How to upholster a headboard on a budget
Q . I want to do a bedroom makeover for my young daughter and love the idea of upholstering a new headboard. Is there a cost-effective way of achieving this?

A. Working on TV makeover shows, I've learnt that upholstering can create maximum effect on a minimal budget.
To start, you need a board to which you can attach your fabric. I recommend a sheet of 18mm MDF, which you can get cut at a timber yard or DIY store for free. A standard headboard is typically the width of your mattress, with a height of approximately 70cm.
If you have the tools and skills, I would use a jigsaw to cut a curve around the top corners, softening the edges and giving an on-trend look.
