Brixham sea pool set to reopen after issues with the tide
An outdoor pool is set to reopen this weekend after bosses were forced to shut the attraction because high tides failed to refill Pool in Brixham, south Devon, relies on the tide for its water. But this week's calm sea conditions meant the water did not travel high Thomas, operations manager, said: "We had a pool clean on Monday, but the tide didn't come over as expected. "To address this, we've installed a sea pump to fill the pool at high tide and we're working hard to ensure the pool is ready for the weekend." Shoalstone Pool, operated by a charity, remains free for public use. The attraction will undergo significant renovations later this summer. "We'll be closing the pool in August for essential upgrades," Mr Thomas said. "Thanks to a government grant, we'll be installing a new deep end, a raised deck, replacing railings, and reinforcing the walls to ensure safety for future generations."

Abingdon lido to reopen for good weather after criticism
An outdoor swimming pool is set to open ahead of schedule after a council was criticised for keeping it closed until Abbey Meadows outdoor pool, in Abingdon, will now reopen on Thursday until the end of the of White Horse District Council, which runs the facility, previously said running it was "expensive" and it would remain closed until 19 the council said Better UK, which manages the site, had decided to trial opening on a "weather dependent" basis, at no extra cost to the local authority. Andy Crawford, the council's leisure facilities chief, said: "This is such welcome news – and I'm sure it will be positively received by everyone who looks forward to enjoying the pool in the warm weather."This [decision] means the pool can open outside the usual school holiday opening hours for the first time in years without us having to divert funding from other important council services."The pool will now open on weekdays and weekends when the weather is good, until it fully reopens in UK said it had been "pulling out all the stops for this new early opening to capitalise on the great summer weather too".Kevin Williams, the firm's manager of its partnership with Vale of White Horse, added: "Combined with the splash pad and the kiosk, we're proud that we can provide local residents with such a fantastic way to spend their leisure time, ahead of – and during – the summer holidays." Mother nature blamed for Brixham's empty seafront pool
An outdoor pool in Devon has been left empty because "mother nature" failed to deliver at high tide, operators have Pool in Brixham was emptied and cleaned ahead of the predicted hot and sunny weekend but has yet to be refilled due to the tide not coming up high said: "Due to mother nature not playing fair, the pool will be closed due to not filling on the high tide after a pool clean. Apologies to all."They said they hoped the pump would be working and it would be full in time for the weekend. Operations manager David Thomas said the team only had "a very small window" of opportunity to clean the said: "The high tide did come but it wasn't quite high enough to fill the pool. "It was very benign, we didn't have any sort of significance of sea conditions or wind so we currently don't have a pool, we have just a big hole in the ground."Mr Thomas said the pool would be getting a refurbishment in August thanks to community and council will include the reconstruction of one of the corners of the pool and anchoring the base of the pool to the rock bed below.

I've found the UK's little-known lidos to visit ahead of 29C weather – with no queues and some are even free to enter
AS temperatures are set to hit 29C in the UK this week, there is nothing better than hopping into a cool pool. Thankfully, I've found some amazing lidos in the UK that are less crowded than some of the more well-known ones - and some are even free to visit. 5 5 We're lucky to have so many great open-air swim spots in the UK and most are run by local councils, making them an affordable day out. Some of them even share facilities with an indoor pool, so you can pay once and use both, whatever the weather. You can usually book in advance, so you won't be queuing out the door to see if you can squeeze in on a hot day. I've even seen security guards having to crowd control at some leisure centres before, but there's lots of little-known lidos that are a bit less busy, especially if you go off-peak. Our family favourite is Hitchin Lido, which has a 50m main pool, shallow toddler pool and a sandpit playground for little ones. It shares its location with an indoor pool - I remember one memorable opening day when we had only just got into the outdoor pool and a thunderstorm rolled in, so we all headed indoors to carry on swimming until it passed over. Prices this year are £7.20 per adult and £3.60 for juniors. Also nearby are Letchworth Lido and Ware Priory Lido. We're heading back to Ware for the first time in a decade this summer to check out its refurb, with a new changing village due to open soon. It's a lovely little pool and I think upgrading to heated floors, air conditioning, anti-slip tiles and hot showers in the changing area is just what is needed. Next on the cards is a new studio space and treatment rooms later this year, as this 90-year-old lido gets brought into the 21st century. It now stays open all year round, although it's not heated over the winter. An adult swim is £6.75, while children pay £3.75. One special spot that I found last year is fed by natural heated springs, so it's a good temperature all year round and no pool chemicals are used. Most of the time, the pool at the New Bath Hotel in Matlock Bath is adults-only, although they do hold one session a week over the summer holidays when swimmers aged 10 or above can attend with an adult. 5 5 It's got a lovely atmosphere, with the cliffs of the Derbyshire Dales as a backdrop, so it's well worth a visit, although it does cost £10 per swimmer. If you're not a fan of pool chemicals, Nantwich Brine Pool uses the naturally salty water to offer outdoor swimmers something different. It's at the back of a leisure centre so there's an indoor pool and changing village onsite, although the old open-air toilets are also still in use. There's an ice cream kiosk and lawned area for sunbathing. An adult and junior swim is £12.35 or £20.75 for a family swim. If you're heading to the coast, both Bude Sea Pool and Clevedon Marine Lake are tidal and free to access, although donations towards upkeep are very welcome. Here in landlocked Leicestershire, we only have one public outdoor pool, but it's a little gem. Swimming safety advice Experts have revealed some of their top advice for both adults and kids heading to the water this summer: How to stay safe at the beach Gareth Morrison, Head of Water Safety at the RNLI said: "If you find yourself being swept out to sea in a rip, try to relax and float until you are free from the rip and you can then swim to safety. "If you see someone else in danger, alert a lifeguard or call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard." How to stay safe at the swimming pool Tiny Hearts Education, former paramedic and CEO Nikki Jurcutz said: "Always put your little one in bright or contrasting colours that would be easy to find in an emergency. "It only takes 20 seconds to drown, little tips like this could save a life". An Auqabliss spokesperson added: ' Swimming toys such as noodles, dive rings, floaties and beach balls can be dangerous if left in the pool. ' Children may try to grab these from the pool's edge and fall in." How to stay safe at a waterpark Ali Beckman, Puddle Ducks Technical Director, said: "Never send a child down the slide on their own, not only are they going to be entering the slide pool area independently, they then have to exit the pool and wait for an adult. "And wave pools should be avoided until your child is really confident with water going over their faces and you know they are able to regain their feet independently. ' Waterparks are often very busy places and it's easy to lose sight of a child in a split second." Ashby Lido has a sandpit playground in the former toddler pool and has just had a facelift for the new season, with its cubicle doors painted in bright colours to give a beach hut vibe. It costs £5.70 for adults and £3.90 for children. Hopefully the warm weather is here to stay and we can all take a dip in our local lido over half term. 5

I made my own built-in outdoor pool using old palettes and a cheap paddling pool, everyone says it looks like a pro job
A DAD has shared how he built an outdoor pool using cheap buys. Pete Elliot took to social media to show off his DIY skills and people were left seriously impressed. 2 The dad said he made the pool for his son but was also reaping the benefits after slaving away on the build. He said: "Finally done. Not bad for around £315. Pretty much all the money went on the framework with £64 on varnish and a few quid on screws. "So glad I had a pallet load of timber from years ago that cost me £45, as that's the wood you see. "I didn't even scratch the surface with that wood either so the main bit you see cost under a fiver. "It is now my new favorite part of my garden." The pool looked lavish with its wooden frame and steps leading up to the decking and people were stunned by his crafting skills. He first varnished the wood before putting up the paddling pool and building the frame around it. Once it was done, he gave the wood a final varnish to ensure it didn't get spoilt by the water. Pete continued: "Hopefully many summers will be enjoyed sitting on it with my feet dangling in the pool with a beer in my hand." He later revealed that the pool was kept warm with a heated topper that also keeps it clean. Parents are scrambling to The Range to nab new kids' toys - there's inflatables, swimming pools and up to 40% off To keep the pool clean, he used a net to fish out any debris as well as chlorine tables and pool algae cleaner. The chuffed dad also said he would only keep the paddling pool up for summer and put it away when it gets cold again. The post was shared on the Facebook group, Garden Makeover Ideas On A Budget, and people were quick to praise the dad for his DIY skills. One person wrote: "Absolutely awesome, and the fact you built it probably gives you a sense of achievement, congrats."
