Geely to hold 26.4% stake in Brazilian JV majority-owned by Renault
BEIJING (Reuters) -China's Geely said on Friday it and its parent Geely Holding would take a combined 26.4% stake in a joint venture controlled by its French partner Renault as the two seek to produce and sell cars jointly in Brazil. The two automakers have entered an agreement that would see Renault take 73.57% in the venture that would focus on producing and distributing cars in Brazil under the Renault and Geely brands. It is also due to make and distribute light commercial vehicles under the Renault brand to "attract new customers", according to a filing by Geely Auto. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, the company said. Geely and Renault first announced their partnership to produce and sell zero- and low-emission vehicles in Brazil in February. The Brazilian partnership builds on the two companies' thermal engine joint venture headquartered in London and their jointly owned manufacturing plant in South Korea.

Dubai to get 637 new buses by 2026; RTA to trial electric bus in summer
The UAE and Dubai, in particular, has set high benchmarks when it comes to public transport with the city boasting of top-class metro, tram, bus and marine mobility. And the bustling emirate is aiming to improve it even further. As a step towards that goal, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has signed agreements to acquire 637 buses of various types, all compliant with the European 'Euro 6' low-emission standards. The deal includes 40 electric buses — marking the UAE's largest and first-of-its-kind order. Deliveries are scheduled for 2025 and 2026. The RTA signed agreements with senior representatives from Volvo Buses, MAN, Zhongtong Bus and Anadolu Isuzu. The RTA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese company BYD to pilot the operation of an electric bus equipped with the latest technologies and battery systems offered by the company. The trial will take place in Dubai over a period that includes the summer season.

Alleima's Kanthal division and Danieli to supply first electric process gas heater for commercial use in DRI
SANDVIKEN, Sweden, May 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Alleima's Kanthal division and Danieli will supply a pilot-scale electric process gas heater to be installed at Emsteel's Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to electrify a part of their existing heating system. The heater is based on Prothal® DH technology and will be the first electric process gas heater for DRI that Kanthal supplies for commercial use - an important step in the ongoing development project. Delivery is planned for the beginning of 2026. Emsteel is UAE's largest steel and building materials manufacturer. The Emsteel plant in Abu Dhabi produces quality long products – heavy sections, bars and wire rods – and features an Energiron DRI plant. By installing a 1-megawatt size electric process gas heater, supplied by Kanthal and Danieli, the company will take another step towards making this low-emission plant even more environmentally friendly. Prothal® DH has been developed and tested by Kanthal and is now being prepared for commercialization together with the strategic partner Danieli. When fully scaled up, this technology has the potential to completely remove the CO2 emissions from the heating process while enhancing energy efficiency. "This pilot is an important step in the development and industrialization of full-scale electric process gas heaters for DRI and other ironmaking applications. We're proud to see that the technology is now being implemented in an end-user production setting, which will enable further opportunities for future sales and commercialization," says Robert Stål, President of the Kanthal division. Kanthal and Danieli signed a strategic partnership agreement to develop and industrialize full-scale electric process gas heaters for DRI and other ironmaking applications in 2024. The heating solution is being developed for hydrogen, natural gas and combinations, thereby enabling retrofitting of existing DRI plants. By installing this technology in Energiron hydrogen-ready DRI plants, fully emission-free DRI production can be achieved. Even for natural gas based DRI plants, a more than 30% reduction of CO2 emissions will be achieved when electrifying the heating system.
