Australian band DZ Deathrays suffer major loss as fire rips through Sydney warehouse
An Australian band have revealed that they suffered a major loss after a fire broke out in a Sydney warehouse. About 60 firefighters were called to the fire in Marrickville's industrial estate that broke out just before 3.30am on Wednesday night, closing roads and covering the inner suburb with thick smoke. Aussie band DZ Deathrays took to social media on Thursday to reveal that the fire had ripped through their vinyl and merchandise, leaving thousands of their fans disappointed who had ordered from them. 'FYI everyone. Our merch warehouse went up in flames last night so we have lost all our merch and vinyl in Australia,' wrote the band on Instagram. 'Thankfully no one was injured. If you were waiting on any merch items we are sorry, we will be in touch.' 'Sorry to hear. Hope we could do something to help!' commented one fan on the video. 'Bloody hell! Sorry to hear lads, glad to hear everyone is OK!' remarked another. A third chimed in, adding: 'Devastating loss, so glad no one was hurt!' Isaac Broadbent, who works for The Araca Group, a company specialising in music and theatre merchandise, said the burnt-out building was filled with flammable stock. 'The building was full of cardboard boxes, T-shirts, tour programs, vinyl records, mugs, hats, beanies. Whatever caused the fire, all that would have gone up in seconds,' he said. The fire was brought under control by 5.30am, but Cook Rd between Addison Rd and Victoria Rd remained closed on Thursday morning. Firefighters were still trying to extinguish the blaze as of 7.30am but confirmed they had prevented it from spreading to any neighbouring businesses. Fire and Rescue NSW's Greg Rankin told Today there were no reports of anyone inside the building at the time or firefighters being injured. He said the area was under a flight path, with crews liaising with airport authorities and police as flights started arriving in Sydney. 'We had our drone go up and do a search of the area,' he said. 'The smoke is … settled down, it's staying quite low-level. '(Firefighters have) checked the structure next door and there was no fire penetration into that, which has been great, so they've contained the fire to that property of origin.' The cause of the fire is so far unknown.

Coronation Street's Georgia May Foote suffers huge loss as fire rips though her beauty business
Former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote has suffered a huge loss after a fire ripped through her beauty business on Wednesday. The actress-turned-beautician, 34, who is best known for playing Katie Armstrong on the ITV soap, explained how the storage unit near Manchester caught ablaze. She said a slew of small studios and businesses, including her own, were affected by the blaze in an update shared to Instagram. Speaking in the clip, Georgia said: 'Unfortunately my little business was affected by a huge fire within the storage works unit in Middleton last night. 'Not only has my business burned down, but so has many other people's most loved possessions.' The former Strictly contestant then pleaded with fans to come forward with a donation, to help cover the costs of all the stock and equipment lost in the fire. Georgia continued: 'Even though as beauticians we can move into a new space, our stock and tools which we spend years collecting have all gone. 'We can no longer work, my friends and beauticians have to start again, with no way of making the money to buy these tools. I'm asking you all to give a little to help my friends rebuild their business.' The actress has endured a tumultuous time of late as she's recently opened up about a series of health struggles, including the skin condition vitiglio. Last year she appeared on This Morning Live, where she spoke about the condition which is caused by a lack of pigment in the skin. Then after a holiday to Egypt in May 2024, she shared a photo of her hands with the caption: 'Every time I go on holiday and I get a beautiful tan, I see how much my vitiligo has spread more than ever before. 'I would be lying if I didn't say it gets to me. It makes me feel super insecure at times. But seeing how the people around me support me and still love me the same makes my heart feel full. 'I've noticed people staring, having a good old nosey with their faces screwed up, and that's when my heart drops. 'So this is just a friendly reminder to those people to be kind. I'm sure the way it makes you feel is nothing in comparison to how the person with it feels.' After a holiday to Egypt, the Strictly Come Dancing runner up shared a picture of her hands and uploaded a lengthy post urging people to be kind The TV actress then expressed her wish to be a spokesperson for the unsightly condition. 'I'm proud to be a voice for people like me with the condition. I battle with how I feel about it every day,' she said. 'Today's one of those days I remember there is nothing I can do about it. So here we are. Showing it in all its glory (I do have lipstick on, but my whole colour has now gone in and around my lips).' During her time on Corrie, Georgia's character Katy was the youngest daughter of Owen Armstrong (Ian Puleston-Davies) and the sister of Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston). Georgia enjoyed some spicy storylines, including a surprise pregnancy and an affair. But then in 2017 showrunners gave her character an offscreen death, after she was written out via a car accident, closing the door on any future comebacks. Aside from showbuisness, Georgia is married to musician Kris Evans and the pair celebrated a year of being married last July.

'It feels like I'm grieving him all over again'
A devastating fire at a storage unit in Middleton has seen people losing irreplaceable family keepsakes, including of deceased loved ones. Fortunately no-one was injured in the fire, which the Manchester Evening News understands has involved lithium ion batteries. However, many people have been left grieving the loss of precious keepsakes which any potential insurance compensation will not be able to replace. She said: "My dad passed away two years ago really suddenly, he got poorly on Monday and died on the Sunday, he was only 48. "He had a big toolbox with all the tools from over the years, he collected Lego, we're talking limited edition pieces. "I thought when I had kids I could pass his Lego on to them so they could have something of his, but now it's probably all gone." Mental health worker Mollie has been left devastated by the fire. "I've been crying since I found out it was on fire," she said. "I'm in shock that it's even happening. "I've not grieved my dad, and it feels like I'm grieving him all over again. I would give anything to sit with his stuff again." Ann Howarth had also stored her late father's belongings in the facility. She said: "This has left me devastated beyond words. My dad raised me himself from being born. He was my everything. He died a couple of years ago. "I decided to pack up all of my personal items, and my daughters and everything of my dad's, on Monday this week. I put it all in storage world in Middleton, everything - paperwork, legal documents, my whole life and all of my memories. "Then just two days later, it goes up in flames. It very much looks like I have lost everything, things I can never get back. "To say that I am broken is an understatement. There are no words to describe it." Engineer Anthony Davies also had precious keepsakes from his late father in the lock-up. "It's stuff that you're never going to get back through insurance," he said. "It's pictures, a watch that he left me, he smoked a pipe and his favourite pipe was in there. He did run for Manchester City years ago and he got a medal, that was in there. "You expect things to be safe don't you?" Luanna Kelly was also impacted by the fire, and told the MEN: "Me and my partner are completely upset and broken. "We have stuff in there that is sentimental and that money can't replace like a picture of my partner's grandma and first holy communion stuff. "We are completely heartbroken." Quan Le shared that he used the facility to help run his business, which has been left devastated by the fire. He said: "I'm really struggling emotionally right now. I couldn't sleep at all last night. I haven't had the strength to go down there and see everything burnt – it's just too much." Crews from across Greater Manchester rushed to the fire yesterday as sickly yellow-tinged smoke belched from the windows. On June 19 the fire continued into a second day, with the roof of the building collapsing, and with it the hopes of many people to recover irreplaceable possessions. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: 'Crews have worked hard overnight to contain the fire at the commercial premises on Old Hall Street, Middleton. 'Six fire engines, the aerial unit and scorpion remain in attendance to tackle pockets of fire and make the building safe in challenging conditions. "Road closures remain in place with nearby residents advised to keep their doors and windows shut." A spokesperson for Storage World, the company which runs the unit, said: "Our Middleton store has suffered a serious fire. Authorities are currently in attendance and we will be contacting customers as soon as the situation has settled and we can assess the damage. This will be no later than Friday afternoon. "Please do not contact us directly but wait for us to communicate with you, as this will allow us to manage the current situation and ensure all customers are given accurate information as soon as possible."
