Nude Iowa woman arrested after stealing American flags, burning them: Police
A southern Iowa woman is facing charges after authorities say she took her clothes off, stole American flags and set them on fire this month. Brianna Laird, 21, is facing charges after a caller said she burned stolen American flags on June 16, per court documents obtained by USA TODAY. While burning American flags is protected under the First Amendment, Laird was charged with third-degree arson, assault on an officer, indecent exposure, interference with official acts, fifth-degree criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia and fifth-degree theft, per online court records. A lawyer for Laird did not immediately respond to requests for comment on June 20. On June 16, someone called dispatchers about a woman in Bussey, Iowa, about 60 miles southeast of Des Moines. The caller said a nude woman was 'lighting American flags on fire,' according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY. When Marion County deputies arrived, they allegedly found Laird, who had an American Flag tied around her head and was not wearing pants or underwear. Authorities said Laird had taken the flags, which belong to the city of Bussey, and damaged them. She gave police a fake name and when deputies tried to arrest her, she hit one of them in the face, the documents said. Deputies eventually got her into the back seat of a patrol vehicle, but before one deputy could shut the door, she kicked them. When she arrived at the jail, authorities searched Laird's bag and found drug paraphernalia inside, the court documents say. Flag desecration and burning have long been a point of discussion among U.S. lawmakers. The issue has been hotly contested in past cases, such as a June 1966 incident in which a Brooklyn veteran burned an American flag on a street corner after he learned that civil rights activist James Meredith was shot, according to the Freedom Forum. When the veteran was arrested for violating a New York flag desecration law, he said, 'Yes, that is my flag; I burned it. If they let that happen to Meredith, we don't need an American flag.' The New York Court of Appeals argued that flag burning was an attempt to incite violence, posing a danger to public peace. While the Supreme Court did not rule on the flag desecration law he was accused of breaking, it did rule that he could not be punished for "verbally disrespecting the flag," per the Freedom Forum. The Supreme Court reversed and remanded the case because lawmakers could not come to an agreement about whether he was convicted for burning the flag or the words he said at the time. While there are some state flag desecration laws, if enforced, they are likely to be overruled. According to the Freedom Forum, freedom of speech applies to more than spoken words. That means expressions such as burning the flag, books, newspaper articles, online posts, theater and dance and even video games are considered "symbolic speech." There are some instances in which citizens could be charged for desecrating the flag even if the act of burning the flag itself is protected, the Freedom Forum said. Those who burn the flag in places with high fire risks could face charges for the act of burning something, the Freedom Forum said. And like the most recent case out of Iowa, stealing someone else's flag to burn could also be criminal, the organization said. "Burning the flag to deliberately provoke a violent response from someone else or in order to incite others to imminent lawless violence is not protected either," the Freedom Forum said. Pee-wee Herman star Paul Reubens confronted 'pedophile' rumors in secret recording one day before his death
Paul Reubens, best known for his iconic role as Pee-wee Herman, finally spoke out about the disturbing rumors that followed him for years — in a private recording revealed after his death. The message appears in Pee-wee's Himself, the posthumous HBO documentary that premiered Friday. Reubens, who died of cancer in July 2023 at age 70, had spent decades dealing with speculation and public fallout after a string of legal troubles that brought his once-booming career to a halt. In the film, he opens up about his 1991 arrest for indecent exposure at an adult theater in Sarasota, Florida, calling it a defining — and deeply misunderstood — moment. 'It really backfired when I got arrested,' he says. 'People had never seen a photo of me other than [as] Pee-wee Herman, and then all of a sudden I had a Charles Manson mug shot. It's shocking what hideous, horrible, mean stuff people say and think about me.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Things got worse years later when police raided his home and seized his collection of vintage homoerotic art — some of which was categorized as child pornography. Reubens was never convicted, but the incident fueled damaging rumors that stuck with him. Now, in what turned out to be his final recording — made privately just one day before he passed — Reubens finally addressed it all head-on. 'More than anything, the reason I wanted to make a documentary was to let people see who I really am and how painful and difficult it was to be labeled something that I wasn't… a pedophile,' he said. 'I wanted somehow for people to understand that my whole career, everything I did and wrote, was based in love.' Reubens also comes out as a gay man in the documentary, offering a candid insight into his experience as a closeted man in Hollywood. 'I was secretive about my sexuality even to my friends [out of] self-hatred or self-preservation,' he shared in over 40 hours of interview. 'I was conflicted about sexuality. But fame was way more complicated.' Reubens debuted his character Pee-wee Herman in 1981 at the famed improv theater The Groundlings, and as the character gained fame, he intentionally kept his personal life out of the spotlight. 'More than anything, the reason I wanted to make a documentary was to let people see who I really am and how painful and difficult it was to be labeled something that I wasn't… a pedophile,' he said; Reubens is pictured on location filming 'Pee-wee's Big Holiday' in May 2015 Once hailed as the charming and eccentric star of Pee-wee's Playhouse, Reubens found himself labeled a 'deviant' and 'pervert' Reflecting on that time, he said, 'I was out of the closet, and then I went back in the closet. I wasn't pursuing the Paul Reubens career; I was pursuing the Pee-wee Herman career.' Reubens admitted that he had 'many, many secret relationships,' but reiterated that his professional life always took priority over his love life. Following his 1991 arrest, Reubens shifted away from his Pee-wee persona, taking on a range of supporting roles throughout the '90s. He showed his versatility in Tim Burton's Batman Returns (1992), the cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer film, and a recurring stint on Murphy Brown. In the 2000s, he popped up in films like Mystery Men (1999) and Blow (2001), where he shared the screen with Johnny Depp. In his 60s, he brought the character back with a Broadway run of The Pee-wee Herman Show in 2010 and later a Netflix film in 2016. His final on-screen moment came in a cameo for Hulu's Quiz Lady.

Middle class mom hires bodyguard for court appearance after she was filmed committing obscene road rage act
A Pennsylvania mom who allegedly defecated on a vehicle in a bizarre case of road rage has hired a bodyguard to accompany her to court. Christina Solometo, 44, appeared at Prospect Park District Court on Monday for a preliminary hearing into the wild offense that was caught on camera last month. The clip shows a woman, dubbed the 'Delco Popper', dropping her pants, squatting over the hood of a car in Prospect Park, Delaware County, before delectating on it. Her attorney David Klayman advised Fox News that Solomento had hired a guard due to receiving threats, after the clip was circulated on social media. Solometo was charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, harassment and depositing waste after she was arrested on May 2. In court on Monday, officials added another count of open lewdness as witness Greg Ferrari, 17, was called. Ferrari had captured the moment that she allegedly defecated on the vehicle, he told the court he was heading to his friends house at the time of the incident. According to the teenager he had to stop as he saw two women in a heated confrontation, and decided to record it. According to Fox, he told the court: 'One of the people ended up going to the bathroom on the other's car.' Ferrari identified the woman that he captured on video as being Solometo, saying that the other driver had been shouting insults at Solometo. Outside of court, Ferrari admitted to awaiting reporters that since the clip went viral he has become somewhat of a celebrity due to the attention it has received. He said: 'It's pretty crazy. I mean it's something you'd never expect. I just got done [at] school. I got called out of school for this.' Klayman argued in court that the charges against Solometo do not accurately portray what happened that day and that the other driver is also to blame. Speaking of the threats, he told Fox: 'It's traumatic because it's all over the media. There are people making t-shirts, hats. Making threatening comments. 'When we are talking about a person. Just because it's not your best day doesn't mean you should be harassed continuously.' Solometo is expected back in court to be formally arraigned on July 9. According to court documents she allegedly told police, 'It was a clean poop. I didn't even have to wipe.' Solometo allegedly claimed she had acted out of restraint rather than rage. 'The other driver called me a bad name,' she said. 'So I dropped a deuce instead of turning violent.' Prospect Park Police Chief Dave Madonna told NBC after the clip surfaced that: 'This can't happen in this community. 'No town wants this to happen in their town. The recognition a town gets over this kind of thing - it's really unwelcome. We don't want this.' 'I know it's being joked on a lot. There's all kinds of puns and innuendos online. But bottom line, we are treating it seriously.' It has also since emerged that Solometo is an adult content creator with an OnlyFans page. Her page promises subscribers an intimate 'toe-tally' experience, including decorated toenails, toe jewelry, and personalized fetish content. When a reporter for Philadelphia Magazine messaged Solometo to ask if her public defecation had any connection to fetish content she offers, her response was vulgar. 'You want me to f***ing s*** on you? I want 5k and I'm bringing a bodyguard!' Her reply was sent via a Facebook account Solometo operates under the alias 'Christina M. Shythead.'
