Singer Chris Brown pleads not guilty
LONDON: Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge related to the serious beating of a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023. Brown, 36, wearing a blue suit, white shirt and black-rimmed glasses, was arraigned in London's Southwark Crown Court on one count of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent. Brown's friend and fellow musician Omololu Akinlolu, 39, who performs under the name 'Hoody Baby,' pleaded not guilty to the same charge. Prosecutors previously said Brown and Akinlolu assaulted producer Abe Diaw at a bar in the Tape nightclub in the swanky Mayfair neighborhood in February 2023. Brown allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Diaw and hit him several times with a bottle and then punched and kicked him. The attack was caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people, prosecutors said. Brown was originally charged with a single count of grievous bodily harm after his arrest in May, but prosecutors subsequently brought an indictment adding two counts: assault causing actual bodily harm and having an offensive weapon, a bottle. When a court clerk asked Brown how he pleaded to the grievous bodily harm count, he replied: 'Not guilty ma'am.' Brown did not enter pleas on the additional counts and was ordered to return to court July 11 to face those charges after wrapping up the European leg of his world tour. His trial was scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026. The singer of 'Go Crazy,' 'Run It,' and 'Kiss Kiss' was released last month on a 5 million-pound ($6.75 million) bail, which allowed him to start his 'Breezy Bowl XX' tour earlier this month. Following his release after almost a week in jail, Brown posted on Instagram: 'FROM THE CAGE TO THE STAGE!!! BREEZYBOWL.' Brown, who quickly rose to stardom as a teen in 2005, won his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 for 'F.A.M.E.' and then earned his second in the same category for '11:11 (Deluxe)' earlier this year.

During a hearing last month, Manchester Magistrates' Court was told that Diaw had been standing at the bar inside Tape nightclub when he was struck several times with a bottle. The alleged attack continued in another part of the venue, where he was reportedly punched and kicked repeatedly. Brown, often called by his nickname Breezy, was arrested at Manchester's Lowry Hotel at 2 a.m. on May 15 this year by detectives from the Metropolitan Police. He was then released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford, Greater Manchester, on May 21. Under the terms of his bail, Brown was required to pay £4 million ($5.4 million) with a further £1 million due in seven days. The sum served as a financial guarantee to secure his return to court and may be forfeited if he breaches any of the conditions of his release. A date for a five- to seven-day trial has been set for October next year.

Protesters attacked outside Iranian Embassy
Police have arrested six men after protesters were attacked outside the Iranian Embassy in London. Two men have been treated for injuries at the scene and have been taken to hospital, the Metropolitan Police said. The attack comes amid the ongoing Israel-Iran war. Donald Trump, the US president, said that he would decide in the next fortnight whether or not his country would intervene in the conflict. The Iranian flag and posters are in the background outside the embassy, where an earlier protest took place. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'At 09:53hrs on Friday, 20 June, officers responded to reports of an altercation in Prince's Gate, SW1. 'Six men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm – they remain in police custody. 'Two men were treated for injuries at the scene and have been taken to hospital for further treatment by the London Ambulance Service. 'Police have cordoned off the area while initial investigations take place.'

Police have arrested six men after two pro-Palestine protesters were attacked in a major incident outside the Iranian Embassy this morning. Detectives have launched an urgent probe after the two men were set upon outside the embassy, which is opposite Hyde Park in west London. Officers and paramedics swooped on Princes Gate, scrambling to detain suspects and treat the casualties. It comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Iran and Israel locked in a brutal conflict that has escalated over the last week. The two victims were treated for injuries at the scene and have been taken to hospital. Dramatic pictures from the scene show the protesters being treated by paramedics on stretchers and receiving oxygen, while the alleged attackers were seen being hauled away in handcuffs. Police said six men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and are being quizzed in custody. A spokesman for the Met Police said: 'At 09:53hrs on Friday, 20 June officers responded to reports of an altercation in Princes Gate, SW1. 'Six men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm – they remain in police custody. 'Two men were treated for injuries at the scene and have been taken to hospital for further treatment by the London Ambulance Service. 'Police have cordoned off the area while initial investigations take place.' A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We were called at 9.56am today (20 June) to reports of an assault in Princes Gate, SW7. 'We sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars and our Tactical Response Unit. 'We treated two patients at the scene and took one to hospital and one to a major trauma centre.'
