Blue state GOP lawmakers urge major healthcare change for illegal immigrants

EXCLUSIVE: Colorado congressional Republicans are asking the state to stop allowing illegal immigrants to enroll in the state's Medicaid program, Health First Colorado. The program's availability to those in the country illegally who meet other requirements for coverage started this year, and the Republicans pitched changes in a letter to Democratic Gov. Jared Polis Wednesday. On Health First Colorado's website, it says, "Don't let immigration status stop you from applying for health coverage," citing state law. "Other Democrat-run states like California and Minnesota are beginning to walk back their policies that offer free and subsidized health care to illegal immigrants even without the One Big Beautiful Bill Act being law because they know that these policies are expensive, bad deals for their Medicaid beneficiaries," the letter from representatives Gabe Evans, Jeff Crank and Lauren Boebert states. "It is disheartening to see Colorado continue to double down and prioritize individuals who are unlawfully present even in the face of adverse impacts on Americans who need Medicaid the most, and we urge you to reverse course," the Republicans added. As the letter notes, Colorado is one of seven states that offer public healthcare coverage that does not factor in one's immigration status. California, Minnesota and Illinois are making reforms to their Medicaid offerings, according to The Wall Street Journal. Minnesota and Illinois are ending the availability as part of budget deals, and California is navigating different options, like a possible enrollment freeze, as its legislature hashes out a budget. In California, a recent poll revealed nearly 60% oppose Medicaid for illegal immigrants despite the law going into effect last year. The lawmakers added that the reconciliation bill includes a provision that will significantly penalize states that provide coverage to illegal immigrants because the Medicaid programs receive both federal and state taxpayer dollars. "There is a renewed urgency to revise this policy in light of the likely enactment of federal legislation to reduce the Medicaid [Federal Medical Assistance Percentage] for the expansion population from 90% to 80% for sanctuary states who use taxpayer dollars to cover illegal immigrants. As you know, this change would pose significant budgetary challenges to Colorado – but only if the state continues to pursue this policy," the letter states. A spokesperson for Polis' office told Fox News Digital in a statement that the reconciliation bill in the U.S. Senate should be completely redone from the House version. "Governor Polis is disappointed these three lawmakers are trying to gut Medicaid and kick people off private insurance, which would raise insurance costs for everyone who buys commercial insurance because of cost-shifting. Thanks to their votes — which they're trying to distract from — nearly 400,000 Coloradans would lose health care, which would also raise costs for everyone else," the statement said. "Governor Polis continues calling on the Senate to start from scratch with this terrible bill, including truly protecting Medicaid and extending critical subsidies for those who purchase plans off the health exchange so Coloradans can afford health care."

Countries who won't take back illegal migrants face visa crackdown as Keir FINALLY admits Channel crisis is spiralling

COUNTRIES who refuse take back their illegal immigrants face visa crackdowns - as Sir Keir Starmer finally admits the Channel crisis is getting worse. The Prime Minister is drawing up proposals to make "smarter use" of letting people into the UK if their home countries don't take back failed asylum seekers. 3 3 3 Britain already has returns agreements with around a dozen countries including Albania, India, Vietnam and Nigeria. Discussions on the matter were a central part of the PM's discussions with France, Germany and Italy while at the G7 summit in Canada as the small boats issue overshadows the government. The PM said that he "made clear that we are looking at issues like a smarter use of our visas". He added: "So that looking at whether we should tie our visas to the work that the countries we're dealing with are doing on preventative measures and on return agreements, and so we were very specific in what we were doing yesterday." "But you know, do we need to do more? Yes, we do, and it's by working together that I think we can achieve that." He added: "We have done a number of bilateral returns agreements. So the question is, again, whether it is possible to go a bit beyond that. "Including looking at this question of visas now and whether we can't be a bit smarter with the use of our visas in relation to countries that don't have a returns agreement with us.' When asked if it would mean issuing fewer visas, he said: "Yeah, it would be much more sort of transactional, if you like. Now, we're looking into it, but certainly I think there are areas like that that we should look more closely at.' The push on visa restrictions comes as there was an acknowledgement by Downing Street during a meeting with France's Emmanuel Macron that there was a "deteriorating situation" in the Channel. Both sides are now looking at innovative solutions to try and solve the issue. It's understood to be the first time Number 10 has explicitly said the small boats crisis is getting worse rather than better. Figures show that more than 16,000 migrants have made the perilous journey from France this year alone. The PM declined to say after a year in power his policies had failed but said: "It is a serious challenge that requires serious responses to it. We are working much more closely already with our French counterparts." There is a UK-France summit in July where both sides have agreed to find "high-ambition". Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: 'This is an admission of failure, under Starmer's watch, the Channel crisis is spiralling out of control. The year 2025 is so far the worst on record with over 16,000 illegal crossings already this year – 42 per cent more than last year. 'And what's Labour's answer? To ask the British taxpayer to foot the bill for their accommodation or to pay half a billion pounds for the French to wave the boats off and do next to nothing to prevent Channel crossings. 'The gangs are laughing, the boats keep coming, and Labour's response is to form another taskforce and hold a summit. It's weak and it's embarrassing.'

FBI confirms capture of 2 of 4 illegal immigrants who escaped from Newark ICE facility

FBI officials in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday confirmed that two of four escaped illegal immigrant inmates have been detained. The four inmates, whom the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described as "public safety threats," broke out of Delaney Hall, a privately run ICE detention facility on the evening of June 12. The FBI announced Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez's and Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada's captures on Sunday, while Franklin Norberto Bautista Reyes and Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon remain at-large. The four suspects are from Honduras. DHS is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrests. Ice Officers Assaulted During Raid That Nabbed 70 Illegal Immigrants Bautista-Reyes illegally entered the U.S. in 2021 under the Biden administration and was arrested by the Wayne Township, New Jersey, Police Department on May 3 for aggravated assault, attempt to cause bodily injury, terroristic threats, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. Read On The Fox News App Sandoval-Lopez illegally entered the U.S. as a minor in 2019 and was arrested by the Passaic Police Department in October for unlawful possession of a handgun and again on February 15 for aggravated assault. Castaneda-Lozada entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 and was arrested by the Hammonton Police Department on May 15 for burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary. SUSPECTS STILL ON THE RUN: Pineda-Mogollon entered the U.S. in 2023 and overstayed his tourist visa. He was arrested by the New York City Police Department on April 25 for larceny and again on May 21 by the Union, New Jersey, Police Department for residential burglary, conspiracy to commit residential burglary and possession of burglary tools. Immigration attorney Mustafa Cetin told that around 50 detainees at the private facility pushed down a dormitory wall after becoming agitated when meals were delayed. "It's about the food, and some of the detainees were getting aggressive and it turned violent," Cetin said. At approximately 9 p.m. on June 12, a group of protesters blocked an SUV from exiting an ancillary gate at Delaney Hall, forcing it to back into the facility. DHS contested reporting that there had been widespread unrest at the facility, saying the private detention center "remains dedicated to providing high-quality services, including around-the-clock access to medical care, in-person and virtual legal and family visitation, general and legal library access, translation services, dietician-approved meals, religious and specialty diets, recreational amenities, and opportunities to practice their religious beliefs." Vehicles worth R1m used to commit offences forfeited to state

In another order, a silver Hyundai Sonata vehicle valued at R110,000 and R7,500 in cash were forfeited after a significant drug seizure in Upington. Police recovered: 9,315 Mandrax pills valued at R931,500; eight packets of tik valued at R603,600; and four packets of cocaine valued at R554,400. The drugs were found in the presence of the driver and a passenger. In the third matter, a bronze Toyota Corolla 1.3 Prestige, valued at R132,000 and held at the Philipstown SAPS, was forfeited to the state after being used to transport narcotics. The vehicle concealed drugs inside a tyre, including Mandrax valued at R30,000 and dagga valued at R631,800. A white Mercedes-Benz valued at R306,300 which was seized in Springbok was forfeited after being used to transport dagga mixed with hydroponic cannabis. The drugs were valued at R80,000. An Isuzu truck valued at R275,000 was seized and forfeited after it was found transporting illegal gambling machines in Kuruman. Six foreign nationals were arrested, including three Chinese and three Tanzanians. All six were found to be in the country illegally without valid travel documentation. 'These forfeitures mark a decisive and strategic intervention by the NPA and its AFU in disrupting the economic infrastructure that sustains criminal enterprises.' He said by targeting the vehicles, cash and other assets used in or acquired through criminal activity, the AFU was not only weakening the operational capabilities of organised crime networks but also removing the financial incentives that fuelled repeat offending. Bystanders jump in front of ICE vehicles with arrested migrants inside after raid on meat packing plant

Horrified locals threw themselves in front of Immigration and Customs Enforcement vans which had been loaded with dozens of illegal migrants picked up in a raid on a meat packing plant. ICE agents stormed Glenn Valley Foods processing plant in Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday and arrested up to 80 illegal immigrants working under fake IDs. Shocking footage emerged on Tuesday of the moment three bystanders who had gathered outside the manufacturing plant blocked the path of a tinted black van. Even as the agent behind the wheel of the car began driving toward them, the trio refused to move out of the way, clutching their phones to their chests as they filmed the moment the van ploughed them down. As horrified bystanders shouted a nd pleaded, the trio jumped onto the bonnet of the van, which abruptly came to a halt, tossing them off the hood. 'You f***ing ran me over,' one of the men said to the agent as he stepped out of the car, in the video captured by Flatwater Free Press. Moments later, the agent jumped behind the wheel again and sped off at speed, with at least one woman still stuck on the front of the car. 'You're not taking those people,' a bystander shouted as an agent approached the woman who moments earlier was on the car. 'Don't touch me, don't touch me,' she repeatedly said. Others used rocks and sticks in an effort to break the back window of the car and free the people who were detained inside the car. One ICE officer approached a boy who was trying to break into the car and roughly shoved him to the ground, telling him to 'get back.' When the boy got to his feet again, he spat on the agent. It's understood at least three 15-passenger vans were loaded with illegal migrants, while others were escorted onto a bus with boarded up windows. The cars were joined by a law enforcement escort as they left the plant. Gary Rohwer, owner and CEO of Glenn Valley Foods, told local media outlet WOWT that federal agents told him 97 employees were using false IDs. He said his company had used e-Verify during the hiring process and that he was unaware that any of his staff were working in the United States illegally. 'They're good, hardworking, honest,' he said. 'They're part of our family.' Rohwer said he was not aware of the raid beforehand and that ICE agents began screening his staff. 'They had a list of 97 employees that they screened. If they're okay then they'll be coming back to work. If they're not okay, they won't be back.' According to witnesses, staff were being separated into two groups within the plant - those who could verify their legal working status and those who couldn't. Relatives of workers reportedly rushed to the scene, some trying to bring documentation for their loved ones. ICE spokesperson Tanya Roman confirmed that agents 'executed a federal search warrant at Glenn Valley Foods, today, based on an ongoing criminal investigation into the large-scale employment of aliens without authorization to work in the United States.' She said despite reporting otherwise, the Glenn Valley Foods raid was the only operation in the Omaha region to take place on Tuesday. Mayor John Ewing Jr., who only officially took office on Monday, said he and his team were 'trying to get to the bottom of what happened today. 'We know that actions like these affect families. My administration is working with community groups to understand the scale of need,' the mayor said. 'We do not want people to be so afraid they stop reporting crimes. Our Omaha Police Department will respond to 911 calls and not ask about legal status.' Ewing reiterated that Ohama police officers 'do not and will not seek individuals to check their legal status.' Several small protests sprung up around Omaha in the wake of the raids on Tuesday, following a similar pattern to the timeline of demonstrations in Los Angeles. Protesters gathered to condemn raids across Downtown LA on Friday, but community anger spiraled throughout the weekend and led to violent riots. President Trump sent in about 700 Marines and a total of 4,100 National Guard troops to regain control of the crisis, sparking fury from state Democrats and community leaders.
