Wilder leaves Sheffield Utd after failed Premier League promotion bid
Sheffield United and manager Chris Wilder mutually agreed to part ways after the club failed to gain promotion to the Premier League, the second-tier Championship side said on Wednesday. Wilder had signed a contract extension until 2028 with the Blades earlier this year but after finishing third in the Championship, they failed to win the playoff final, losing 2-1 to Sunderland, who scored the winner deep into stoppage time. "Sheffield United can confirm a mutually agreed decision has been reached for manager Chris Wilder to leave the football club," the club said in a statement. "After returning to the club during a difficult period in 2023, he has provided stability and created a new team which earned a Steel City derby double amongst other notable highlights last season. "Showing his calibre as a manager, he guided the club to third place finish... before a heartbreaking conclusion in the playoff final." It marks the second time Wilder has left the club after his first spell in charge ended in March 2021 when they were rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, with the club eventually going down. "I'm obviously disappointed to be leaving, particularly because we were so close to getting back to the Premier League. I'm a Sheffielder through and through, I love this club and this city and that feeling will never change," Wilder said. "I depart with some cherished memories and feel proud to be talked about in the same manner that special Sheffield United managers are remembered – leading this team over 300 times will remain an incredible part of my life."

Italy appoint Gennaro Gattuso as new manager
The Italy National Team have replaced Luciano Spalletti with Gennaro Gattuso as the new manager. An update from Fabrizio Romano confirmed the managerial agreement between Gennaro Gattuso and the Italian National Team representatives. The former World Cup champion with the Azzurri is set to be appointed at the helm of the side to lead them at the next biggest tournament in football. Advertisement Spalletti became certain of his departure during the World Cup qualifiers, and he was practically out of the team when Italy played against Moldova. A statement by Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon verified the reports as he said, 'Gattuso has become the new Italy coach, we made the best possible decision.' Gattuso was a key player of the 2006 Italy National Team, which won the World Cup in Germany under manager Marcello Lippi. He formed an impeccable partnership with Andrea Pirlo in the midfield, and it was crucial to earn the Azzurri their fourth star on their crest. Trambak Bhattacherjee | GIFN

Respected music manager Lorraine Barry dies
Lorraine Barry in 2018. The international music manager has died at home in Auckland. Photo: RNZ / Yadana Saw New Zealand's music community is paying tribute to a well-respected manager who has died. Lorraine Barry came from Northern Ireland but made her home in New Zealand managing Sir Dave Dobbyn, Tom Scott, and groups such as the Avantdale Bowling Club and Home Brew. She was a board member for the New Zealand Music Commission and a mentor of developing artists. During her 16 years as international marketing manager for Virgin Records in the UK, she worked with international artists including John Lee Hooker, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, Ice T, Soul II Soul and the Spice Girls. Photo: RNZ In an interview with RNZ's The Mixtape in 2018, Barry said music was a personal thing that said so much about someone and she liked to stay in the background. "I think that's my role as a manager... My musical tastes have sort of been mine and people don't really know much about me and now you are totally exposing me to the world." Barry said she grew up in "the Troubles" in Northern Ireland - the conflict from 1968 to 1998 between Protestants and Catholics over whether Northern Ireland should stay part of the UK or become part of Ireland. Barry said it began when she was about 10, and nightlife was restricted, forcing teenagers out of Belfast and into the suburbs. This influenced her exposure to music and in her mixtape the first song she chose was the 1980 hit My Perfect Cousin by The Undertones, a rock band from Derry in Northern Ireland - partly for the accent. A death notice online said Lorraine Elizabeth Barry passed away peacefully at home in Auckland after a short illness. "Loving partner to Ross, daughter to Betty and sister to Denise. Lorraine will be sadly missed and remembered by brother in law Kenny, her nephews Robert, Philip, Andrew and David and the wider family circle." The notice said a service would be held in her home town of Whitehead, north of Belfast, at a later date.
