'It definitely was something I recognised reading these scripts... that we were going to be given the chance to portray queer characters in a really fun, messy, playful, honest way,' Jakob Ambrose added. 'I think it's important all our colours are seen on screen - the happy family, but also the messiness it sometimes takes to get there. Working with Liam and competing in a way has been the best way to be forced to step it up.' Fans have taken to social media to praise the long-running soap opera for creating such an engaging story. It comes after the long-running soap opera was abruptly axed in February, after Amazon did not renew their contract with production company Fremantle Australia. In response to the shock announcement, an Amazon spokesperson told MailOnline: 'Neighbours has brought so much joy over the last 40 years to its fanbase globally. 'Forty years is an incredible milestone and we are proud that Amazon MGM Studios was able to have a small part of bringing further episodes to Freevee and Prime Video customers over the last two years.' In a heartwarming post, the crew assured fans that new episodes from the 40th anniversary season would continue to be broadcast on Prime Video and Ten, with 'all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.' The show's Executive Producer Jason Herbison went on to celebrate the many years of Neighbours and the success it had experienced since its inception. 'Audiences all around the world have loved Neighbours for four decades. We are proud of the success over the last two years including often appearing as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK and the show's first ever Daytime Emmy nomination,' he said. 'As this chapter closes, we appreciate and thank Amazon MGM Studios for all that they have done for Neighbours – bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally.' He ended the post, saying: 'We value how much the fans love Neighbours and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future.' The final ever episodes will air at the end of 2025 with fans forced to say goodbye to Ramsay Street for a second time, after first being axed in February 2022.

TWO feral mums brawled in the school playground in front of terrified kids after becoming embroiled in a love triangle, a court heard. Mum-of-four Natasha Sherlock, 29, clashed with 28-year-old Samantha Rylance after accusing her of sleeping with her ex. 6 6 A court heard she yelled "do not f**ing talk to my kids" after her daughter waved at Rylance on the playground. The pair began scrapping - with mum-of-three Rylance slapping her love rival in the face, it was said. Sherlock then punched Rylance before the fight was eventually broken up - with both women ending up sporting black eyes. Police were called and CCTV of the attack was handed over by the primary school's headteacher. Sherlock stood trial for assault by beating but was cleared after insisting she acted in self-defence. But District Judge Paul Healey, who viewed the CCTV, slammed the mum. He said: ''This took place on a school playground, with parents and kids around. "It is a thoroughly unpleasant incident to witness.'' Sefton Magistrates' Court was told the violence erupted on July 10 last year as parents picked their children up from the school in Wallasey. The pair had previously been friends but fell out after Sherlock claimed Rylance had a one night stand with her ex. Rylance told the hearing she was coming to pick up her son when Sherlock insulted her from across the playground She said after collecting her son, she walked over to another playground to meet her partner Callum Roberts, who was picking up their older children. The mum told the court she saw Sherlock being "aggressive" towards her partner. She continued: "When she saw me she said 'Yes, f****ing you'. I said 'Leave it, we are on the playground. There are kids around'. "But she said, 'Come on, come on, let's go outside' and started grabbing my top. She was screaming and shouting. "She initially knocked my glasses off and as gentleman picked them she was pulling on my top. I knocked her hand away to defend myself but she swung and hit me across the face and that is when it turned into the fight itself. ''After the incident I felt awful. The kids did not want to go to school or let me to take them to school in case I got attacked again." CCTV showed Sherlock approaching Callum just moments before the fight exploded. Callum and Sherlock's dad Robert, who had also gone to the school, managed to break the sparring pair up. In her evidence Sherlock agreed she had fallen out with Rylance and added: "It was quite a bad one. "On that day she said 'Hi' to my daughter and I said 'Do not talk to my child.' I knew she was trying to wind me up. "I tried walking off but Samantha carried on screaming stuff. If anyone was attacked it was me and I hit her back. I was only aggressive when she started shouting at me." In mitigation, Sherlock's lawyer Paul Davison accused Rylance of being the "aggressor". He said: "If she is scared of the defendant and if she hears the defendant shout words when she has a young child with her, why approach unless you are looking for trouble? "You just wouldn't but she does." 6 6

In Praise of Love review – secrets and lies circle a family on the brink
Terence Rattigan distilled the unassailable emotional permafrost that settles between his upper middle-class English couples with a singular mastery. But this production shows his late work contains genuine warmth – and love – beneath the disappointments and dishonesties of married life. Longsuffering wife Lydia (Claire Price) seems stranded in her marriage to the pompous and hectoring Sebastian (Dominic Rowan) who – quite literally – cannot change a lightbulb without her assistance. When they are visited by successful American writer Mark (Daniel Abelson), who has always loved Lydia, the plot seems to promise a love triangle. But this play, written as part of a double bill in 1973, wrongfoots those expectations. It veers in several directions, from serious illness and impending death to father-son wrangles between Sebastian and Joey (Joe Edgar), who is an aspiring TV writer. Thrown into the mix is Lydia's 'outsider' status (she is Estonian) with talk of refugees as outsiders to 'Englishness' along with the lived memories of the Holocaust, as well as political debates that set Sebastian's champagne Marxism against Joey's embrace of the Liberal party. The play was said to be loosely inspired by Rex Harrison and his last (sixth) wife, Kay Kendall, who died two years after they were married, in 1959. The play creaks with female sacrifice that feels peculiarly of its time: Lydia lives in service to Sebastian, tending to his every need. And even when she suspects him of an affair, she still plans for his future welfare. Directed by Amelia Sears, the production does not try to disguise the datedness. This is a 1970s world of tiny black and white TV sets, drinks cabinets and dutiful wives. Staged four years before Rattigan died in 1977, it deals with impending death, but also the characteristic peering under the bonnet of a couple's secrets; Lydia with her illness, Sebastian with an off-stage female lover who might well be the coded homosexual partner often found in Rattigan's work. There is nervy humour and Price gives a delicate performance as Lydia, capturing the psychological subtleties of her part, while Rowan is sufficiently sledge-hammer as her boorish husband. Still, it is not as monumental a play as The Deep Blue Sea, also about the disenchantments of romance, nor is it as chamber-like as some of Rattigan's double-bills (such as Summer 1954). The parts of Joey and Mark feel like cogs to the plot, which itself is so busy that it dilutes emotional focus. But it is a tender work that leaves you with the picture of a family, fractious certainly, but loving too in their own way – and together until the end. Like so many Rattigan marriages, there are secrets and lies here but underneath there is a love that smoulders. At Orange Tree theatre, London, until 5 July
