looking like he is tired from exercising, Archie does not let the noise bother him. The puppy's deep sleep resonated with a wide audience, who took to the comments to let their admiration for the canine be known. A user remarked, 'He is like such a cute, fluffy stuffy,' while another joked, 'He looks like a little lamb.' Another commentator advised, 'Open a bag of chips, that'll wake him,' and the owner agreed, replying, 'It would wake him up instantly.' The video serves as a reminder of the little joys that puppies bring into people's lives, even when they are simply sleeping. Dying stray puppy is desperate to find a loving home where he can live out his final days

A months-old puppy born with only one failing kidney is in a desperate race against time to find his first - and likely final - home, where he can spend his remaining days surrounded by a family. Fletcher, a 10-month-old fluffy black stray dog, traveled more than 2,000 miles from Arizona to a South Carolina humane society in hopes of receiving treatment for multiple birth defects, The State reported. However, upon arrival, the shelter discovered Fletcher's condition was far more serious - they found he had only one kidney, and it was actively failing. After determining that surgery would be too risky, the shelter made a heartbreaking but compassionate choice: rather than let Fletcher spend his remaining days confined to a cage, they vowed to do everything they could to find him a loving home. 'We'd give anything to do more for you. To promise you forever,' the Greenville Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post shared last week. 'But what we can promise you is today,' it added. 'And we won't let you sit in a kennel any longer.' 'Fletcher, you deserve to live your life in a loving home, where you can run carefree and know a loving embrace outside the confinements of a kennel.' The 10-month-old pup began his life in a shelter in Arizona, but thanks to the dedication of the South Carolina-based rescue team, he made the 2,043-mile journey by car to meet the people determined to give him a second chance. Fletcher (pictured) traveled more than 2,000 miles from Arizona to a South Carolina humane society in hopes of receiving treatment for the multiple birth defects affecting his fragile young life After determining that surgery would be too risky, the shelter made a heartbreaking but compassionate choice: rather than let Fletcher spend his remaining days confined to a cage, they vowed to do everything they could to find him a loving home 'You waited patiently through sickness,' the shelter wrote. 'And when that day finally came and you visited the specialist, we held onto that hope.' Fletcher's human advocates were hopeful that the care team could treat his hypospadias and ectopic ureter, but the prognosis quickly took a devastating turn. It was soon discovered that Fletcher's single kidney was not only failing - but deteriorating far faster than anyone had anticipated. 'The specialists told us surgery is likely fatal due to the health of your remaining kidney,' the post continued. 'How could we make that decision? Just to let you go? After we tried this hard.' 'After you waited - patiently. But we couldn't risk your life. So, the decision was made to forgo surgery. To allow you to enjoy your life, just the way you are - which is perfect.' Now, the shelter is urgently searching for someone to open their heart and home to Fletcher, despite the painful uncertainty of how long his remaining kidney will hold on. Aside from likely requiring lifelong medications, frequent vet visits and a specialized diet, the humane society admitted they still don't know exactly what the adorable pup's future holds. But one thing they know for certain is this - they refuse to let Fletcher spend even one more day confined inside the shelter. 'He was in an Arizona shelter since he was just a baby, so he's never truly known what it feels like to live in a home,' Katie Wofford, marketing assistant for the shelter, told McClatchy News via email. 'Despite this and his congenital defects, he's a very happy boy,' Wofford added. 'He loves to trot around with a stuffy in his mouth, always wagging and smiling to anyone who will greet him.' Wofford described Fletcher as overflowing with love - so much so that he'd make the perfect companion for anyone willing to give him the best final chapter he deserves. 'Even if his life may not be long, he's ready to give all the love he has to his family,' she said. 'He will need a very special home who is willing to put in the extra love and work he needs, but there's no dog in the world that deserves it more than Fletcher.' As of June 18, Fletcher is still waiting for a permanent home. Anyone interested in meeting him or giving the sweet pup the love and comfort he deserves is encouraged to reach out via email at adoptions@ 'Today, we're hoping to let you go. But in the best way possible,' the Facebook post read. 'We want you to find your forever: a family willing to give you a loving, comfortable place to live out your life just the way you are, for however long you're able to,' it added. 'Because more than anything, you deserve that.' 'You deserve the world, and even though this isn't the outcome we were hoping for, we're committed to giving you absolutely everything we can.'

EXCLUSIVE I thought my £2,500 cocker spaniel puppy from an award-winning Crufts litter would be the perfect pet - but I've been left thousands out of pocket

A woman has revealed how her dream of getting a puppy during the coronavirus lockdown quickly turned into a nightmare, leaving her thousands of pounds out of pocket. Rachel Dale, 38, from Buckinghamshire, welcomed Rodney - a tiny spaniel with fluffy soft hair, velvet ears and award-winning parents - into her family in 2020. The photographer believed she was getting the perfect pet, having secured the last of a top-tier, award-winning Crufts litter, for the staggering cost of £2,500. 'He was this beautiful, sleepy little ball of fluff. We fell for him instantly,' the mother-of-one told Femail exclusively. She added: 'It wasn't necessarily that we had our hearts set on a top-tier dog - we did our research and signed up to credible websites with listings from approved kennel club breeders, with all of the checks done. We even researched which breed suited us.' But within weeks, the puppy bubble burst after it became clear that Rodney, who was just barely two months old, was suffering with serious health issues. Rachel took her puppy to a vet but would later find out that the pet expert had misdiagnosed the beloved dog, voiding his insurance and leaving the photographer thousands out of pocket after years of endless treatments. It was only a chance chat with another mother that finally helped Rachel's four-legged friend find comfort - thanks to a substantial change in his diet. Rachel recalled: 'It became evident quite quickly that something was wrong, and it was heartbreaking. 'He was just this innocent little puppy barely eight weeks old and he was already facing serious health problems.' She said: 'The first thing we noticed was that he didn't seem to see people properly. He would take a long time to register people and he seemed to move his head with the sound of our voices. 'The other big worry was his left eye, it wasn't the same as his right eye - it was more closed in and he was having nasal issues. At one point, we genuinely thought we might lose him after one very rough night with him.' Determined to find help, Rachel began a six-month search for answers, taking Rodney to the vet straight away - who told them to contact the breeders immediately, as they must have known. 'Taking the vet's advice I reached out and asked to the breeders to see if they were aware he had health issues from birth - and they literally brushed it off, got off the phone as fast as possible and then I saw £1,000 from them in my account,' said Rachel. 'Like a payoff. Never intended to return him - but top breeders who are supposed to have all the checks done were not being ethical, it seemed.' The mother-of-one revealed: 'We were back and forth to the vets and were told to go to a specialist - then we finally got a diagnosis. He doesn't produce tears out of his left eye and has a serious genetic eye condition. 'It was upsetting, but also a relief. At least we knew what we were dealing with and how to help him cope. 'But then, months later, it was a huge shock when we found out the original vet had misdiagnosed him before we even got to the specialist - and that made our pet insurance completely void. That was a massive blow.' By his first birthday, Rodney's list of issues was long: sinus issues and chronic ear infections, partial vision loss which will get worse over time - he will eventually lose his sight fully. Rachel said: 'But in the last year alone he has developed further issues with heightened allergies. 'Coupled with the chronic eye and ear infections he can be in a lot of pain - one ear infection lasted three months and almost caused permanent damage to his ear drum. 'I honestly thought at one point he might even be allergic to water. I definitely think his more recent health issues are environmental as he constantly sneezes when we go for a walk and only last week he even turned round to walk himself back home! 'I have put a lot of time into Rodney's daily routine - including lubricating his eye with a special eye ointment, I clean his ears daily, clean his mouth folds and check his skin daily because it is often raw from constant scratching.' With no financial cover, the family's out-of-pocket costs soared, with Rachel revealing: 'We were spending up to £500 a month. It wasn't a choice - it was a necessity. You can't leave a dog in distress.' Much of the cost came down to special food, constant vet visits, and courses of steroid treatments prescribed to manage his symptoms - which often seem to make Rodney worse. 'We've tried everything,' insisted the photographer. She also tried every type of food she could find - trying three different foods in the last year alone. 'We left no stone unturned - all the hypoallergenic, vet-prescribed, premium medical food. Nothing worked. But I wasn't giving up,' said Rachel. Then came a twist of fate. The parent had struck up a friendship with one of the mothers on the nursery run, and in a casual conversation mentioned how much she was struggling to manage Rodney's health. It turned out the other mother, Fatima Maktari, wasn't just a fellow dog lover – she was also an Oxford-trained chemist turned pet food entrepreneur and Founder of Tribal Pet Foods. Fatima started experimenting with dog food recipes in her own kitchen after flipping over a packet of treats one day and realising she didn't recognise a single ingredient. 'She explained everything so simply - about nutrition, about gut health, about how it might all be linked,' Rachel said. 'I'd had the best vet-prescribed food that did nothing, and here was a mum on the school run who just got it.' In 2017, Fatima, launched the Fresh Pressed range - the first cold-pressed dog food in the UK made with fresh meat. Sold exclusively through specialist pet retailers across the UK - with over 20 million meals served. Rachel had struck up a friendship with one of the mothers on the nursery run, and in a casual conversation mentioned how much she was struggling to manage Rodney's health. Pictured, the pet Rachel gave it a go, and only fed him on Tribal - and nothing else exclusively – for one whole month. 'The change in Rodney is amazing,' said the relieved mother. 'His coat is so glossy and his itch has really calmed. 'This is the worst time of the year for Rodney due to his allergies but Tribal has kept his symptoms at bay. We've used it exclusively for a little over a month now and we want to maintain it. 'We honestly can't believe the difference - it's just unbelievable. He's so much happier in himself. He's shining again. 'Of course there are still underlying health issues, but he's more relaxed, more comfortable, and finally just able to live his life happily. He's just celebrated his fifth birthday.' And there's one small detail that's made a big difference. 'You even get a proper measuring cup with the food,' Rachel said. 'It sounds so silly, but it means you know exactly how much to feed - no guessing. It just takes the stress out of it. Honestly, that's been a game changer. 'Because of Rodney's ongoing health issues, he also regularly fluctuates quite rapidly with his weight - so that alone has been very useful.' Founder Fatima added: 'Why it works is because the highest quality ingredients and meat are gently cooked at low temperatures to help retain nutrients, support digestion - all without the harsh or stripped-out processing of traditional kibble. 'When changing a dog's diet you need to give it a minimum of a month to eight weeks to see results ' In the end, it wasn't a treatment or a test result that turned things around. It was a conversation. 'It was just the right friend, at the right time, in the right place,' Rachel said. 'And sometimes, trusting your gut is the best thing you can do as a mum'.

Conor Maynard welcomes new addition to his family with sweet Father's Day post after denying paternity of Charlotte Chilton's baby

Conor Maynard has welcomed a new addition to his family after vehemently denying that he was the father of Charlotte Chilton's baby girl. The singer, 32, shared a cosy snap with his girlfriend Kitty on Father's Day as they shared the sweets news with his fans. Conor revealed that they had adopted a Bernedoodle puppy named Bernard as he posted a picture of the couple cuddling the pooch. Kitty held the pup in her arms while Conor looked on adoringly and the fluffy creature in the snap captioned: 'Welcome to the family little Bernard.' Fans rushed to congratulate the couple on their new addition, including one who wrote: 'Awwh your first baby, so happy for you.' Kitty held the pup in her arms while Conor looked on adoringly and the fluffy creature in the snap captioned: 'Welcome to the family little Bernard' Last month, Conor broke his silence on the baby paternity scandal during a baffling interview on This Morning. He appeared on the ITV show to chat to hosts Alison Hammond and Paddy McGuinness to set the record straight after he previously said a DNA test confirmed he is not the father. Conor hit headlines last year after The Traitors 2024 star Charlotte, 32, revealed that Conor was the father of her unborn 'miracle' baby after falling pregnant following a one night stand. Hours after Conor's appearance, Charlotte put on a brave face as she stepped out with her baby daughter in Warwickshire. The reality star, who shot to fame on BBC 's The Traitors in 2024, claimed that he refused to acknowledge her daughter. Then in March this year Conor claimed that DNA test proved he's not the father. Appearing on the ITV show to promote his new single, Conor baffled viewers by not outright repeating that he is not the dad and and failing to say much of any note. He said: 'Realistically one the main reasons, the right time to speak about it was because as you already said, the last year has been really difficult. 'Mental health has been something I've suffered with my life. This recent year has been up there in terms of experience and battle with it. 'I've never shied away from that. My fans who follow me online, I've spoken about it before, even today, I've released a brand new song, it goes deeply into my battle with anxiety. 'A lot of things that have happened, contributed to why things have been difficult.' Paddy asked when he got the results, what was the instant feeling, to which Conor said: 'I actually felt like I was going to have a massive panic attack the second I found out. 'That's the difficult truth about mental health is that when something traumatic happens to you, the second when that traumatic event stops, you don't then go "oh I'm fine now, everything is fine. Great I can now move on". He added: 'It doesn't really work like that. Initially my friends were like "do you want to grab a drink? We'll go do something, go hang out near by your house, we can just talk." 'I stayed at home with my girlfriend. We stayed in that night and realistically tried to stay calm and have a relaxed night.' 'When the result came in, I can't even begin to explain to you how it was, unbelievable. 'It took a lot of time to process it and it took a lot of time to really understand and also to accept that I will never understand a lot of the things that ended up happening.' When asked if he had tried to contact Charlotte when the story went public last June, Conor said: 'We'd obviously spoken but at the same time she was pregnant, she was going to give birth for the first time. 'I was aware of this situation before, however, I had no idea that it was going to go to the press, I didn't know that any of that was going to happen. 'In my mind it was like well, obviously the natural proceeding would be a paternity test to basically make sure that everything is 100 per cent certain and then obviously, we deal with it accordingly and obviously, that's not the way it went.' Discussing how he refrained from speaking out on the situation he explained: 'It was difficult to remain silent. I instantly was painted as a deadbeat dad and that kind of thing and all of my comments across all of my social media, was very much all about that. 'Instinctively you want to defend yourself and you want to tell your side of the story but I also felt like it wasn't right to speak on it until I knew the truth myself.' 'I obviously researched paternity tests and that kind of thing and I know that it can be considered dangerous for a child that isn't born yet and also when they're very early in life. 'I was kind of just waiting and allowing that decision to come from the other side.' Back in March Conor dropped a huge bombshell by alleging that the results of a paternity test have shown he did not father a child with Charlotte, despite her claims. In his statement in March Conor's representatives have insisted the DNA test has 'drawn a line under the matter' and shared hopes that Charlotte 'can find a way to move forward.' He has since been moving on with his life, and in March took to Instagram to reveal he's embarking on a 'new chapter' by buying a house with his girlfriend Kitty Bertrand. He added: 'I've moved into a new house with my wonderful girlfriend who has been an absolute rock for me in the last year.' Charlotte reportedly still believes Conor is the father of her child according to pals, despite the singer's claims a paternity test has proven otherwise. Friends say the new mum has major doubts on the accuracy of the test after it was all reportedly controlled by Conor's lawyers. They added that the main reason for Charlotte's doubts come from the move by Conor to change the location of the DNA test at the last minute. As Charlotte's pals broke their silence on the paternity news, they told The Sun: 'She is bitterly disappointed about the results and her legal team are looking into how they move forward to ensure Conor takes a second test. It's been an exhausting fight between them.' Explaining how Conor has distanced himself from Charlotte since she announced her pregnancy they continued: 'He refused to take her calls or answer messages, and instead put everything into the hands of his lawyers. 'It's all been on his terms. Conor even had his team change the testing location. 'He couldn't wait to tell the world about the paternity test after getting the results.' Conor's representatives said to MailOnline: 'It is very difficult to understand how the location of the paternity test would have changed the results. 'To be clear, this test was conducted by a registered nurse in the presence of Charlotte's legal representative. The results have clearly drawn a line under the matter, and we can only hope that Charlotte can find a way to move forward.' Conor's bombshell Instagram statement read: 'Earlier this week, I took a paternity test regarding Charlotte Chiltern's baby girl Penelope, in the presence of her legal representative. 'Today I've received the test results which confirm that I am not Penelope's father. I am glad that the speculation can finally be put to an end.' He continued: 'All I would ask is that people act with kindness in response to this news - there is a child at the heart of all of this and that should not be forgotten. I wish Charlotte and her family all the best.' In the comments of the post, Conor's siblings Jack, 30, and Anna, 24, who is also the girlfriend of Traitors winner Harry Clark, showed their support with emojis. MailOnline has contacted a representative for Charlotte for comment. At the time of her shock announcement claiming that Conor was the father back in June, speaking to OK!, Charlotte said: 'He knows [I've given birth] I've not heard anything, I had real torment over whether to contact him when she was here or not. 'And I figured I don't want to speak to him, but he has a right to know. I knew if I didn't reach out people would say I hadn't bothered'. Charlotte also spoke candidly about her post natal anxiety and the fact that Penelope looks just like her alleged father. 'There have been days where I've been in tears because I'm sitting here thinking, 'I've got a daughter that looks f**king identical to you'. She went on to discuss whether she wanted Conor to be part of her daughter's life, stating: 'If she wants to walk away from him, that's fine, but she needs to make that decision for herself when she's older, I'm not going to deny her contact if he decides he wants to see her.' Conor's bombshell claim came just after Charlotte opened up about the financial hardships she faces as a single mother. In an exclusive chat with MailOnline, Charlotte explained not just the mental but practical implications of the fallout, confessing she's been forced to work around the clock as a new mum just to make ends meet. Charlotte - who has launched her recruitment consultancy business - explained: 'You struggle financially to make ends start in a new business. 'You don't take a salary very often in your first year - and I'm trying to do this whilst I've got a newborn baby - do you look after a newborn and do recruitment? It's very difficult to manage.' Charlotte continued: 'Penelope has got everything she needs don't get me wrong, she's got nice clothes, we're booked into baby massage, she's learning to swim, but that's because I put her first. I go without so she can have these things. 'If someone else were to chip in, what else could I provide for her? What else could I do? Be a mum who's present instead of a mum that's working every hour and is exhausted all the time because she's trying to make ends meet.'
