The Princess Manicure Is Summer's Minimalist Nail Trend

Defined by a short length and a natural, squoval shape, princess nails are directly inspired by the manicures of real-life royals. Think of the late Princess Diana's fabled nude '90s French manicure, Catherine, Princess of Wales's soft nude manicure, and Meghan Markle's elegant Montecito manicure, for example. Not to mention the late Queen Elizabeth's beautiful, signature pink manicure, created using Essie's Ballet Slippers shade. 'Leaning into a soft-glam aesthetic, princess nails are made up of sheer blush pinks, shimmers, and subtle chrome,' shares Class. If you're averse to manicures without a 3D element, a single crystal or barely-there bow will do the job. 'They're pretty and always a little bit delicate—like a modern fairy tale with a manicure.' Why are princess nails trending? Courtesy of Michelle Class Princess nails are extremely popular at the moment due to their timeless appeal. 'Muted tones signal confidence. They don't have to shout to make an impact,' says Class, noting that this is likely why it's been so widely adopted by the minimal clean girl movement. 'Plus, they go with everything,' says Class. 'A power suit, vintage denim, a wedding dress,' the options are endless. Princess nails also emanate a feeling of luxury; they look intentional and tasteful, rather than overly simple or boring. Some have said that the return to shorter nail lengths and simple color could be a reflection of the current economic turmoil many of us face. Class agrees with this possibility, sharing that, '[w]hen times feel uncertain, people tend to lean into quiet luxury and small joys.' Princess nails are an affordable indulgence—still beautiful, still expressive, but not loud or flashy. Power in nail form.

The Best Nail Shape for Mature Hands, According to a Celebrity Manicurist

The Best Nail Shape for Mature Hands, According to a Celebrity Manicurist originally appeared on Parade. There's no rules when it comes to manicures—do what is fun, flattering, exciting and joyful for you! But our nails do age with us, so we need to take extra care to keep them healthy as we get older. Our nails may grow more slowly, or become dull and brittle. So, we caught up with celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec, who has worked with Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Connie Britton, to discuss nail health, nail trends and aging. "Our skin, hair and nails all become more dehydrated with age, so drinking lots of water with electrolytes helps keep the nails flexible," Kandalec tells Parade. "Nails are supposed to be flexible. That way they bend, not break!" As we age, if our nails become brittle, she suggests "keeping a nail coating on them like a structured manicure or even just gel polish like CND Shellac, really helps to keep them intact and prevent them from peeling and splitting," she says. This would also cover opaque or yellowing nails, which can happen with age. Kandalec likes shorter nails for mature women. "I love a shorter soft square or almond shape," she says. And this summer, "a sheer white chrome mani is trending for all ages! It's beautiful and reflects just enough so that it's not too bold," she says. "Also I love putting a superfine glitter top coat over a blush pink mani, I'm wearing that on my hands now! It gives just a subtle sparkle that you really can only see close up." Other favorite current trends for Kandalec are "chrome nails, 3D flowers, micro french, and glitter french," she says. Related: 50 Best Nail Ideas for Women Over 50 Press-ons are also trending, "for good reason," Kandalec says. "They're fast and if you want just a little length and strength from home, Kiss offers some really simple to fun designs." She recommends both the no-glue options and the traditional press-ons. But never ever "peel your press-ons off, or remove them with a tool before giving them enough time to properly soak," Kandalec says. The absolute minimum is 15 minutes. Related: We also asked Kandalec about the latest trends in pedicures. "I have been seeing a ton of bare toes! Either super sheer toes, or something like Bubble Bath for a whisper of done-ness. Personally I'm wearing 2 coats of Bubble Bath with a super skinny gold glitter french," she says. "Bright neons on coral and hot pink will always be fun in the summer too." The nail colours that look outdated in summer 2025 - and the shades to pick instead

You know that feeling when you look down at your nails and think: 'They just look... wrong?' It's not chipped polish or a dodgy shape, it's just the colour. What looked chic in February is giving 'forgot to update for summer' by June. You're not wrong: nail colour trends shift with the seasons, and this summer is all about bold, clean and feminine shades. So, if you're still clinging to your usual go-to like a safety blanket (my best friend considers going from Ferrari Red to Big Apple Red as a seismic change), here are the colours to have on rotation this season. OUT: Glazed Donut Nails IN: Almond Milk Nails The pearly Glazed Donut sheen that once ruled TikTok (thanks Hailey Bieber) now feels a little too understated. A cuter neutral for summer is Almond Milk: cooler-toned and creamier, with more of a white than nude finish. OUT: Butter Yellow Soft, pastel yellows had their sunshine moment and are still dominating when it comes to clothes, but this summer's mani vibe is louder and bolder. Highlighter yellow is neon-bright, mood-lifting, and made for showing off against bronzed skin and beach towels. It's the type of thing you can only – and should only – rock in summer. OUT: Deep Red IN: Picante Red Deep, rich reds are now the staple of grandmas – this summer it's getting nudged aside by something spicier. Picante red is lighter, warmer, and leans into orange territory, like a sun-drenched chilli or the perfect paprika. It's vibrant, fiery, and perfect for those OUT: Classic French Polish IN: Fresh White All-Over The dainty French manicure has had its day. This season, it's all about committing to white. A full, opaque fresh white feels modern, confident and instantly summery, like a linen dress for your nails. Bonus: it makes even the faintest tan look golden. OUT: Brat Green IN: Tiffany Blue Punchy, hyper-green had its wild moment (thanks, Charli XCX and the party girl renaissance), but summer 2025 is softening the mood. Tiffany Blue brings back Audrey Hepburn elegance – it's polished, playful, and says 'expensive' without shouting. Think martinis, not vodka shots. OUT: Sparkly Shades IN: Iridescent Finish
