Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson issues lengthy public apology - 'I let you down'
Nicolas Jackson's position at Chelsea is under threat from Liam Delap, and his response to losing his place to the £30m new boy on his birthday was a shocker Nicolas Jackson has issued a public apology after his red card in the FIFA Club World Cup. Chelsea hothead Jackson got his marching orders on his 24th BIRTHDAY just FOUR MINUTES after coming on as a substitute for a shocking X-rated challenge. Jackson entered the field with the score 1-1 in Chelsea's second game of the tournament, against Brazilian side Flamengo. By the time he left the field they were 2-1 down, before going on to lose 3-1 to the side coached by ex-Blues left-back Filipe Luis. After the match, Jackson wrote on instagram: 'I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card... and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. 'I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. 'No excuses. I take full responsibility. 'I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry.' It compounded six minutes of second half madness for Chelsea as Flamengo turned the game on its head and went from 1-0 down to 2-1 up before Jackson got sent off. There was no excuse for his appalling studs-up challenge on Flamengo's Ayrton Lucas which in this competition gets an automatic one game ban which FIFA can review and upgrade. Frankly, they should throw the book at him and it is no wonder that Maresca signed Liam Delap because he cannot trust Jackson. Jackson has so much talent but his reckless temperament makes him a liability and suddenly, from winning their first game, the mood will change in the Chelsea camp. Defender Marc Cucurella revealed he apologised to the players in the dressing room post-game. The Spaniard said: "He's very sad. He tried to win the ball, had the bad luck that he kicked his leg and that's it. He's a young player with a lot of quality but maybe needs to improve a little bit in these things. 'But he has to learn. After the manager spoke, he said sorry, he didn't do it on purpose. He's a very important player for us, we will miss him in the next game but this is football.' Jon Obi Mikel, working for DAZN, was scathing in his assessment. He said: "Unbelievable, a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I don't know what was going through his head. Your team needs you and he does that!" "He did that at Newcastle in an important game. He got a red card. And now he's done this again. You can't keep making mistakes like this." Zinedine Zidane rejected Man Utd job despite being handed blank cheque
Zinedine Zidane turned down blank cheques to join Manchester United and Chelsea as manager, according to his former France team-mate Marcel Desailly. Zidane has only ever managed Real Madrid at the first team level but remains often linked to some of the world's top jobs. The 1998 World Cup-winning midfielder won three Champions League titles in a row in his first spell with Los Blancos and won two La Liga titles across his two stints in the Bernabeu hotseat. Zidane resigned from his position in 2021 after failing to win a trophy - the first time Real Madrid had failed to do so in more than a decade - and has not managd since. And Desailly has suggested that Zidane has turned down lucrative proposals to return to football. Maintaining his current lifestyle and travelling remains important to the 52-year-old. Former Chelsea defender Desailly believes that Zidane will be the person to take over from Didier Deschamps for the French national team however. A move to the Saudi Pro League does not appear likely in the mind of the ex-Blues captain however. "Will Zinedine Zidane be tempted by Saudi Arabia? Well he had a blank cheque on the table from Chelsea and a blank cheque from Manchester United and turned them down – he isn't in it for the money," said Oddspedia. "I don't see why money will change anything, I know privately that he won't change his lifestyle. He likes to travel and always keeps an eye on the France national team. "He's ready because Didier Deschamps has started the transition. France will be one of the favourites for the World Cup and win or lose it's not the end of this era for France. "Since 2016, France have been growing and growing. New players have come into the team constantly and now they have the right players. Rayan Cherki is one of them alongside Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe is still there and on top of his game. "There is a real dynamic. William Saliba is in defence with Ibrahima Konate, Bayern have Dayot Upamecano. There is a squad and a philosophy and Zidane will know how to take that on to rebuild his own team. For another eight years at least France will be at the top level in Europe." With Zidane out of the picture, Desailly believes Manchester United should look to Luis Enrique to turnaround their fortunes. And despite Champions League success, he would not be surprised to see Enrique depart Paris Saint-Germain. " Football moves quickly and say that next season he makes too many mistakes, he might get into conflict with players like Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue as they grow and have a bigger say on the system," he said. "Soon they will be able to say no to the coach and his influence and because anything can happen, he might end up in the Premier League. "We are talking about something that didn't happen 20 years ago, but tactical coaching is now in the Premier League thanks to Claudio Ranieri and Jose Mourinho and so many other coaches. The Premier League has grown. "Luis Enrique would bring a new dynamic and if I was at Manchester United, I'd be asking Luis Enrqiue to come to my club. Arsenal confirm early Jorginho exit as Flamengo seal signing before Club World Cup

The former Chelsea midfielder was originally due to depart the Emirates Stadium when his current contract expires at the end of this month. However, Arsenal have now moved to mutually agree a slightly premature departure for Jorginho, allowing him to become a free agent and join Brazilian giants Flamengo in time for the inaugural expanded summer Club World Cup, which begins in the United States later this month. Advertisement The 33-year-old - who plays for Italy at international level but was born and raised in Brazil - has now promptly been unveiled as a Flamengo player, signing a three-year contract to play at the world-famous Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Jorginho will come up against former club Chelsea at the Club World Cup, with Flamengo - currently managed by ex-Blues full-back Filipe Luis - scheduled to play Enzo Maresca's Conference League winners in Philadelphia on June 20. First up is a meeting with Tunisian side Esperance de Tunis at Lincoln Financial Field on June 16, with Flamengo closing out Group D against play-off winners Los Angeles FC in Orlando on June 24. 'We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect to become a free agent,' Arsenal said in an official statement on Friday, before the player signed for Flamengo. 'He became a hugely respected member of the squad. His natural leadership skills, together with his control in midfield, intelligent positioning and extensive, high-quality passing, ensured that he was a valuable and integral part of the club.
