Man, 36, dead after head-on highway crash north of Winnipeg
A head-on crash on Highway 8 north of Winnipeg claimed the life of a 36-year-old man on Tuesday. RCMP say a large truck was heading south when a northbound car suddenly veered into its path around 11 a.m., just north of Bay Road in the rural municipality of St. Andrews. Emergency crews found the truck on its side in the west ditch and the car in the middle of the highway, which was shut down to traffic. The 36-year-old man, from Winnipeg, was pronounced dead on scene. He was the sole occupant of the car. The 67-year-old man driving the truck, from St-Pierre-Jolys, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The highway re-opened around 3:40 p.m. following an examination of the scene by RCMP.

75-year-old airlifted to hospital after car flipped when tire blew out on Hwy 395
A 75-year-old woman needed to be flown to the hospital after a burst tire caused her to wreck on Highway 395 Monday afternoon. Linda J. Elston, of Colfax, was heading south on the highway in a Toyota Camry when the driver's side rear tire blew out about a mile outside of Mesa around 1 p.m., the Washington State Patrol said in a traffic memo. Elston tried to get control of the vehicle as it began to swerve, but it flipped and landed on its top, Washington State Patrol and dispatch reports said. She needed to be freed from the car, Trooper Daniel Mosqueda told the Tri-City Herald. She was flown to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available, but Mosqueda said she was expected to recover. The Highway 395 crash was one of two to send someone to the hospital on Monday. Matthew Synhavong, 31, of Kennewick, was riding a 2013 Honda motorcycle west on Highway 12 on the east side of Pasco about 3:15 p.m. when he hit gravel on the highway, Mosqueda said. He lost control of the motorcycle and wrecked, the state patrol said in a traffic memo. He was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available, but he was able to talk to investigators about what happened in the crash, Mosqueda said. Synhavong was cited for riding without insurance or a motorcycle endorsement.
