Central High School's new principal will be coming from Muscogee County
Central High School's new principal is familiar with the Columbus area. During its monthly meeting Thursday night, the Phenix City Board of Education approved Superintendent Janet Sherrod's recommendation to hire Carver High School principal Christopher Lindsey as the successor to the retiring Kerry McDonald. McDonald has been Central's principal for the past three years. He is scheduled to conclude his 30-year career in Phenix City Schools on July 1. The seven-member PCBOE's vote to approve Lindsey was 5-0. KeAnthony Brooks and Jonathan Taylor were absent. Lindsey has been Carver's principal for 20 years. He was an assistant principal at Shaw High School when the Muscogee County School District Board approved then-superintendent John Phillips' recommendation to appoint him as Carver's principal to succeed the retiring Joe Saulsbury in 2005. Then 32, Lindsey was the youngest principal among MCSD's 57 schools. Now, he is retiring from MCSD but will continue to be an education leader across the Chattahoochee River in Phenix City. Lindsey is a Hardaway High School graduate, but his mother, Constance, was a physical education teacher at Carver. His father, Eddie Lindsey Jr., also was a Muscogee County educator as principal of Spencer High School and then MCSD's first Black assistant superintendent before retiring in 1990. Chris' brother, Eddie Lindsey III, also has been a teacher and principal in MCSD. Now, this Lindsey will be Central's second Black principal; McDonald was the first.
