Ukraine harvests first 34,800 tons of new grain crop, ministry says
KYIV: Ukraine's farmers have started the 2025 grain harvest, threshing the first 34,800 metric tons of early grains as of June 19, the farm ministry said on Friday. Ukraine traditionally starts the harvest in the second part of June with barley and peas. Farmers had harvested 33,900 tons of barley with the average yield of 2.49 metric tons per hectare, the ministry said in a statement. Ukrainian agriculture minister Vitaliy Koval said on Thursday three southern regions, Odesa, Kherson and Mykolaiv, had started the grain harvest. Koval told Reuters this month that poor weather can cut Ukrainian grain harvest by 10 percent this year to around 51 million tons.

Drought-hit Russian grain region Rostov declares state of emergency
MOSCOW, June 10 (Reuters) - Russia's largest grain producing region, Rostov, has declared a state of agricultural emergency in some drought-hit areas, the local governor said on Tuesday. The emergency regime, which enables farmers to seek compensation for losses, also serves as a signal for markets on prospects for this year's harvest. "This year farmers have to work under extremely unfavourable weather conditions. Today we are introducing a state of emergency in some districts of the region due to drought," governor Yuri Slyusar wrote on Telegram. The region had also been hit by spring frosts, though they were less severe than last year, when the Rostov grain harvest fell by more than a fifth owing to adverse weather events. Harvesting in the region is due to start in the second half of June. This year's grain harvest in Russia, the world's largest wheat exporter, is projected to reach 135 million metric tons, up from last year's 130 million tons, Deputy Prime Minister for Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev said earlier on Tuesday.

Tunisian Minister Expects Grain Harvest Rising 64% to 1.8 million Metric Tons this Season
Tunisia's grain harvest to rise to 1.8 million metric tons this season, Agriculture Minister Ezzedine Ben Cheikh said on Wednesday, up more than 64% from last year's harvest, marking the country's strong season in five years after consecutive drought seasons. The sharp increase is attributed to improved rainfall in key agricultural regions, Reuters reported. "It is a good season with about 1.8 million metric tons,' Ben Cheikh said. Last year's grain crop was around 1.1 million metric tons. The country, which is suffering a deep financial crisis, was badly affected by the rise in global wheat prices and successive dry seasons. The anticipated production growth will enable Tunisia to reduce its imports of grain. Over the last decade, Tunisia has averaged about 1.5 million metric tons in annual grain harvests, while it has consumed around 3.4 million metric tons per year.
