Here's What Parents Should Actually Buy For Summer
A 36-piece set of sidewalk chalk, including 12 tie dye, 12 glitter, and 12 neon styles, so your kids can get their angst out by (legally) tagging your entire patio. There's nothing more gratifying than graffiti if it gets your kids outside for an hour. A set of limited-edition wildflower Band-Aids because summer is the season of scraped knees, and a fun floral Band-Aid provides the quickest pain relief. That's science. I swear. A KitchenAid shaved ice attachment (you read that right!!) for giving your KitchenAid a new job when it's way too hot to be baking. Snow cone season is officially in full swing! An all-terrain stroller so lightweight and compact that it can fit in the overhead bin on a plane. When your kid has been on a flight for hours, waiting for a stroller to be retrieved from storage after you deplane may feel like a millennium. Plus, this stroller can conquer all the cobblestone streets or rocky gravel paths your vacation may take you through! Waldorf woodland creatures — each open-ended shape is designed with holes that'll easily fit different twigs, stems, petals, and leaves you find while on nature walks. If you wanna spend more time outside but need a *purpose* to get yourself on a walk, creating tiny woodland creatures may be just the thing! A mud kitchen for little chefs who would happily spend *hours* preparing literal mud pies for those lucky enough to spend time at their exclusive restaurant. A portable, bladeless stroller fan that has three speeds — this can attach to more than just a stroller, which is great if you find yourself needing to share the fan with your mini-me when your breezy beach vacation seems to be a little light on the breeze. A BabyBjorn Travel Crib small enough when collapsed that it'll fit in a carry-on bag! This is a great option if you're traveling with an infant who would *love* crawling into every nook and cranny of your hotel room. Parents rave about how easy it is to set up and put away, making bedtime easier even on the go. And an inflatable travel bed (with a high-speed pump) for your toddlers and kiddos who have grown out of their pack-n-play phase. Honestly, this is more for you than your child. There's no way you'll get a good night's rest sharing a bed with your youngster. They sleep punch. A hands-free, bladeless, portable neck fan that'll treat you to fans on either side of your neck, pointing up at your face with a gentle breeze that'll feel positively heaven-sent on sunny days. This has five different speeds to choose from, so you know you'll be comfortable no matter how long you're stuck saving a spot for your family before the fourth of July parade. A pack of SPF-sensing stickers so you can blame the sticker when you tell your kids they've gotta stop playing and re-apply. And a refillable roll-on sponge sunscreen applicator sure to make putting on sunscreen (both on your kids *and* on yourself) less of a chore. This goes on fast and blends in easily — no mess required! A Yeti backpack cooler — an investment-worthy piece that'll be *far* easier to carry long distances than a traditional cooler. Keeping yourself hydrated (or full of spiked seltzer) might be the only way to keep yourself out in the sun on your next family vacation. A pack of children's Dramamine you should definitely hand out as a precaution before getting in the car this summer if your kids get motion sick easily. When I was a child, my parents referred to our car as the "vomit comet." Don't let your kids christen your car with a similar nickname. A flexible, adjustable mister that'll help you keep your cool when some fresh air would do you good, but the heat makes you hide inside. It'll cool the surrounding area by up to 20 degrees, so it doesn't have to be *sweltering* while you enjoy some sun. A sea turtle Hugaround — a weighted doll designed with heavy flippers so it can "hug" and cling to your kiddo, even staying on them while walking around! This sweet pal is both microwavable and freezable, so if your kid is sick of hot weather, you can toss it in the freezer and help them chill out! If summer travel means your babe is sleeping in places they aren't used to, having this extra cozy pal around may be just the thing they need! A stick-on shade to block the sun's bright rays and *hopefully* make nap time easier in the backseat. A road trip sans temper tantrums is about as comfortable as things get. A pack of spill-proof Munchkin snack catchers so your toddler can have all their snacks at once, without turning the backseat into a sandbox full of crushed-up fish crackers. A travel brush with a hidden compartment sure to be the family travel hack you didn't know you needed. The back of this brush has room for the hair accessories you know will get lost or forgotten because they're so darn tiny. Pack a brush for each child with their own necessities stored inside, and you're all set! Everyone is going to look *great* in the family photos. A Lugabug travel seat — this game-changing "chair" can attach to a carry-on suitcase so your tiny toddler isn't dragging their feet past every Cinnabon in the airport on the way to your gate. There are... so many Cinnabons. A pair of GeoSafari Jr. binoculars your observant, pint-sized bird watcher is sure to adore. A car baby monitor (with a spiffy 14,000+ 5-star reviews!) that'll help you instantly know what's going on with your baby in the backseat without adjusting mirrors or turning back to see what's going on (when the car is stopped, of course). Stay safe on the road with your little one, and keep them *easily* within sight! A clip-on umbrella with UPF 50 protection and *swivel* abilities, so you can turn any chair into a shady spot while out and about. Reviewers have also used this with wagons, strollers, wheelchairs, and electric scooters! A hip seat sling that'll feel much cooler than having your child against your chest like in traditional carriers. If your kid cries as if the floor is lava when you try getting them to walk on their own, this side sling is a brilliant way to carry them on a hot day. A mosquito repellent sure to save you from being *bugged* by mosquitoes while lounging around on your patio. This creates a 15-foot personal bug-free bubble to have you feeling FREE from those dang pests. A lightweight, fast-drying towel — this repels sand instead of attracting it like most beach towels do, so you won't get covered in sand while lounging on the beach! PLUS it's ultra absorbent, so you'll dry off fast after a plunge in the water. Grab one of these and you can make a day at the beach finally feel like, well, a day at the beach! A portable lock box to keep your necessities secure when you're napping in the sand. It's designed to attach around two beach chairs, so you won't have a nagging worry about your wallet/phone getting stolen while trying to relax. A bubble toy lawn mower that'll be a hit with your kiddo if they love working in the yard right alongside you. Watch them bubble up inside with excitement as this little gadget blows actual bubbles all over the yard! Ugh. I wish mine did that. A Coola scalp and hair sunscreen mist with SPF 30 so you don't get dandruff and dry skin peeling from a sunburned hair part. Not only will it help prevent sunburns, but it's also formulated to protect your hair from sun damage. Use this as the finishing touch on your daily haircare and you're gonna be g2g! Great. A Cruiser City from Veer that'll make packing up and heading out the door on summer days SO much easier. There's room for an entire day's worth of necessities in this wagon — so no need to be carrying heavy coolers or giant beach bags while *also* strolling your kid through the sand! This is designed with swivel wheels furthest from the handle, meaning you can push it like a stroller while still getting all the benefits of a ride-on wagon! This is a truly game-changing way to explore the world with your kids. Plus, it has cup holders. A budget-friendly 3-in-1 sprinkler, splash pad, and wading pool decorated with colors, letters, and numbers so learning isn't just an indoor activity. Plus, this thing looks so satisfying that on a hot day, you might just join in with your kids! Or Twister Splash for fun-loving families who are more than happy to slip, slide, and laugh their way through a super-sprinkler version of this classic game. A sand removal bag so you can "dust off" you and your kids before everyone gets into the car after a day at the beach. The bag is filled with a talc-free, reef-friendly powder that will ensure the sand stays outside, where it belongs. A four-pack of reusable water bomb balloons for families who would gladly have water balloon fights every day if their resources would magically replenish. Look at you, making summer magic happen. An anti-blister balm that'll keep you from feeling de-feet-ed by painful blisters that come from sweaty feet during the long walking tours you have planned during your summer vacation. A bag of protein coffee I am literally drinking as we speak (peep the picture below, I'm not lying!) for people who are *great* about drinking their morning coffee and terrible about getting in 1) breakfast and 2) enough protein. This stuff is going so viral, I'm surprised it's ever in stock. And it makes sense, because this is the 2-in-1 we've all been waiting for.

Laura hopes Lucky is happy here but wants them to figure out what's right for them. Alexis has a meeting with Lucky and Kristina to discuss the night her daughter tried to kill Ava. She says if the police investigate, Kristina will go to prison, and she wants all the details. Kristina explains about being at the scene and while she was in the background, Lucky points out the police's body cam might show her there. Kristina says she told Dante that she saw the smashed up car. Lucky says the only thing incriminating Kristina is the car and thought she was in the clear when the mechanic told him the car was gone. Kristina asks if Alexis can see a way out of this. Alexis says the problem is the car since there is proof that the brake lines were cut and Ava and Ric have the upper hand. Alexis thinks maybe she can get them to turn on each other and warns Kristina to stop being impulsive. Carly tells Curtis that the custody hearing is starting today (is it June 2nd already?!!) and would like Curtis' help. Carly says Drillow are accusing Michael of abandonment (and asks him to have Aurora remind the public that Drew is a con artist which might sway the jury in Michael's favour. Curtis says he can't do it because it could backfire. He says Michael is the majority shareholder and Drew could end up looking like a victim. Curtis says he's working on something else. Curtis tells Portia that he can't help Carly because of Drew's blackmail over her. Portia tells him about Jacinda but doesn't think Drew can track her down. She questions why Tracy was arrested for drugging Drew and Curtis figures he planted the ketamine. Portia says there is no evidence of her involvement, because the ketamine would get traced to Brad. Curtis says they need to find Jacinda. Michael asks Sasha if the kids can stay with her during the hearing but Sasha says Ric called her as a witness. He wonders if Ric knows about the paternity, but Sasha doesn't think so. Sasha wonders if she'd told Michael about the fourth of July kiss, if he could have worked it out with Willow and not gotten to this point. Michael says he was desperate to make Willow happy and never got to know the real her. Nina tells Ava that she got information that would help Willow get full custody but doesn't want to use it. Nina tells her about figuring out that Michael is Sasha's baby daddy and Ava wonders why Nina hasn't told Willow. Nina says she loves Sasha and exposing her baby daddy would be a betrayal. Nina also believes that if Willow gets full custody, she'll never leave Drew. She says Drew wants to bring the kids and Willow to DC and she'll lose them. Nina thinks it's better off if Willow doesn't get full custody. Ava tells her to do what she can live with. Emma wakes up alone and worries that Gio ditched her, but he returns and tells her that she's the only one that he trusts. He's upset about all the phone messages he's been getting from everyone and doesn't believe everyone's concern. He says knowing he's related to all of them doesn't change things and that he doesn't want fake relationships with anyone. Gio wonders if Sonny knew the truth since he's friends with Lois and it would explain him paying for his musical education. Gio mentions Camilla, but Emma says she loved him as his mother. She says Camilla taking him at her lowest point gave her a reason to keep on going. He agrees that Camilla was his mother, but Brook Lynn is the one who gave him away. Emma asks where they're going now, but Gio says he needs answers and that they need to go back. Lois overhears Brook Lynn on the phone with Anna then asks whether Gio and Emma are together. Brook Lynn tells her that she doesn't have the right to ask. Lois just wants to know if Gio is okay, but Brook Lynn says he took off with Emma. When Lois asks about tracking Gio's phone, Brook Lynn gets angry and says Gio needs space. Brook Lynn accuses Lois of betraying her trust, but Lois says she did what she thought was best. Lois says Camella just wanted to raise Gio and Lois found a good family for him. Brook Lynn says she asked for a closed adoption and instead grew up living down the street from Gio and interacting with him. Lois says she didn't want to send the baby away and could keep an eye on him. Brook Lynn says she was an adult when Camilla died but Lois says she couldn't add to Gio's grief by telling him then. Lois says she gave Brook Lynn her freedom which was the right thing to do. She says Brook Lynn would be a different person now had she been told about Gio after Camilla died. Brook Lynn is angry Lois made the decisions and can't help Gio through this because he doesn't trust her. Brook Lynn says Gio doesn't want anything to do with her, and she doesn't want anything to do with Lois, as Gloria shows up and chastises her. Laura tells Alexis she was looking over Ace's trust and there seems to be money missing. Lucky tells Liz he knows more about her car accident that he let on. Ric asks Nina if she's ready to testify as to what she saw when everyone found out about Drew and Willow's affair. He asks if she has something else to add. The Dama Reminds Negan Who's Boss and Bombs Fly: ‘TWD: Dead City' Season 2, Episode 2 Recap
Maggie Rhee warned the New Babylon Federation about the true danger of The Croat and Negan Smith was forced to learn 'another s--tty lesson' at the hands of The Dama in the second episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2. Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) and other recruits for the New Babylon Federation armed forces arrived at a dock where there was a small boat waiting for them. Governor Byrd (Jasmin Walker), Colonel Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), Benjamin Pierce (Keir Gilchrist) and Major Lucia Narvaez (Dascha Polanco) gathered in a tent to discuss the plans for their 'exploratory mission' to Manhattan. Startled by the sight of the ferry, Maggie rushed in to confront them, but she was quickly sent away by Lucia. Perlie followed her outside, where she argued against the idea of crossing the bay. 'Croat is gonna see us coming from miles away,' Maggie told him. 'He already knows you're coming, thanks to you. You told him who you were, right? Where you came from? He's probably been prepping for an invasion since the second that you escaped. He's smart and paranoid. He may not know how or when, but trust me, he knows that you're coming.' Negan's former prison guard, Victor (Logan Schmucker) found him sitting in his old cell. He started to play his violin and told him about how his father had forced him to learn the instrument as a kid – but none of the music resonated with him until he discovered Bach. "So, even when my dad was being a tyrannical f--king a--hole. I always had Bach,' he said. 'If I could just focus on Bach, then maybe, I could get through another s--tty lesson.' Later, Negan and The Croat (Željko Ivanek) met with The Dama (Lisa Emery) to discuss their plan to fight the New Babylon Federation. While The Croat seemed confident, The Dama pointed out that Christos (Jake Weary) and Bruegel's (Kim Coates) groups hadn't given them an official answer yet on if they would join them. 'Look, I think it's a solid plan … but it certainly isn't a death blow," Negan told her. "Like you said though, just the first wave. So, we just crank it up. We give them a fourth of July laser lights style spectacular. And not just for the ship, for their people back home … and for the folks that are on our side. You know, these gangs are having trouble making up their minds? … Let's just erase any lingering doubts, shall we?' Maggie discovered a smoke signal made from a pile of burning tires. As she went in for a closer look, Hershel Rhee (Logan Kim) came out and confessed that he'd taken a horse and tracked them down because he'd been worried about her. As Hershel asked her if the tires were a message meant for The Croat, New Babylon Federation soldiers surrounded them and took them to Lucia, who accused Maggie of desertion. Perlie said she was 'only following orders' to get proof The Croat knew they were coming. Frustrated that the smoke signal meant The Croat already knew their plans, Maggie said she was leaving with Hershel and going back home to The Bricks. Lucia threatened to have her and Hershel hanged — to which Maggie responded in true Maggie form by punching her squarely in the face. As they crafted bombs and other weapons in preparation for the attack, The Croat attempted to coax out the old cruel side of Negan that he knew back with The Saviors. "Come on, Negan ... Why so glum?" he asked. "In the old days back at the Sanctuary, you used to relish the chance to take down anyone who crossed us.' The Croat told Victor a story about how Negan once outsmarted a rival faction of survivors who had demanded their provisions by inviting them to a huge feast in their honor. Negan cracked a few smiles and even joined in on the conversation when he revealed that he had the butchers switch out the venison for Walker meat. "Let's just say, by dawn, the Sanctuary's Walker moats had grown considerably," The Croat said. "My point is you protected us. And you gave our enemies exactly what they deserved." Back at the bay, Perlie visited Maggie where she was tied up in the shaft alley of one of the boats. He said that he didn't agree with what Lucia had said and done, but that he didn't have any say in the matter because she'd hit a Major. When Maggie argued that they needed to cancel the mission immediately, Perlie wouldn't back down on his loyalty to their cause. 'You have got this blind spot, all of you. You can't see it, but you're so obsessed with getting back what you lost that you overlook anything that gets in your way,' Maggie told him firmly. 'You underestimate me, fine, but do not underestimate The Croat. You know what he's capable of. Let us go. Let us all go.' Perlie left the room. Just as planned, the New Babylon Federation was caught in the Burazi's surprise attack of homemade bombs exploding around them in the bay. Meanwhile, Ginny freed both Maggie and Hershel from the shaft alley and they ran to the upper deck to search for a means of escape. As Negan continued to lead the attack on the boats, he appeared to begin to enjoy himself, but his demeanor shifted after spotting Hershel climbing into a life raft through his binoculars. Upset, he told the man next to him to wait to send another bomb in their direction. Once he confirmed that Hershel was a safe distance away, he allowed the attack to continue. The Croat caught the interaction and gave Negan a dark, suspicious look. The Dama congratulated both The Croat and Negan on their success, and it was revealed that Benjamin was captured in the aftermath of the attack. Just as swiftly as she doled out her compliments, The Dama's mood changed and she questioned Negan on who he'd been 'trying to spare' last night, implying that The Croat had told her what he'd witnessed. Suddenly, Victor came into the room and The Dama instructed him to play her something on his violin. 'Take your time. It's not like your life depends on it,' she told him. He started to play a Bach piece and Negan became more and more agitated as the song continued. At one point, he leapt up and admitted that he'd stalled the attack because he saw 'a random kid who didn't deserve to die.' When the song was over, The Dama praised Victor's performance before pointing out that Bach was the best of his time, but only 'perfected' what everyone else had already done. 'Instead of taking us forward, he took us back. I am not interested in going back,' she said, then cut Victor's throat as Negan cried out in anguish. Leaving Victor's body, she approached The Croat and whispered into his scarred ear that he'd done 'very, very good.' Maggie, Ginny, Hershel, Lucia, Perlie and others arrived in Manhattan on life rafts following the attack. The following day, they heard a truck in the distance as they rested against a brick wall. Maggie warned them it was the Burazi and suggested they should hide at an overgrown park until sunset. 'She's right.' Perlie said. 'She's been right this whole time.' Hershel and Maggie had a heart-to-heart as the teenager apologized for his recent behavior toward her. He admitted he'd been 'freaked out' and he was 'glad' that she was OK. Ginny watched them as they embraced, then she dug into her bag and brushed her fingers across the grip of Lucia's gun.

City Council urges Congress to reject Medicaid cuts, approves fireworks
EAU CLAIRE — The Eau Claire City Council passed a unanimous resolution urging Congress 'to protect essential programs by rejecting dramatic cuts to Medicaid' and other programs while also passing a resolution to accept a donation of fourth of July fireworks from Festival Foods Tuesday evening. The resolution protecting Medicaid passed with all those present voting in the affirmative while the fireworks resolution had one member vote against the resolution. City Council Member Andrew Werthmann proposed the Medicaid resolution along with Council Member Roderick Jones. 'We were inspired by the news of the county passing a similar resolution a few weeks ago,' Werthmann said. He said the other instigator was the passage of the budget reconciliation bill proposing at least $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid and related programs in February along with concerned constituents writing him. '[They] are deeply concerned about what this could mean for them and wanted the city to have a role in speaking up,' he said. 'This is not a good thing for our city and our county where we're a place that has a high quality of life,' said City Council Member Clara Serrano. 'This will definitely impact our quality of life to have more sick people who can't get healthcare.' Various council members expressed concerns Tuesday of a snowball effect touching on not only how this negatively affects individuals but the financial wellbeing of institutions like hospitals and nursing homes. It was expressed that a loss of Medicaid could further reduce access to mental healthcare and tip vulnerable individuals over the edge to poverty and homelessness. 'We're at a very precarious place with people just on the edge of homelessness,' Serrano said. 'There are so many more that are just hanging on by a thread. Cuts to food aid and Medicaid—I'm very concerned that it will cause us to have a big spike of people who no longer can afford to stay in their homes.' 'These are the kinds of things that have a downstream impact,' Werthmann said. 'Not everyone can make it in our economy. Maybe you're recently out of a job. We've heard some stories of people who have special needs, families who depend on these things.' 'These programs are used by a lot of people in our region and they contribute to the well-being of people throughout our community,' said City Council Member Joshua Miller. 'We saw it as very important to speak up from a local level.' 'When lifelines are cut, then our local community ends up having to pick up the pieces,' Werthmann said. 'We were already stretching our budget.' 'We're really limited in the kind of way that we can raise revenue,' Serrano said. 'And those federal programs, our residents are already paying into. If we have to do some kind of financial gymnastics to be able to make up for this short fall, the city is very limited.' The resolution to accept a donation from Festival Foods for Fourth of July fireworks for the next three years passed 9 to 1. Werthmann said that he tried to get Festival Foods to compromise to pay for some of the city's extra expenses and with accommodations for quieter or a smaller fireworks display. 'I thought it was reasonable to ask for a compromise,' he said. 'They said they weren't interested, so in the end, I decided to vote no.' Two city council members — Council President Emily Berge and Larry Mboga — attended the meeting virtually as they were attending the National League of Cities Convention in Washington D.C.
