Ulike Hair Removal: A Look At The Brand's Most Advanced IPL Device

This article was created in partnership with Ulike to showcase its Air 10 IPL hair removal device. The Air 10 is designed with cutting-edge features to help you achieve smooth skin that lasts. Swimsuit season is here, and you might be considering ways to get rid of stubborn body hair. As an alternative to razors or at-home waxing kits, which have short-term results, Ulike hair removal devices use intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to target melanin in the hair follicles, putting them into a dormant state to hinder further growth. The brand's most advanced device—the lightweight Ulike Air 10—is built to deliver full-body hair reduction with results in as little as two weeks. Plus, its skin protection and cooling features help ensure safety and comfort with each session. Right now, you can save 26% on your purchase. Here's everything you need to know about the Ulike Air 10 so you can decide if it's right for you (make sure to refer to the brand's hair and skin tone chart to determine if IPL hair removal is a suitable option for you). Flashes: 300,000 | Light type: IPL | Power modes: 4 | FDA-cleared: Yes The Ulike Air 10 has a wide treatment surface and powerful dual lights to visibly reduce hair in just two weeks when you use it every other day. With the device's quick-flashing AutoGlide mode, you can tackle your legs, armpits, arms, bikini line, face and chest in around 10 minutes. Sapphire Ice Cooling technology helps the Air 10 maintain a 65-degree-Fahrenheit contact temperature to minimize burns, pain and irritation with use—even in sensitive regions. Plus, its SkinSensor automatically adapts the intensity of each flash to your skin tone, pausing in areas that are darker (and therefore absorb higher levels of energy) to ensure adequate protection. The Ulike Air 10's four power modes allow you to customize treatment depending on how thick your hair is and which body part you are targeting. Fast mode is ideal for regular maintenance, large areas and quick touch-ups; Normal is best for removing fine-to-normal hair on most body parts; High is meant for removing coarse hair on the arms, legs, chest and back; and the laser-inspired Super Hair Removal (SHR) mode powerfully disrupts growth on the armpits, chest, beard or bikini line. When you use SHR mode for your every-other-day sessions in the first two weeks, you can expect up to a 96% reduction in hair density. IPL offers a range of benefits compared to other hair removal options. While shaving and waxing can cause redness, burns and skin irritation, and only remove hair for a short period of time, IPL is nearly painless for most and delivers long-lasting results. In terms of convenience, laser hair removal usually requires visiting a clinic for professional treatment, but you can use the Ulike Air 10 from the comfort of your home. Plus, it's a far less expensive method than laser hair removal, and you skip the costs of either salon or at-home waxing treatments or shaving supplies as well. The Ulike Air 10 is currently 26% off, so if you shop now, you can save even more. To use the Ulike Air 10, prepare your skin by shaving hairs longer than 2mm. Then pick your mode, place the device against your target area and engage the flashes to begin treatment. The brand recommends using the Air 10 three times a week for the first month followed by biweekly or monthly sessions for touch-ups. Each treatment encourages body hair to grow back thinner, lighter and less often. Flashes: 300,000 | Light type: IPL | Power modes: 3 | FDA-cleared: Yes The Air 3—Ulike's baseline hair removal device—is easy to use and provides noticeable hair reduction in as little as three weeks, making it Forbes Vetted's pick for the best full-body at-home laser hair removal device. Use Soft mode for your face and upper lip, Body mode for your arms and legs, and Power mode for your bikini area and armpits. You can remove hair from your entire body in about 12 minutes using the thumb-free AutoGlide mode. Plus, like the Air 10, the Air 3 is designed with Sapphire Ice Cooling technology to help prevent burns and irritation. Flashes: 300,000 | Light type: IPL | Power modes: 3 | FDA-cleared: Yes While Ulike devices are gender-neutral, the Ulike X features a mode with high energy output to tackle the thick body hair commonly found on men's armpits, face, pubic area, abdomen and more. It has a wide treatment window and dual lights for effective results, cooling technology and sensors to safely adjust the intensity of flashes. The intensity levels are Normal for eliminating fine to medium hair, Fast for quick touch-ups and High for thick, coarse hair. Additional modes include AutoGlide for treating large areas and Manual for precise removal. While Ulike hair removal devices can't permanently stop hair from growing back, regular maintenance sessions help keep the follicles dormant, preventing regrowth over time. For prolonged results, the brand recommends one or two treatments per month (after doing three sessions a week for the first month). You might be able to stop using the device for an extended period; however, it's possible your hair will return in six to 12 weeks, requiring additional follow-up sessions. While laser hair removal works by flashing rays to burn hair follicles, IPL uses mild light beams that induce follicles into a dormant state. While side effects are possible with either approach, those caused by IPL tend to be less severe. Ulike hair removal is also nearly painless for most, due to having a lower intensity than laser and incorporating cooling technology into its devices. IPL also uses a broad spectrum of light that can adjust to different skin types and hair colors; laser hair removal uses an intense, single-focused wavelength that is more likely to cause damage.

The 7 Best At-Home Wax Kits for Smooth, Hair-Free Skin

Waxing can feel like an expensive, painful chore; or it can be quick, efficient, and done from the comfort of your own bathroom with one of the best at-home wax kits. Whether you're using a soft gel wax that requires a wooden spatula and some grit or opting for pre-waxed strips that don't even need to be heated, at-home waxing has come a long way. Many kits are now beginner-friendly, mess-free, and gentle enough for sensitive areas like the face or bikini line, making them a cost-effective alternative to salon visits for small touch-ups. Now, to be clear—these kits still hurt (you're ripping hair from the root, after all). But with the right consistency and formula, the experience can be way less brutal. Below, we tapped two board-certified dermatologists to break down everything you need to know: how to prep your skin, what the 24-hour rule is, what to look for in an at-home wax kit, and how to prevent pesky ingrown hairs. We also rounded up seven of our favorite at-home wax kits for smooth, hair-free skin. Vogue's Favorite At-Home Wax Kits: In This Story: Best Overall: Flamingo Women's Body Wax Kit Flamingo Body Wax Kit $17 AMAZON Why We Love It : If you're new to waxing, pre-waxed strips can be a total lifesaver, as they're much cleaner and easier to use. This kit from Flamingo includes 24 wax strips in both large and small sizes, along with post-wax cloths to help remove sticky residue and calm any irritation. The strips are fragrance-free and dye-free, making them less likely to irritate skin compared to traditional hot waxes. And since there's no heating required, there's no risk of burns—just warm the strips between your hands before applying. The more you use them, the easier it gets, but the process is pretty intuitive. Just be sure to pull in the opposite direction of hair growth. Each strip can typically be used for two pulls. Cosmetic dermatologic surgeon Dr. Howard Sobel approves. 'I like that this kit is dermatologist-tested and formulated without any fragrances,' he says. Waxers Are Sharing The Things They Really, Really Wish You Would Stop Doing Before Your Appointment

Getting a wax — whether on your eyebrows, legs or more sensitive areas — is far from comfortable. The pain is unavoidable and can even cause your eyes to tear up. The good news, though, is that there are steps you can take (or rather, avoid) before your appointment to make the process easier, shorter, more effective and less painful. Ahead, waxers share what they would wish clients would stop doing before their appointment for their own sakes — and it's not 'coming when you're on your period.' 1. Applying Heavy Oils And Numbing Creams If you like to put these on your skin, that's understandable. But unfortunately, they can complicate the process when you apply them on the day of your appointment. 'The more of a barrier you have on the skin, the more we must remove before waxing,' explained Deidra Green, a licensed esthetician and the VP of field performance and inclusion at European Wax Center. 'These heavy products can interfere with your results, and it's best to come to your appointment with clean skin.' Basically, what happens is the wax isn't able to get as good a grip on the hair, so your waxer will have to clean it off (keeping you on the table for longer). 2. Using Retinol Related: People Who Cut Off Their Trump-Supporting Friends And Family Members Are Sharing Their Stories, And It's Heartbreaking This ingredient is best avoided, but for a different reason than you may suspect. 'This can cause skin lifting and irritation,' explained Amber Budd Peterson, a licensed advanced practice esthetician in Minnesota with over 13 years of experience, and the founder of the Spa by Amber Budd Atelier. (Skin lifting is — brace yourself — when skin comes up with the wax and leaves a red mark.) She added that at her spa, if someone is using retinol, the waxers only tweeze — which 'doesn't allow for the cleanest lines and shape.' If you need to use retinol for acne or wrinkles, she recommended stopping its use at least seven days before your facial wax and letting your waxer know so they can provide a safer experience. 3. Exfoliating Too Close To Your Wax It's best to avoid exfoliation, too, at least for the two days before your wax, said Jennifer Guest, a licensed esthetician with nearly 26 years of experience at the Newport Beach and Rancho Santa Margarita luxury day spa called Spa Gregorie's. 'Recently exfoliated skin can be more sensitive and prone to irritation,' she explained. Exfoliation altogether isn't a complete no-no, however. 'A lack of exfoliation means that ingrown hairs are more likely, and the waxer may have to go over the area multiple times to remove the hair (if using hard wax or sugar),' said Hadiyah Daché, a master esthetician and expert in waxing and sugaring who owns Glowdega in Oakland, California. She encouraged using an exfoliating product three times a week, plus hydrating the area daily with unscented aloe vera gel. (But again, not within a couple days of your appointment.) 4. Shaving, Trimming Or Tweezing Related: 21 "Fatal" Safety Mistakes People Make Every Day (And How To Avoid Them), According To First Responders While it may seem like you're helping your waxer out, or while you may be tempted to do this in between appointments as hairs come in, it's not the solution you might think it is. 'To get the smoothest wax possible, your hair needs to be at least the length of a grain of rice,' Green said, warning that too-short hairs could get left behind. 'Don't be embarrassed if it's longer than that, though!' Guest agreed that trimming can particularly 'interfere with optimal results,' especially with your eyebrows, because 'over-trimming can be difficult to correct.' Besides leading to a lesser wax — and one that requires a quicker follow-up appointment — you also risk ingrown hairs, according to Daché. Ingrown hairs are raised, painful bumps on the skin. 5. Wearing Thongs, Leggings, Or Clothing That's Tight In That Area Sure, athleisure and a thong are a quick way to feel both cute and comfortable, but they can cause problems post-wax. 'This creates chafing and can cause hyperpigmentation in the bikini area,' Daché said. 'The irritation can also lead to complications as the result of a wax.' Instead, she encouraged wearing the opposite: loose clothing and boxer brief-style underwear. 6. Working Out Or Hitting The Sauna Beforehand A self-care day may not feel complete without a Pilates or sauna session, but don't schedule it before your wax. 'Coming in right after a workout or sauna session can increase sensitivity and make it harder to keep the skin dry during waxing,' Guest said. 'For best results, arrive clean, cool and dry.' 7. Drinking Too Much Alcohol The Day Of Or The Night Before Alcohol doesn't only lead to extra anxiety the next day — it can also cause waxing-related problems. 'This can lead to more potential for bruising, sensitivity and even potential bleeding,' Peterson said. It also just generally makes your skin look worse. Mocktails are a better choice, she continued, or if you're going to drink alcohol, avoid it 24 hours before your appointment for best results. While these tips aren't necessarily the most fun, they will provide a longer-lasting, smoother wax — which is worth it, right? This article originally appeared on HuffPost.
