'Polydactylism' is a genetic mutation and is usually harmless to cats. The kitten and its mother are in foster care. He will be ready for adoption when he grows a bit. While polydactyl cats are uncommon, animal welfare sees them from time to time.
'We've seen many in the past,' said Selia Velasquez with Albuquerque Animal Welfare. 'It's not as rare as it used to be, but seeing a photo like that on social media, I know it has everyone kind of excited.' Animal welfare says the Mom was renamed Freya, and the kitten Tyr.
