Suspended Tory MP denies sexually assaulting two women at London club
An MP faces trial over allegations he groped two women in one night while drunk at the Groucho private members' club in London. Patrick Spencer, the MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault at Westminster magistrates court on Monday morning. He was told the magistrate could deal with the case, but exercised his right to be tried by a jury in the crown court instead. The prosecutor, Polly Dyer, told the court Spencer was accused of touching the breasts of two women without their consent on 12 August 2023. She said the prosecution's case was that Spencer made an initial approach to one of the complainants that made her feel uncomfortable at about 8pm that evening. It was alleged he appeared intoxicated and insisted on buying her a drink, to the extent that she felt forced, and asked about her marriage. About four hours later on the same night, the prosecutor alleged, Spencer walked up behind the woman, put his arms beneath hers, and cupped her breasts over her clothing. The chief magistrate, Paul Goldspring, heard the woman was taken by surprise, that she did not know why he had done it, and had not consented. The court heard the prosecution's claim that the second complainant had given a similar account relating to the same night. It was alleged Spencer insisted she try a drink. In the hope it would make him relent without her having to be rude, the prosecutor said the second complainant took a sip. But Spencer put his arms around her, cupping her breasts, the court heard. The complainant removed his hands and the prosecution told the court she had not consented. Spencer became a Conservative MP in the general election the year after the incidents are alleged to have occurred. The Conservative party said he had been suspended and that the whip had been withdrawn with immediate effect. Spencer, who wore a suit and glasses as he sat in the dock, rose to enter his not guilty pleas. He opted for a trial before a jury and was bailed to attend Southwark crown court on 14 July.

Tulsa man convicted of groping woman on Southwest Airlines flight to Dallas
A 65-year-old Oklahoma man has been convicted in federal court of groping a woman onboard a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Dallas two years ago, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in North Texas. William R. McKelvy, of Tulsa, was found guilty of abusive sexual contact after a brief jury trial June 4, federal prosecutors said in a news release. McKelvy was onboard a Southwest flight to Dallas Love Field in April 2023 when he groped the breast and inner thigh of the woman in the seat next to him four times, according to the release. In the first instance, the woman thought McKelvy had made inadvertent contact with her and did not say anything. When McKelvy tried again minutes later, she pushed him away forcefully and told him to keep his hands to himself, federal authorities said. McKelvy touched the woman again a third and fourth time, at which point the victim yelled, 'Get your (expletive) hand off me, or I will break your (expletive) hand,' according to the statement. Other passengers intervened to flag down a flight attendant and tell McKelvy to stop his behavior, according to the statement. Attendants moved McKelvy to the back of the plane and arranged for police to meet him at Love Field Airport. 🚨 More top stories from our newsroom: → Widow of Arlington firefighter who died in Cancun seeks $35M at trial → Christmas-themed restaurant Campo Verde reopens → Teen arrested in stabbing death of his father [Get our breaking news alerts.] When McKelvy met with officers, he told police that he had vaped on the plane and 'flirted with this chick,' federal authorities said. Tulsa man convicted of repeatedly groping woman on Southwest flight to Dallas, prosecutors say
An Oklahoma man who repeatedly inappropriately touched a female passenger on a Southwest Airlines flight to Dallas in April 2023 has been convicted of abusive sexual contact, federal prosecutors said Friday. William R. McKelvy, 65, of Tulsa, faces up to three years in federal prison when he appears for sentencing Sept. 8 before Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey. Repeated groping during flight from Tulsa Screenshot of William R. McKelvy, 65, of Tulsa, from an officer's body-worn camera footage admitted as evidence. U.S. Attorneys Office for the Northern District of Texas According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas, McKelvy groped a woman's breast and inner thigh on four separate occasions during the flight from Tulsa to Dallas. While the woman initially believed the contact might have been accidental, she later pushed McKelvy away and warned him to stop. After a fourth incident, she yelled at him, drawing the attention of nearby passengers, prosecutors said. "Get your ******* hand off me, or I will break your ******* hand!" she testified. Passengers and crew intervene Prosecutors said fellow passengers intervened, telling McKelvy to stop and change seats, before a flight attendant moved him to the back of the plane. Police met the flight at Dallas Love Field. When questioned by officers, McKelvy admitted to vaping on the plane and downplayed the incident, saying he had "flirted with this chick." Defendant claims memory loss Testifying during the trial, McKelvy claimed he couldn't remember the incident because he had consumed alcohol and marijuana gummies. The jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before returning a guilty verdict. Prosecutors praise victim and bystanders "No person should have to endure egregious attacks such as this aboard an aircraft, where appropriate behavior is crucial for the well-being of all passengers," Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson said in a news release. "We applaud the swift response of fellow passengers, crew members, and our law enforcement partners in this case to come to the victim's defense. "For her sake and the community's, we will continue to bring predators like this to justice and deter others from doing so." Investigation led by FBI and Dallas police The FBI and Dallas Police Department conducted the investigation.
